I’m very much a blazer, not a cardigan, fan because the structure of a blazer is so much more flattering. I feel frumpy in cardigans, and the longer they are, the more short and stumpy I look (5”4”). I finally found the perfect summer blazer, a white linen jersey one from Poetry. I love it so much that I just ordered a duplicate, but everyone else loves it, too, it’s always on backorder. It’s the perfect, super-comfortable, lightly-structured coverup for summer when going into air conditioned spaces like restaurants or cinemas (it comes in some other colors, but, unfortunately, they’re not neutrals or basics). I also have several woven ones, from Quince and Banana Republic, with breathable linings, and I just got two great unlined linen/rayon striped ones from Caslon at Nordstrom. Now I have all the summer “third items” that I need for my summer dress, skirt and other separates outfits. No brand affiliations, just a regular shopper who likes to share when I find good items in breathable natural fibers, all I wear (I have plastics allergies and overheating).
I'm 69 and have been dressing the Coastal casual chic for several years and absolutely love it!! I really enjoyed seeing the outfits you created for this capsule. The tips for how to wear a scarf and how to tie a shirt at the waist were especially helpful. Thanks again, Kay!
Please show some elevated outfits for those of us who can't tuck in tees or blouses. No matter the tops I always look sloppy untucked. Thank you!
Tailoring works
@@carolalvarez3925 Not so much if you're trying to work with a "tummy".
I've got that tummy, too, and feel your pain.
With some outfits, belted tops work. I like doing it with tops that create a sort of peplum when belted. I like adding an A-line midi skirt.
You might like the shorter tees. They can come to your waist, or just below. Untucked they give you a line at your waist that “floats” at your waist.
I wear dresses or skirts outfits whenever I can, year-round. But, if I need to wear trousers or shorts in the summer, they’re always linen ones. Even cotton can be too hot for me on some high-summer days. I just moved my linen “capsule” onto my clothes rails and moved everything else out for the summer. It was just in time for our first killer summer heat wave here in the San Francisco Bay Area! Linen is essential for hot summer weather, even though it can be hot work to iron it. I really love linen jersey, in addition to woven linen, it’s super-comfortable and doesn’t need ironing. H&M always has a few items in this fabric and I was excited to find some nice linen jersey shirts at Banana Republic yesterday (called something like “Summer Resort Shirt?”). I ordered this in several of my basic colors. I think this collared style looks a lot more polished than a plain old crew-neck tee, and the collar and V-neck (open) are flattering and draw the eye to the face. There are more and more nice linen options offered every summer, happily. Thanks for another great video, Kay🙂
LOVE the style hacks...especially the last one! I could never get it to lie correctly!
I really enjoy your channel & have learned a lot from your videos. One style trend I do not get is the incomplete tuck of a shirt or top. It just doesn’t make sense to me & it doesn’t look right, chic, or classy in my opinion. Am I just old-fashioned?
The look you are talking about is ridiculous. I also can't stand ripped jeans😅
I don't like that look at all either. It looks sloppy and incomplete as you say.
I loved your style hack for tying a button down shirt. I never do it because it always just looks weird…it just doesn’t lay right. I’m going to try your trick…it is absolutely brilliant!!
Give it a try!😊
That shawl tip wow! I love how that looks and how functional. Thank you! Amazing video, you bring so much joy.... and I love your hair!
Thank you for being here!😊
That’s my absolute favorite style! I have been a grandma at the coast now for close to 10 years. Love linen, gauze and other natural fibers. Thanks Kay!
Can’t wait to try the tip on tying a button up!
I love how vibrant the plaid shirt looks with the red pants , but it calms down and it much softer with the white shorts and pants. Color is somuch fun!
I agree. I love bright colors during the summer!❤️
Thanks for defining what I’ve done with my wardrobe:capsules within😊 I have church, home, going places and work. And sometimes items are interchangeable and sometimes they aren’t. I’ve organized my closet space in categories to help with the time, and decisions. This made sense for me. But I hadn’t heard it defined or described Thanks
Thanks for sharing this great tip! Finding something that works for you is so important!
Makes a lot of sense.
I also can not tuck in. My weight sits all in the front. Skirts and dresses I do not wear at all. With 60 my legs do not support this anymore. I also would like some more videos where covering love handles is a topic.
I remember when my kids were little in the 1990's, my entire wardrobe was khaki, white and denim. The fabrics were a little different - but I'm so happy that's essentially this coastal style.
Question - I live in Florida, I'm 64, and all I can find about wardrobe capsules is the things people take on vacation. We don't wear cardigans or wraps, it's just too hot. We do wear a lot of natural fibers. When it comes to styling, we do accessories (bags, shoes, jewelry) but often it's more shorts, skorts, tanks and short sleeved tops that will keep you cool. So what are the coastal things we should have in a Florida / Caribbean / Hawaiian / general tropical, hot climate? How can those of us who live here take summer style for the midwest and north and translate it to tropical?
Love this aesthetic. ❤ And that tie hack at the end was worth the price of admission. Thanks, Kay!
Perfect timing on this video. I’m heading to beach next week. Thanks for sharing!
Great! Have a wonderful trip!😊
Love that shirt tie hack. Much simpler than others I have seen and it truly lies nice and flat. Thanks for the tip!
I am in! For this style look….so preppy yet elevated like you said Kay! I have done 2 of the 3 style hacks but the one I haven’t tried is the knot tie with the shirt that way. I am going to give that a try! Thank you and Welcome Home!
Great one today Kay. Love the variety of ideas.
Loved watching the video. I like the reminder of being intentional with pieces in wardrobe that they go with many things in wardrobe. And the style hacks are great. I will be trying the tie the shirt one. I added linen pants to my wardrobe this spring for first time. Love the ankle length and full length. Have already worn them. And the shorter length came on my Greece tour, a wonderful light weight material and I didn’t need to put on sunscreen!
I love Frank and Eileen brand for that casual chic vibe,
Absolutely!😊
Love these outfits. Going to wear my blue plaid blouse with white pants and navy sandals today!
Perfect!😊
Thanks for this great video, Kay. Such a joy to watch in my southeast Australian winter! Can’t wait to try these ideas out. 😊
Thanks for the hack on tying shirt bottoms.
I’m glad you like it!😊
Thank you for the ideas, especially that shirt tying idea at the end.
Thanks so much for including the style hack for tying a shirt! I’ve never been able to make that look right so I will definitely use that!!❤
Pulled the video up again and accomplished the shirt tie hack for my outfit today-thank you Kay!!
Love your style hack for tying a shirt in the front!
My vibe since birth Boston/Cape Cod native🇺🇲☺️
These are all my favorite summer looks..great job..keep them coming💙
Thank you!😊
Love your hair and makeup Kay!!
Hi Kay! I absolutely love your hair like this!
I really like this look. Might be too casual for me on some days, since my style is classic, elevated, and vibrant, but for some casual days it will be great! Cute belt fold on the style hack.
😊
Thank you for including the coastal casual booklet with suggestions for my wardrobe. I already have several pieces but find I always put the same pieces together and having other options is helpful. I love the costal casual look and appreciate all your ideas especially the last hack with the tie in front on a button top. I have some hats but don’t wear them often. I always felt they were too dressy for my outfit but I do see they can be worn with lacks as well. I appreciate all the thought and effort you put into your videos and blogs. ❤️🥰
Love the casual Easy breezey
look ❤
Your hair style looks great on you
Thanks for all the wonderful tips 😊
Great video, and I love the “hacks!”
I enjoy your channel. Do enjoy putting together my outfits with ideas you bring to us. Happy summer.
I love your videos. You are so full of information that I do not know. I appreciate it so much. Everyone thinks I dress so nicely and most of it is because I’m following your advice and your tips. Thank you.

I love this style aesthetic! Excellent outfits and tips!
Thank you!😊
I love these looks - especially that skirt!
😊
Thanks Kay. Blessings 😊
So great… the tips and ideas. I walk into my closet and begin putting coastal chic outfits together I did not even know I had! But I DO need the belt and all the hacks you shared. Thank you!
Great! Thanks for watching!😊
I love the coastal look - so classy and put together.
Thank you for all the useful information
And as always your hair looks amazing- the pulled back look is so youthful and fun!
Thanks!😊
Love your Roman Holiday skirt
Very nice summer hair style! ❤
Thank you!😊
Yay! This is my favorite style! So comfy and pretty and good for my real life! : )
Great!😊
This is definitely my vibe, loved the video.
Great!😊
I love all of your advice and ideas. Makes me try harder to pull it together💗
I'm so glad!
Great tie hack! Very classy outfits. Thanks❤
Thanks for being here!😊
This is the basis of my holiday capsule! 6 tops and 5 bottoms can make 30 outfits 😉
Thank you for all the wonderful ideas. If it weren't for you, I'd be in left field style wise.❤
Great tips 👌🏼 Thanks 😊
Thanks for watching!😊
Thanks for the style hacks
Absolutely!😊
Great video, Kay! I loved every single outfit, this is my style. I already own very similar items to most of these shown, in fact, my husband and I recently visited our local Farmer's Market and I carried my trusty canvas market bag to hold all the fruits, vegetables and gift items we found. Our home is decorated in a similar coastal vibe (we're beach people) with the same color palette as my wardrobe, just realized that, lol. Thanks for the information!
Aw Kay I love this video . 3 Style Hacks Fantastic🎉Ive now tried all 3 👌🏻My shirt tie looks so much neater , loving the belt looks so much nicer than it all going through my skirt loops and the shawl too , Ive always struggled with them but not now Thank you 👌🏻Im loving the Cognac accessories and even my husband noticed and said how much more Sophisticated they look even when Im dressed casual. Love this ‘Coastal Chic’ look and your description of the colours and yes to the splash of red , all your outfits look fab and Ive downloaded the ‘looks’ from the printable library ….I also really liked that you showed the ‘Movies/Actresses’ a really nice touch 👌🏻. I love Diane Lane especially in that movie ‘Under the Tuscan Sun’. Your video and your Coastal Looks and watching that movie again just makes me want to get dressed like that pack a picnic and head to the nearest beach . Thank you lovely lady you have made me feel so summery now 🌞🌻with lots to look forward to
Thank you for this video 😃
Thanks for watching!😊
Beautiful outfits👏👏👏
I'm okay with "coastal", but not "grandmother"! 😊
😜
First I have seen of your videos. Very nice. I really, really like that you use the same purse and shoes for each outfit! I think most people cannot/ do not want or have 5 or so purses to exchange for each outfit-what a hassle that is. Thanks
Hello, Very helpful style hacks. Thank you
Thank you for watching my video!😊
Wow, and thank you, Kay.
Beautiful and helpful tips, that will make organize my closet.
God bless you and thanks again.
🥰🙏❤️🌷✝️🌹👍✨🌼💫🌟🌺
😊
Include Bamboo in your natural fibers
Thanks Kay for the terrific and timely video! I have several pairs of linen Eileen Fisher pants with elastic waistbands and love the coastal aesthetic, but sometimes I want to accentuate my waist. Is there a way to tuck my shirt or belt the pants to accentuate my waist a bit? Thank you!!❤️
I love the coastal chic look in the summer. I recently invested in a pair of oatmeal/flax linen pull-on ankle length pants that are oh so comfortable. I look forward to getting a lot of wear with these. I tend to lean towards the preppy look in the summer. Do you still wear the navy/white sail boat shorts from Talbots? I recently wore mine and I get so many compliments on them. I would love to see a video on how to style shorts in the summer. I would also like some ideas on what you wear for lounging around the house. Thanks for your style inspiration. Love the blue/white striped linen dress!
Fantastic timely subject! What color light longer rain jacket Kaye? Navy, beige, olive? ("asking for a friend")..Love navy, beige seems bland, black not great with navy, etc. New England September cruise...:) I have that black cashmere wrap and it's been to Alaska twice.
Not scarves for summer, no
I like your new haircut, I just had 3 inches taken off mine.
I'm on board early for this! 😉
😊
Kay, where did you get the skirt? Love it.
Here is a link for you to check it out!😊It’s from Veronica Beard.
liketk.it/4HXqI
In my closet I have a top that is white with navy stripes that is a sleek/stretch material that I purchased at Chicos a few years ago. I do not wear linen but I do wear cotton so I do have a pair of both white and a sand colored straight slacks that I purchased from Talbots Outlet last year. I also have quite a few white cotton blend blouses-button down the front blouse -3/4 sleeved-(which on me are long sleeved to me-because I have short arms) I usually prefer longer sleeves. I think I should add a nice short sleeve white cotton blouse to my wardrobe. Do you have any stores where I can purchase one? Thanks for the great video! Blessings!
I don’t see the lovely blue dress in the links. Am I just missing it?
I really like the plaid button down shirt. Unfortunately, $248 for 1 shirt is not in my budget. ❤
I have to say I notice that as I wear those linen clothes it just doesn't look good on me -- more like an unmade bed. When I wear more taylored clothes I look so much more put together.
Instead of the loop tie on the shirt...whenever you do a regular knot the tie that is lying to the TOP of the first knot is the one that you loop over the top again. If you take the tie from the bottom and cross it over the top it will make it sit sideways. The same concept applies when doing a bow. Always take the top tie or loop and cross it over the top. Wish I could draw a picture 😂
Square knot - right over left , then left over right ( or vice versa ) . " Smooth " the knot so it's flatter & a bit snug for less of a bulge & doesn't work loose yet it will be easy to untie .
Thanks for the hacks, especially #3 - I have to buy large shirts for the bust but my hips fit medium pants - so too much fabric around the hips.
Same, and I have most of my tops altered for that reason. Makes a huge difference.
@@maryokeefe5351 any brands that seem to be larger in the bust - I know Ralph Lauren runs small!
I have a straw bucket hat!
Perfect!
@@DressedforMyDaywithKayHarms lol!
Would a cool muted green work with the coastal color palette?
No one asked me, but I say yes! I love those cool, muted greens, too, friend🙂
@@kimberlyperrotis8962 Agree ! Think of all the different colors of sea glass ! 💙💚💛 etc.
I look pretty good with things tucked in when I’m standing, but when I sit I feel like my tummy hangs over and I feel very uncomfortable and self conscious 😮
❤linen
Me too!😊
I am a grandma. But I’m definitely costal. But I can pretend to be. I wear the clothes. Even if live nowhere near an ocean.
More Bible Belt than Coastal Chic...
Well. This Texas girl will wear it today. I like it.
@@carolalvarez3925 QED...
Now now, no need to be mean.
Great info but that plaid shirt is definitely not coastal chic. You won’t see it here. Sorry.
Your outfits are lovely but honestly, Kay, those dark brown criss cross sandals do nothing to help. Feet look squeezed into them…sorry. I do love you and the videos still. I guess those sandals must be comfortable for you.
Hahaha! The sandals are extremely comfortable and even a little loose on my feet. Things are not always as they appear on a screen.
Could you recommend alternatives for the beautiful A-line golden tan skirt? The one you’re wearing retails for around $400. 😮
I don’t see the lovely blue dress in the links. Am I just missing it?
Here’s the link! It’s under outfit 3😊
