Great to see a Framemeister video. It's a wonderful scaler that is overshadowed by cheaper options. Many ossc users base their TV purchase on compatability. You'd think the Framemeister would hold more appeal with its comparatively easy setup. I can only guess the price and having to import it from Japan is a big deterrent. Despite its age and a long trend of seeing the price fall for used units on eBay, the framemeister is currently enjoying a big bump in price. I guess from people stuck at home from the current situation and also not knowing the are still sold on Solaris Japan. I can't figure it out!
Did you get a good price? I paid $320 for a boxed one with a few adapters about 6 months ago. Added it back to the collection after selling my old one a coulle years ago. I picked it up just for PS2 480i. Nothing else seemed to give a result I like.
I hope you continue to do retro inspired videos. We need more!
More retro videos was the sole reason for purchase! I mean my unboxings and switch content are awesome but I have some great old games I wanna talk about! I'd say I got a decent deal though, a ended up paying Solaris price (which has gone up again since) but also got around $250 worth of cables and the overlay for the remote free. Plus it was CIB!
Wow! Looks so great!! I need to use mine now!
Especially because you have a dang rfb modded 64 what the heck!!!
Yeah, if you play on a LED/LCD Screen this is the way. The only better Picture option whould be a BVM or PVM but first they have not so much inch in screen size and second they go extreme high up in price. Im glad you bought that one so im sure i can see some more cool Saturn Gameplay soon. I will send you a Gamelist to check out soon.
A PVM would be dope as hell but you are right those are high in price. But yeah I'm gonna have to do some Saturn stuff soon!
I forget what you picked this over but I remember at the time saying to wait. that's all I remember about this.... Okay you get huge props for the Sonic Jam 6 footage
Osscpro is coming out, I think the FM will be better still tho
I prefer the ossc to the framemeister, but I still have my framemeister for the psp in full screen on my tv. For Sony TV's, I found the Denon AVRs will fix compatibility with the nes and SNES through the ossc.
I don't have an OSSC nor do I have a friend with one to test, I'd love to do some comparisons in the future though!
@@BlipsnPips if you get into making optimal timing profiles then you can achieve a sharper image than you can with the framemeister, and the ossc has a good LPF for getting rid of most analogue noise in the image. But the framemeister is more compatible with tv and console combos and it still gives a great image. You can't go wrong with either :D
Ok i admit i was thinking this would be a meh difference at best but wow. Pretty rad!
Fun story as I was dialing in settings for hours on end I got screen blind and was like "how much did I spend on this? I swear it just looks like how I remember the games looking" then I put the footage side by side and was like "oh.....". I think in my mind like that's how the games looked to me growing up. Like Zelda oot on 64 vs the 3ds version. HUGE DIFFERENCE but to me it looked like it did when I played it the first time.
Wow, the difference is huge!
Right!?
Nice video. What kind of cables do you use on the ps2? Looking at your gamecube games i assume you use settings focussed on NTSC-region for the framemeister?
I was actually using a RGC scart cable that came with the set when I bought it. But yea, I took some templates and tweaked them for my setup, I am no professional but I did do some research and touched it up to make it look as nice as I could. But yea I am located in the US so everything i do is on NTSC hardware
Nice footage, Framemeister is awesome for sure! I've got the original retrotink and HD Retrovision cables (if you'd like to borrow and review/compare them that would be cool).
That would be awesome!!
Hm, interesting stuff. It’s almost (and probably true) that the tech was optimized for the TVs at the time. It’s also shed some light on some “remasters” that are released these days that are probably just reoptimized versions with texture packs released for the new systems.
Yea especially the "download only" ones, since they use emulation its easy to give it the same effect
Awesome video! You spoke about video profiles; do you think there’s a chance we can download these and add on the Framemeister? Or is it depended on each console?
So I created the profiles myself for the consoles I've currently have Scart cables for, sega, playstation, andsega saturn. If you email me WolfeCronin@gmail.com I would be happy to email those to you
Great video - Quick question what game capture did you use to record with? I understand it goes through the framemeister 1st then into your game capture device?
Yea console -> elgato card -> tv
@@BlipsnPips were all these recorded footage just using the composite cable into the framemeister?
@@GameRelated yes, although now (3 years later) I have upgraded all of my consoles to HD retrovision or Retrogaming Cables component stuff. and it looks EVEN BETTER.
Dang you cute. 😍🔥
You ah
10/10 I wouldn't need him to wear a paper bag
Are there any alternatives to the Framemeister? It's surprisingly expensive and I still have yet to find any in used shops.
In order of cheapest to most expensive, retrotink2x -> OSSC -> Framemeister
THe thing is that there more option for the price now.
THe OSSC game 3 years agors
The Retro 2x game 2 years agos
Those a legitimate option for retro gaming today that give GREAt RESULT
I am trying to get a retrotink for some comparison footage, im less inclined for an OSSC purely because im US based and its not as convenient for me.
Solaris japan is now selling the Framemeister for # $390. $50 higher than it was a couple months ago.
A few months ago when I started looking it was 350 shipped
N64 RGB mod is super easy. I recommend voultars board
Quick question, say I am using composite from my 64 for my crt, after the rgb mod is there no going back? Like rgb cables (scart for me) only?
@@BlipsnPips I'm not 100% sure, but I'm about 90% sure that composite and s-video will still work thru the multi-out. All your really doing is restoring the rgb that is already there in the PAL version
I'll do some digging
Dang
Dang good? Or dang bad?
If you add mClassic it will blow your mind 10/10
I would LOVE to check one out, but my upscaling budget is a bit blown atm lol
Oohhgood
Indeed
to answer ur question.........no ;)
The question was SHOULD you, not CAN you
