Beautiful!...... the du in the title 'Bist du bei mir' must be the capitalized 'Du' as it refers to Jesus Christ!.... as originally composed by Bach and the setting done by Stölzel although the original author of the text is unknown.

A good performance. There are what must be certain cuts to the Tristan score in this performance; either that or a couple quite awkward splices together (from more than one performance?). I had thought all Bayreuth performances had to be the uncut, complete music dramas.

this was introduced as the best recording of ninth in Internet. it seems so.

I had always wondered if Liszt could write some good songs. Now I know that he could write sublime music for the voice. He knew not to let the accompaniment get too flashy, but had it perfectly balance the voice.

This a piece after Shéhérazade and is very pensive nevertheless introvertedly passionate. It reminds me of Renoir's Paintings. His Opera L'heure espagnole from 1907 is much more of a typical Ravel piece including a frivolous wife who goes for a Mule Herder as her husband fixes the clocks out on the street.

The best. I love the tempo, the constant rhythm, the quality of Dame Janet's voice, which is just right, and her embellishments, and the choir, who sing more audibly and clearly than most.

Although my favourite rendition of this is by Christa Ludwig, Aafje is my 1st choice Bach contralto as she actually 'lives' in his cantatas

Really a 'Century' recording and performance of these 'lieder' gems. Christa Ludwig smashed them all in profoundness, voice clearness, and deep beauty of her singing and the orchestra playing conducted by the great pupil of Mahler and really Wagnerian conductor who was staying aside from mainstream Wagner Bayreuth Festival affairs because of his Jewish background, obviously. This is the way Wagner 'must be' performed.

This is superb. That first explosion of anger warns the listener that here is someone who has it all and is going to use it. Her marvelous variations of emotional expression and her clarity of text bring all of the conflicting feelings of this woman directly to us.
