"A New Day" was such a beautiful re-introduction to Solstice a couple of years ago. Reflective and warm. Hopeful. Thanks for sharing these guitar tutorials.
It’s my pleasure Douglas. I’ve spent the last 20 years teaching other people’s songs and guitar parts, so it’s quite a novelty to find myself explaining a few of my own 😁
Andy, Barry over at "Classic Album Review" just posted a new video raving about great live bands that he has seen recently - highlighting a band called...Solstice! Nicely done!
Great Andy thanks, one of my favourite Solstice songs ever. That B chord is a Bm7add4(no5th) I think (R-b3-4-b7 - R b7 b7 b3 R 4). Always tricky to name some of these open chords :)
Hi Andy, thanks for this stuff it's really interesting. Your playing was one of the main inspirations to me taking up the guitar some 43 (ish) years ago!
Thanks Andy ... loving these tutorials as I find myself restricted to standard major and minor chords due to lack of ability 🤣 .... I wonder if you could do Bulbul Tarang next? I wish I had the ear to work that one out by myself, but I'm looping that song ever since The 100 Club gig and would love to be able to play it!
Not really a "how do you play this song" question but... your guitar melody lines and phrasing have always been beautiful and emotional. Is it all just done by ear / feel fairly intuitively in real time, or do you record takes and pick out the pearls? Do you have any approach just to get away from random noodling? Any advice on nailing those hummable solos? Cheers!
Honestly, for a solo it’s a very limited window. I’m just responding to the vibe I’m improvising over and if I can do that without thinking about it’s the first take that forms 90% of what stays. Thing is there’s always some clams so I’ll blow a couple more takes to cover the errors but as whole takes they’re never as good as the first. Them when it comes to playing them live I spend hours, days even working out what the hell I did in order to learn them. Same with melody lines, if I don’t get something happening immediately, forget it. It’ll just sound contrived and doesn’t need to be there. I really can’t explain where any of this comes from but it often hearing inspiring music that gets me started.
@@solsticeuk Cheers for the insight! I kind of get it. If I can catch a theme or a mood / feeling it can work ok. Otherwise it can degrade into noodling. That's why I tend to start off copying stuff to get a kind of head start. I'll have it nailed in another 40 years or so! 🤞
@@solsticeuk Hi Andy /Solstice folk, If you have about 1 minute and 6 seconds have a listen to this "tribute"! I definitely enjoyed this! :-) ruclips.net/video/K41-AvALo5o/видео.html

Fabulous Andy
great
Hey man those chord voicings are so soothing! Thanks for showing us how to play the song. Look forward to the next tutorial.
Thanks man, some of my favourite chords in there and I like the way open strings glue them together.
Thanks, Andy. I'm really enjoying these tutorials, I must say.🤓
Thank you Lee! I’m enjoying making them TBH. It’s nice to be asked 😁
Wonderful song Andy, so uplifting. Thanks for sharing the chords, hope you can do a few more niche guitar tutorials 🙂
😂 thanks man! Happy to do bits and pieces on request but won’t be imposing anything without 😁

Yeah that’s so cool! I actually spotted it earlier but that’s for the tip off 🙏
@@solsticeuk All of the band's hard work and, more importantly, belief in your inspiring music is paying off. Congratulations to the band!

I love the chiming open chords, thanks Andy, will give this a go later.
Thanks Steve! Hope it’ll be easy enough to follow. It’s tricky to know how much detail to go into e.g. strumming patterns. Let me know how you get on.

Thanks Ayush! Sure, I could do Jess’s acoustic guitar part which covers all the chords for the song. Watch this space 😁
