- Making a great homemade chocolate ice cream sandwich doesn’t seem hard, since it’s basically just two chocolate cookies with some vanilla ice cream pressed in between, but while the construction isn’t complicated, getting the taste and texture just right is. Here’s how to get it just right. Enjoy!

Chef John, do you know what you’ve done? The pure hedonism you’ve unlocked by giving me the knowledge and power to be able to create ice cream sandwiches whenever they suit me. You have turned me into the antagonist of my own nightmare. I can’t thank you enough.
I feel the same 😢/🥳
I know we've had some risqué jokes over the years, but never would I have expected to be called a "size queen" by Chef John.
It's always startling to me, even after the shibari references
("once we've tapped that" being a subtle follow up)
@@erikharrison What were the shibari comments?
I don't eat any ice cream sandwiches less than 7 inches long.
We all love these moist holes in Ice cream Sandwiches
Does the cookie stick to your fingers? Because that is important for accuracy.
You're quite the connoisseur, Stuart,oh yes.
some of it sticks to the plate the end so thats a good sign
agree
It sure looks like it does
Hahaha. I was thinking the same! I love licking the cookie off my finger. 😬
"If you eat some of the dough it won't make six. You've been warned" Chef John knows us too well.

When chef John said “you don’t want to know where artificial vanilla comes from” my first thought was “maybe I do!” So I looked it up. I regret that. Well played chef John.
I figured, from the way he said it, that he was talking about beaver's ass, which I've heard about before. That's used to make a few different artificial flavors, IIRC. >YUK
Same 🤦♂️
always makes me wonder, who was the first one to discover this?
@@GreasyMcNasty a Canadian maybe,😏
@@milkbar1407 Imagine the conversation...
Girl: Why do you taste like vanilla, every time you go beaver hunting?
guy : *shrug*
A tip I learned & wanted to share when making ice cream sandwiches, to prevent the cookies from cracking place 1 cookie on your fingers (not in your palm) place the scoop of ice cream on, then place the other cookie on top & with a push & slight turn you'll get a ice cream sandwich that's secure & without any cracks in your cookies. Thanks Chef John for another wonderful recipe!! Have a fabulous Memorial Day Weekend
Thank you!
the size queen joke gave me whiplash, well done Chef
I just got done watching the volcano pork and now this is here. I love it here!

Double plus good.

I never knew I wanted to know how they make artificial vanilla until you said I didn't. Had to stop this video to see how. Beaver me, Chef's right.
The holes are a must. The rectangular ones looked like extra long edible dominoes to me when I was little. 😋
I made these for my adult sons who often refer to 'food memories' from their childhood. What they don't know is that I made them back then too! LOL!
awwww
you should tell them
Lol that’s amazing
just for anyone like me who have never listened to a podcast before you should listen to chef John's it's very entertaining. hello from Vietnam
"Round shape notwithstanding..." - such an excellent word for the shape-shaming disclaimer.
Idk why I cannot help but giggle at the whole "shape-shaming" thing...🤭🤣🤭
😜😜😜
I think I will try these with the Black Cocoa I got from the King Arthur Baking Company for making Oreos.
That definitely sounds like the right move. I think I will order some. And some cocoa rouge as well. Because why not? I have some Dröste dutched cocoa from World Market that is great for nearly everything and only about $6 a box, I might make a batch from that first just to set a control. I use it to make Chef John's Chocolate Sour Cream Bundt Cake and it always blows everyone away. You should absolutely try that if you haven't. It works for layers and cupcakes, too. Phenomenal.
@Patrick Hudson took me while to understand your comment. You meant it as a joke, right? I edited my comment because some people may not be familiar with the king arthur comoamy
@@SuZiKaT22 Heh, I use Droste in that recipe, too. Swapping in some Guinness amps up the flavor, as does some cayenne in the ganache.
Good quality cocoa is a must.
@Patrick Hudson Hmm. Interesting point. I didn't dumb it down, I clarified my statement. Of course, I realize now your Mordred comment doesn't make sense which too bad because it was funny.
Whoa. Did Chef John just drop the "SQ" term? 3:13
what ever happened to susan jane
I had to scrub back, I thought I heard it wrong.
I read your comment right as he said that lmfao caught me so off guard 😂😂
Wat?
Chef John: "You don't wanna be a shape-shamer."
Me: I'm busy shape-shaming myself.
Yeah, you don't want to be doing that either
@@tremolo2109 What a dream 🤣
@@fatemahammoudful I mean, you can try. No matter what you don't like about your body, the shame isn't helping you.

me too, me too...
Oh man I'm definitely going to try to make these asap. Thank you for all your great videos.
chef Jon, love ur show, I’ve been called and amazing chef just cause I follow ur recipes. 😂. I use to work at an ice cream store. We would assemble ice cream sandwiches. A tasty trick is to spread room temp hot fudge topping on the inside of both cookies.
2:35 Ah, I see. So it makes exactly five sandwiches. Got it.
👀😋 Yesss!! At most, 5!🤭💖
Love this! Gets straight to the point, delicious and so funny! Can't wait to make these!
Yessss I’ve been wanting this recipe forever!!! Thank youuu 👍
This is the video I didn’t know I needed
Thank you Chef John
Wow. These look great. Memorial Day dessert! Thanks Chef John!
Yummy, I'll try! TYVM!
I did that with gingerbread cookies and eggnog ice cream once ... it turned out really well.
You should try gingerbread with a lemon sorbet for the ice cream. Freaking phenomenal.
So cool, thank you for sharing!
Your recipe never lie. Thanks for sharing this amazing icecream sandwich.
Came out a delicious crowd-pleaser just like EVERY SINGLE other Food Wishes recipe that I've tried. Entertaining as always as well. Also, I tried with homemade ice cream instead of store bought and it did still turn out fantastic!!!

Would love to see your version of the Chili's southwestern eggroll! Guilty pleasure if I ever go there, and I assume they come in frozen, but they are still good. lol, and the sauce is excellent.
What is this thing you speak of?My interest has been piqued!
Oh god Chili's southwest eggroll is amazing.

At first I heard "once dem ho's have been properly punched". I was like DAM Chef John.
In grade school we made ice cream sandwiches by putting cake mix in a waffle iron. Very easy and quite tasty. Slice the ice cream with a knife, OG style.

for an extra treat. the ice cream man brought strawberry ice cream sandwiches. moving forward in time, chocolate ice cream came on the screen.

I was just listening to the Podcast !!
Oh that’s Good! 🤙🤙🤙
I kept buying really good ice cream for kid's birthday parties. Then one day I bought the cheep stuff, and bam! right back to my childhood. I guess my mom bought the least expensive ice cream she could find. Thank you mom for giving us the best ice cream memories. Now I buy the cheep stuff for my kids. Success.
Those are a lot bigger than I thought. Extra yum.

Mmmm, I think I would like to try to make these with strawberry ice cream. After all, chocolate and strawberries go together very well. Or imagine making a peanut butter cookie and using chocolate ice cream. Yum!!
Wow ice cream sandwiches...!

Love that he takes a bite, puts it back down, waits a sec, then picks it back up and repeats.
