Cost cutting Kia edition. This should be its own series. Every manufacturer has been doing it and expecting people to comply. Let the used car market reign
I'm a big Kia booster, but bringing in a Mexican built car is disappointing and that throttle calibration is garbage - especially the way they dismissed it as "normal". If it's keeping the throttle open to the extent there's no vacuum for the brakes if you jump from full throttle to the brakes, that's absolutely not acceptable. I'd expect that from MG, not Kia.
@Mark-jz5ye VW makes terrible quality cars, I wouldn't buy one in a fit. And yes, Kia and Hyundai have a good image in this country because almost all of the cars they sell here are built in Korea. In America they have a terrible reputation because the cars sold there are built in the US and Mexico. It's a hard no, and holding up VW as an example of a quality product is just ridiculous.
Honestly, the last decade auto manufacturers have generally lost the plot. Cheap plastic seems the norm below 100K. I have a MK7.5 Golf R nearly 8 years old, beautifully built, solid good materials, drives fantastic. Looking at recent efforts from VW, and now the Koreans are going the cheap route.
Mid-size sedan segment sells poorly and is already dominated by the Camry. There isn't much demand for the K5 in any RHD market, so they probably haven't bothered engineering a RHD variant

Maybe Subaru crosstrek, forester, Honda crv and Honda hrv all wheel drive. Hope you can feature these vehicles next time. Thank you . You’re doing a great job very informative
Disagree about the last gen Cerato GT being nicer. Yes, I agree that the Kia Cerato GT was quite a good product. And I like the overall design of the old generation better. That said, it was starting to show its age and was pretty telling that it was a mid-late 2010s design as opposed to something timeless like a VE/VF Commodore or 3/5 Series of same age. This new design certainly makes a far greater impression both inside and out. Technology greatly improved as well. It does seem the GT-line may not be as performance oriented as the old GT unfortunately. I would personally wait for a Cerato hybrid.
@@Bembo985 Maybe not VF as much as VE. But VF still looks relatively modern today, at least in Redline trim or as a HSV. And the VE has definitely aged graciously imo. Everything about VE was just perfect and it’s the type of design that you could make today without having to change much.
Hey guys, this is obviously is some sort of calibration/ software issues given they are all drive by wire - and KIA’s response is obviously filtered by some PR junior with no or limited technical understanding. It makes absolutely no sense with Kia’s written responses If anything for safety, if there is a conflict of controls, you would either choose to listen to the brake or go neutral until further more definitive input is detected.
The throttle/brake issue is unfortunate. The styling i love and is a good departure from the plain old Cerato it replaces, and looking forward to seeing the hatch. Massive boot with a spare, gooseneck hinges are a bit of a bummer, but it is what it is. Wish the we got some of the cool colourways the US/Korea get for the interior
You description about the unresponsive throttle for decelerating is exactly how my i30 N Line sedan 6 Sp manual 2023 feels, it almost defeats the beauty of a manual transmission car, when instead of decelerating after releasing the throttle keeps accelerating for a moment before actually decelerating, other than that a decent car for the price.
I have a Hyundai Sonata. If i activate the talk button and say 'Turn of speed assist" then that turns it off instead of having to go through the menus.
Sorry but, Hyundai/Kia have completely lost the plot with new car releases to date. First the i30 Hatch & now this. Prices have jumped up into a different class. We brought our 1st Cerato in 2016 & got it for a drive-away price of just under $19k. In 2021 we then upgraded it to a Cerato Sport+ for $31k drive-away. The price Kia wants for the equivalent K4 Sport+ ? $37,500 plus onroads. It's going to be $9000 more to put it on the road !!!! This new K4 series has the same 2.0lt engine & gearbox. Remember when Kia was the cheaper cousin to Hyundai?? Now the base Kia K4 is more expensive than the base Hyundai i30 sedan. And they are the same damn car under their skin. In 2020 my mate brought a brand-new Cerato GT. Paid just over $33k drive-away. This (so called replacement) GT-Line is going to pretty close to $45k drive-away. 😲 And they are building these in Mexico because it's cheaper??? Sounds more like a bigger profit margin. The Kia Cerato were $20k drive-away for such a long time, but now you're looking at around $33k to get into the base model. A 65% increase in price Yes, yes, yes, we all know prices have gone up with many things. But I don't recall at any time that a new model of a car has gone up the % that these have. Discounting of course cars like Ferrari, Lambo or other Supercars.
My wife's 2l cvt Seltos also surges after taking your foot off the throttle in spirited driving. I thought it was the cvt. Very disconcerting feeling. Had issues with the Seltos brakes on 3 occasions, and we also got a long response saying that the brakes are ok. (Loss of braking power is not ok). I don't feel that these lengthy responses saying the cars are normal is good enough.
What a joke with the pricing across all brands, they're taking the piss. Got my Cerato Sport new in 2020 for 21.5K driveaway. The GT was about 10K more than that.
The sticking or not dropping down acceleration after taking your foot off the accelerator sounds dangours. The design is ugly and when they design a car to lack head room in the rear you would normally hope its because the car looks amazing but instead its a strange hatchback sedan look. And what is with the huge ugly plastic seat backs on the front seats that stick up past the top of the seat? So strange looking and pointless. Cabin noise is shocking as well. Does kia do any local tuning these days? And one last thing I am wondering is when headroom is lacking in rear seats it would seem to make a mockery of crash safety if your head is touching the side/roof area and possibly could mean in a crash the head of a rear seat passenger make contact with the side airbags as they deploy?
What happens when the new emission laws come into effect for these cars with no hybrid? Are they going to get more expensive and does resale effect these cars later? Maybe do a talk about how this affects buyers?
I experienced the acceleration issue with kia seltos during test drive, when I lifted my foot from acceleration the car still accelerates half a sec. Found it wierd

I was advised that although left foot braking is legal, if you're in an accident you 'may' be found at fault as some consider it negligent. Apparently it can also can extra fatigue on parts designed for right foot braking, like in your test
There are no parts designed for left or right foot braking. I've never had issues with braking in any vehicles except this one, so I'd suggest it's a calibration issue. We timed the delay at just under a second - even with right foot braking, your foot would swivel in a third of that time and you'd encounter the same issue.
@@CarExpertAus I agree. I was just letting you know what I was told. My reference to this test was the slight delay in throttle can be an allowance built in from removing the right foot and placing it in the brake. Bad example, but the older fiat 500 automatically goes into a fault mode if it detects brake and pedal simultaneously or without a micro break between pressure
@@Flaming-Hedgehog funny, I just contacted NRMA and they advised that although it's not illegal it is classed as a dangerous habit and in some cases may make you At Fault in a claim
@@awesomekidthe2nd Righto, I can see their point as some people in a panic will stomp on both the gas and the brake but I've never heard of anyone ever been questioned by police or insurers about which foot they braked with in a crash either. However modern cars with fly by wire accelerators have a disconnect if you press the brake, an annoyance of mine if trying to spool up a turbo.
I read somewhere that the throttle delay is also present in the hyundai i20N and apparently it's an emissions control strategy in the ECU programming. Th
Why on earth would you left foot brake? That’s a no no. It should only be done in exceptional circumstances such as racing driving, occasionally during specific off-road driving or when launching. It’s a very poor habit to left foot brake at any other time. Just stop doing it. I try to limit braking altogether whenever possible and just lift off to slow down and use gears (downshifting). I only brake when required where possible. My brake pads last a super long time.
Styling is refreshing on the outside, plain on the inside, but not quite sporty enough to wear GT Line badge. Throttle hang is the type of thing you'd expect from a chinese manufacturer, unforgivable for Hyundai/Kia.
Would be worthwhile putting an average of your cabin noise intrusion or a level that's reasonable so it's easier to gauge for viewers. Left foot braking is a bad habit that shouldn't be encouraged. A large number of people who do it then rest their foot there, meaning brake lights are constantly on or flashing. You don't do it a manual and shouldn't in and auto.
So the throttle hang is basically shitty programming / needs a better blow off valve... The car looks great, sadly this will never be sold in Germany. Would be an awesome and actually affordable car.

When I first read that I honestly thought you were talking about your ex.
Why are Kia’s designs getting so ugly. All the last model cars were better all round. This new drop tail light and drop headlight design is just shit. I’ve got the stinger, and what a design that was. Kia, you’ve lost me
How can this car be "re-hashed," if it is a new car..?
I remember when a brand new Kia cost 14000
KIA cars change design continuously
I wonder if you can add the digital Speedo in the info screens via the button on the steering wheel. I have an I30 N Sedan and I took longer than I would like to admit to find it
Who styled the exterior? A blind guy?
Ugliest car I have seen since the new Santa Fe.
I love the new Santa Fe!
Good example of questioning the things we're told by others.
It's more like a new model Optima. The wagon would be the one to have.
Cerato GT was over 40g so not much of a price hike when the k4 is on a new platform with an all new design
no, it is alomost 10k price hike
The placement of the climate screen is criminally stupid 🤣
I dumped the KIA EV3 on that too, it annoyed me to no end when test driving it.
Looks like something from the 70s. Yuk.
I was around in the 70s and nothing looked like this. Everything in Au looked more like stylized biscuit tins.
@@Flaming-Hedgehogthis is the modern version of a biscuit tin.
No 360 cameras view
I read somewhere that the throttle delay is also present in the hyundai i20N and apparently it's an emissions control strategy in the ECU programming. Th
It was in the i20N, as mine was pretty bad. But it got fixed with a software update. Maybe they think an auto box might hide it??
As this is channel“Korean CarExpert”
Why on earth would you left foot brake? That’s a no no.
It should only be done in exceptional circumstances such as racing driving, occasionally during specific off-road driving or when launching.
It’s a very poor habit to left foot brake at any other time. Just stop doing it. I try to limit braking altogether whenever possible and just lift off to slow down and use gears (downshifting). I only brake when required where possible. My brake pads last a super long time.
How long have you been a defensive driving instructor?
Reckon it would look good lowered, in black, at night
Styling is refreshing on the outside, plain on the inside, but not quite sporty enough to wear GT Line badge.
Throttle hang is the type of thing you'd expect from a chinese manufacturer, unforgivable for Hyundai/Kia.
Lol The headlights follows the global theme and look good! Yey Tasman will be the Ugly Duckling !
A bit underwhelming
They look so good and distinct with the amber drls here in the States!!
Yeah, completely agreed with this. Left foot braking should most certainly not be encouraged.
Externally it looks like the Civic
At least it’s different 😊and has unique quirky characteristics 😂 a seller.
So the throttle hang is basically shitty programming / needs a better blow off valve...
The car looks great, sadly this will never be sold in Germany. Would be an awesome and actually affordable car.
