I think the xenomorph's form of communication is FAR more advanced than human beings. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe its a telepathic ability, sort of a far more developed form of how social insects use pheromones, but they use their minds to talk to each other. Of course the Queen having the most powerful and developed brain, allows her to command her brood to whatever is required.

Ripley's glance at the queen when the egg opens, that "well shit, now I *gotta* do it" is SO SO SO GOOD. They briefly had a mutual understanding and that egg broke it and all hell breaks loose. What a perfect transition in a single look.

    • @perrycarters3113

The whole exchange between them-burning around the eggs, but not actually burning them-a clear threat. "You might kill me, but I will burn many of your eggs before I die."
Cost-benefit analysis, no two hosts are worth an entire clutch of eggs; she orders her xenos to back off and give Ripley a clear line of escape, but then has a nearby egg open while Ripley walks by, obviously intending to blitz Ripley with a facehugger. The Queen clearly believes it has Ripley's undivided attention; Ripley then burns the eggs in retribution then flees, their "deal" broken.
Such excellent direction. With no words spoken, the entire interaction is clearly understood.

I totally agree. I remember seeing this movie back in 1986 and it scared me with those things. In Alien Ellen Ripley against the smaller Xenomorph but nothing compared to the Mother Queen When Ripley came back to another space station she had nightmares and she was afraid but she managed to confront her fear and the Mother Queen was her fear. She blew the queen out of the airlock like she did the last one. Alien was scary b/c the whole crew died the cat was the only one alive. In Aliens they were everywhere. The other part that gets me the most is the people in a coccon state when marines see the nest. Ellen Ripley knew what she was going up against they didn't have a clue. The nest part always gets me. The one woman when we eyes open and she said Please kill me.
The alien was inside her and it woke the others up. I also like The Terminator & Terminator 2 Titanic, True Lies
Avatar and James Cameron is great when it comes flims. The Queen was the scariest I have ever seen and she is huge.

this time its war. I have Alien and Aliens 2 and Aliens the second one was more intense and scarier b/c the xenmorph was everywhere. The part that got me was when they tried to close the doors and make sure they don't come in and when Hudson is looking at his machine it shows the aliens coming and they were above them and Hudson wasn't reading it right and Ripley looked up when she looked at the signal. You hear Hicks saying "OH MY GOD!" They cut the power.... Then you see seem that scared me and the little girl Newt in the water and Alien takes her. The Queen represented Ripley's fear. Xenormorph's can't be killed b/c there is nothing to kill them. Their is acid is blood. Is Alien Convant any good?

And I don't mean in an Aliens 3 way where like, it's a decent movie but I dislike it because of where the story fits into the chronology of the series. Covenant is just stupid in almost all regards. It's a bad film with bad forgettable characters who make stupid decisions and nobody is likable. The story makes the mythos significantly worse by introducing several strange plot holes that both eliminate mystery and contradict established lore. It is a mess of a film technically as well, with almost an hour of deleted scenes that are needed to even understand the characters. It's not just that you shouldn't see it, you should actively pretend it doesn't exist.

Sigourney Weaver insisted that the she would never see the puppet suit of The Queen before the lighting, mist and other preparations for this scene were complete, because she wanted to be genuinely afraid of it. I almost felt kind of bad when they started shooting at the Queen, since it seemed like she was going to let them pass, but it's almost like these aliens, and their hive, are connected to the Queen, like she commanded the eggs to open so they could kill Ripley and Newt.

It's established through the novels/comics that while the drones aren't especially intelligent (they're only about as smart as an average dog), the Queens have like 200+ IQ, making them smarter than most humans ever born. They're capable of not only understanding cause and effect, but also concepts like delayed gratification, long-term planning and lying/misdirection. Given all that, I highly doubt that this Queen intended to let Ripley and Newt walk away. More likely once they were safely away from the hive (and the precious eggs), the Queen would immediately send her remaining drones after them.

She reasons that while it is possible to kill or capture her the cost to do so is too high for 1 target. The drones and warriors would've stupidly attacked and caused a lot of damage and gotten nothing to show for it. I'm sure what was communicated was probably along the lines of "Now is not the time. The female character of Ellen Ripley is so well written because she is FEMALE. She is not invincible, she's weak, afraid and vulnerable, but she endures in the end. Her mothers instinct is apparent through the whole movie. In fact both the first movie and this second one has one coherent theme: Motherhood and the cycle of life.
The scenes with the Alien queen also touches on the theme of female rivalry and the deep hostility and revenge that female enmity can create.
I think this scene really captures this reasoning, the absolute fear and rage when she unloads the weapon that she barely can hold. This is also one of my favorite scenes in this movie.

Nah. I think I read somewhere that the face hugger parasite within the egg detects a "suitable host" when one approaches the egg at a certain distance. Therefore the eggs opening up, is more instinctual, rather than on command by the Queen. I believe the Queen thought she could deceive Ripley by feigning a less aggressive posture (commanding her guards to back down), knowing full well her mature eggs would hatch, and the face huggers would then subdue Ripley along with Newt. The Queen alien is considerably more intelligent than humans, but at the same time, during this scene, fears the destruction of her future progeny.

Its possibility that the queen did
since Ripley walked through dozen ove eggs and none them opening up by proximity
makes me wonder if the queen intentionally ordered her drone to place newt very close to the queen herself
at very centre ove the hive I bet she even knew Ripley location moment Ripley killed the facehugger and the alien
in fact I think the queen as been present all the way through entire movie moment she commanding her drones to find more hosts, assessing level threat and if there were any the queen would send swarm dozens aliens to deal with it.
In my opinion eggs didn't open up for Ripley simply because the queen herself wanted to see Ripley and deal with her herself
whether curiosity, show dominance or to gloat at Ripley queen wiping out all marines and taking on the colonists to queen point ove view she had won with added bonus that she still had dozens drones for her to command she might've thought well one host isnt a threat but keep those drone guards ready on standby lol

I love Ellen Ripley, one of the best heroines in film history. And I loved playing as Amanda, her daughter, in Alien Isolation. This is such a classic scene, and I feel like Sigourney Weaver still hasn’t been given all the respect she deserves for playing such an iconic character.

The Queen is the only one of the Aliens that actually terrifies me. No matter how many times I watch this film, my heart rate goes through the roof and I get major anxiety! I don't get like this with any other franchise or any other alien from any film. But she fucking terrifies me beyond belief.

This has got to be the best monster in movie history.
They actually had this prop in a museum exhibit and I wasn’t aware, but went with my parents when I was like 9. I had already seen the movie but when I walked in that museum I almost shit my pants. Nothing can prepare you for unexpectedly running into a 20 foot tall Xenomorph Queen.

The scariest part isn’t the alien or the eggs, it’s the fact that the flame thrower will run out of fuel.

Queen Alien: Okay chill tf out with that flamethrower. there you win, i’ll let you run.. happy now-
    *Facehugger hatches*

Queen Alien: oh you just doomed all of-
*Ripley starts to shoot out the flames*

They could easily have ended it with the Queen dying in her lair along with the eggs, but Cameron took it to the next level and have it that the Queen escapes and chases Ripley onto the spaceship. That's why Cameron's movies are so amazing. Always surpassing viewer expectations.

Aliens is the greatest Science Fiction Action Horror movie ever made! And one of my personal favorites if you are a fan and you guys ever get a chance to see a retro screening of it at IMAX in the future do not hesitate! it is truly an amazing experience on that huge screen with that 12 thousand watt sound system.

The Alien franchise had some of the best female characters in film history IMO

    • @agentbrandt

I can only name Ripley and Call (Alien Resurrection). The one in AvP is $hitty and Katherine Waterston's character in Covenant is kind of forgettable. Elizabeth Shaw was ok, but a bit forgettable too.

This was the point in the story line that she finally took a stand. Her crew in the first Alien were killed and and taken to be fertilized by the the zenomorphs. She finally had enough. Bad ass scene.

I think what I love most is Ripley's lack of restraint. She just WANTS to blow every last one of these filthy abominations to hell.
When she grimaces and grunts while expending nearly every shred of ammo she has, it's sheer emotion.
Hatred, directed at an appropriate object, is truly something to behold.

I love how this is two Queen's looking after the young members of their species but one decided to break that deal but with no dialogue.
