That main huge chord descending progression just smacks of stadium-prog rock of the 70s like Genesis or something, then all the sudden they shut it down and go all weirdly angular, then bring it thru a sweet indiepop bridge back to the prog again. Such a great mixture of influences.
one of the biggest mistakes I routinely made as a guitarist in a band was thinking that me and the other guitarist always had to have our own parts... but listen to how great it sounds when these two come into unison... amazing
Greg made me love this band. Dude does more on the smallest drum kit than a lot do on 5 piece. His spazzing and signatures and fucking snare rolls are just mmmmm
Man this is such a *nice* live recording, y'know? Captures the raw energy and sounds clear and balanced at the same time, you can everything that's going on. Props to the sound guys!
You said it. Saw these guys in Santa Fe a couple years ago. I'd been listening for years, but had no idea what the band looked like. Amazing show. Super loud and fun. These guys know their craft. Even bought a t-shirt. The kicker? I tried to haggle for a discount. After the deal was done, my husband was like, "that was was the BAND staffing the merchandise booth, honey. That guy you sweated for a cheaper price? He's the drummer..."
Just saw them again for the second time and can't stop watching live videos of them. How can I wait another whole year or more to see their magic unfold?!?!?
i like how unlimited Greg's creativity applies to those limited drums. a snare a bass and a tom. basically. this is talent and 'flo'-meaning if u got it then it dont matter what limits ur facing youll just run right through em, i know i got flo. im a shreddist/guitarist/weirdist...ect
I talked to Satomi after a show and asked about the bass. She actually bought it herself at a yard sale and learned to play it. Ergo: Satomi is an amazing musician of her own right.
I don't see the resemblance to Cardiacs. I'd say they have a The Who energy with post-hardcore and noise-rock textures (Sonic Youth, Unwound..) + poppy melodic hooks.
Milk Man sleeps on the roof in the noon Bana-na-na stabbed to the arms, weird man Ooh-la-la Milk Man sneaks in the house under moon Miracle words come to a mouth you may hear Peek-a-boo Chorus: Come closer How beautiful I play sound Boys and girls Here I come I get you to escape night Boys and girls Be mine I'll take you to my dream land Now you're mine I'll take you to our dream land Milk Man smiles to you "Hi" in a nude "This banana stuck in my arms, oh my love" Stabbed to the arms, ooh-la-la Yellow one Chorus Boo, boo, the Milk Man Hi, hi, he's masked man
it's insane how frequently I return to this video to remind me of what a band can aspire to
You and me both.
!
Just did the same
This is an all time recording session!
Same here!
Perfectly said!

and the last 15 seconds of the song is like the heaviest mathrocking of all. total Slint "Tweeze" material.
they remind me a lot of Television but like proggier, but they also capture that 2000s indie aesthetic too. With a hint of FLCL soundtrack vibe
@@R0b1zzle137 never noticed the similarities to Television before but you're right
@sizone Miles Davis-laced dream funk rock fusion
its like punk charlie brown

One of the best bands I have ever seen.
the guitars work together so well. John and ed are so talented and tasteful
I was waiting for the drummer to spontaneously combust. Lol
LorenzoNW fun fact, greg the drummer has tourettes
That was Spinal Tap.

Agreed, never heard drums sound that great in a basement.
Can't hear about 30% of what Greg is doing on the snare, it loses those little touches. Regardless it's a great live recording
Agree! The recording quality and video editing match the incredible performance.
I thought The same
This has a "Can" energy to it, sounds awesome!
On a level deer hoof are one of the greatest rock bands ever
i couldn't appreciate Deerhoof as a band any more. Every musician is my favorite.
You said it. Saw these guys in Santa Fe a couple years ago. I'd been listening for years, but had no idea what the band looked like.

i just love how well they all work together to play so precisely.
Just saw them again for the second time and can't stop watching live videos of them. How can I wait another whole year or more to see their magic unfold?!?!?
I love how that in every Deerhoof song, you're just waiting for Greg to explode!
so many moments of sublime beauty
Wow! Deerhoof are just such a delight. Playful, melodic, tight as some tights. Wonderful.
DAMN IT I cant get any work done because I'm addicted to Deerhoof.
Peter Humble except us goverment didn't invent deerhoof
Band is so pure. An oasis a totally BS free zone. So refreshing.
Forget about the Rolling Stones...this band is the ultimate in kicking out the jams!
That descending bit at the start reminds me of Cardiacs "Cold As Can Be In An English Sea". Killer stuff
This song is like 10 odd musical approaches put into a slap chop.
Perfect!
The drummer is so into it! I am loving this way too much.
This music is amazing.
bought tickets to see them next 30 january, oof actually excited
what a great band
I love this band so much.
Best live video on RUclips
Everything about this is just absolutely grand.
They are so good.
Juan has a cool basement
3:01 cut that shit

the beginning riff reminds me of television! :)
+punktard Totally get what you mean!
this is my new favorite band...
I want my friends to know I love this after I die
I have since bought almost every LP they've put out after my prior comment. I really need that early bird edition of The Magic, though :)
Those are the biggest hi hats I've ever seen anybody play, goddamn
That's because those are all ride cymbals.
A lovely gem...
この演奏と映像、ホント好き!
I saw these guys at The Record Bar durring Middle of the Map Fest; they have amazing stage presence.
Great tunage with elements of Sonic Youth amongst other great noodles
Improv rock, with twisted concepts of lyrically answered existential questions no one ever asked, but should have.
What genre.. 🤔 Progressive, experimental, classic rock, mixed with noise love it
Nothing in this song is expected. 🎉
As one who listens to a very wide variety of music, these guys could just be my favorite current touring band.
This is awesome
Tighter than yoga pants in dallas .. wish we had myspace back so this could be my homepage music.

3:01 "stop it, guys"
Here I am. In Nagoya on the day of their concert in Nagoya. And I have to be in an office building for a business trip.
hell yeah this is awesome! thank you pitchfork
ESTA SESIÓN ESTA INCREIBLE :') SIEMPRE QUE ES UN BUEN DÍA, VENGO AQUI Y DISFRUTO
How fast was that white tiger running to get that stuck in the wall?
They often are born with birth defects...so possibly easy prey.
haha nice
Not fast enough.
Priceless!!!
this is amazing
Esta siempre será una clase maestra de innovación, desprolijidad y genialidad... gracias por esto. Un altar al que siempre he de volver.
Brilliant.
The Runners Four (album) lives eternally in the Magic section of my brainbox.
What a drumming
Love it

Stop using dynamite, hire the drummer for demolition duties.
I used to play this on KCSB
dear Rock, You're wrong about everything in life.
Deerhoof came from magic.
William, she plays a compact bass because it fits her arms. Not yours.
Awesomely said! 💯👏🌹💎

I like this...I do.
music even jazzers can get into
I miss my wife
Pixies meets Cardiacs
Cardiacs 💕
I don't see the resemblance to Cardiacs.
I'd say they have a The Who energy with post-hardcore and noise-rock textures (Sonic Youth, Unwound..) + poppy melodic hooks.
Man I remember when I showed people these guys they wouldn't shut the hell up about the vocals and I was like listen to everything but the vocals duh!
legit.
o ya
The opening of this song sounds like "Everyday People" by Sly and the Family Stone.
What do you think aurally?
The chord drop at 1:14 has always absolutely killed me. It's the kindness after the slap.
Bandsintown app recommended I see this band in Boise tomorrow because of my interest in The Black Keys. What the hell??
go , is a good band
Deerhoof is better
They are kinda similar in a way.
Spinetta sal de ahí, tu no tocas la batería
What I really want to know is what is she saying??
Milk Man sleeps on the roof in the noon
Bana-na-na stabbed to the arms, weird man
Ooh-la-la
Milk Man sneaks in the house under moon
Miracle words come to a mouth you may hear
Peek-a-boo
Chorus:
Come closer
How beautiful I play sound
Boys and girls
Here I come
I get you to escape night
Boys and girls
Be mine
I'll take you to my dream land
Now you're mine
I'll take you to our dream land
Milk Man smiles to you "Hi" in a nude
"This banana stuck in my arms, oh my love"
Stabbed to the arms, ooh-la-la
Yellow one
Chorus
Boo, boo, the Milk Man
Hi, hi, he's masked man
