    Due to a miscommunication, this scheduled tow was about to turn into a waste of time. Our company policy is that we need someone to ride on the boat (preferably the owner) when it’s under tow in case something happens. Our national dispatch incorrectly told this customer that he didn’t need to ride on the boat and never noted that in our dispatch. Luckily for me, I had Bobby with me this morning, and he, although reluctantly, agreed to ride on the towed boat for the several-hour tow to our destination.

    In this video, we take you along for what was supposed to be a straightforward towing job, but a miscommunication nearly turned it into a complete waste of time! Our company has a strict policy that whenever a boat is under tow, someone-ideally the owner-needs to ride on the boat. This is crucial in case anything unexpected happens during the tow. Unfortunately, our national dispatch team misinformed the customer, telling him that he didn’t need to ride along. To make matters worse, this important detail wasn’t noted in our dispatch instructions.
    When we arrived to begin the tow, it quickly became clear that something was off. Luckily, I had Bobby with me this morning, and even though he wasn’t exactly thrilled about it, he agreed to ride on the boat for the several-hour tow to our destination. Without him stepping in, this tow could have been called off, wasting everyone’s time and effort.
    In the end, we were able to complete the job, but this situation highlights the importance of clear communication and sticking to safety protocols. Watch as we handle the unexpected and navigate the challenges that come with towing boats over long distances. Whether you’re in the industry or just curious about what goes into these jobs, this video offers a unique look behind the scenes!

    Bobby seems pretty laid back. I'm sure he was a bit frustrated, but why let it ruin your day.

    Ken, great video! Don't feel bad for Bobby, he signed on as your apprentice basically and being aboard the cat is part of his job.

      It wouldn't have been a problem if he knew ahead of time that he was going to ride on there...he just was looking forward to doing the tow himself and not babysitting the other boat

      Bobby said the interior of the boat was actually in pretty decent condition and not reflective of the exterior

      @@CaptKenO Good to hear. I'd love to own another sailboat, but I think my boat owning days are behind me. I just settled into my new home in WPB, so I'll have plenty of time on the water while scuba diving. Maybe even do some charter fishing.

    • @CaptKenO
      @CaptKenO  Месяц назад +1

      It's definitely a lot of work owning your own boat and sailboats are probably the worst ones what with all the extra rigging and everything

    • @traveling_art
      @traveling_art Месяц назад

      @CaptKenO Yeah, my last boat was a 27' Catalina, I sailed on Lake Erie. And you're right. Owning and maintaining a sailboat, or any boat for that matter, is a lot of work. Especially in salt water.

      @CaptKenO  Месяц назад +1

      @traveling_art why do you think I just work for the people who own the boats? 😂

      Looks good doesn't it? The camera manufacture released an update to their software that let me change some settings...all future recorded videos should look much better!

      @@CaptKenO Ken is it settings in the camera that can be changed, or changes in the editing software they provide? I'd like to take advantage of the changes.

      @sethg.4127 in the editing software. There might be a new firmware release as well, but I haven't checked

      @@CaptKenO Was from the mud in front of bay front park back to the mooring field ball 12 in 2019 probably before you started there? Very short literally less than 200 feet so I guess I got lucky there
      I know you helped me re-anchor one of my boats though I still have a Captain Ken saved in my phone. Before towboat dropped me for over use it was fun while it lasted.

    • @CaptKenO
      @CaptKenO  Месяц назад +1

      Ah OK. Yeah. Definitely putting a boat back on a mooring they'd need another set of hands.
      2019 was before I even started working for TBUS in Venice 😂
