      What’s woo woo mean?

    • @Violaceous7
      @Violaceous7 4 года назад +15

      Andrew Ikhelson I’m assuming she means meditations focused on spirituality/the universe/Mother Earth type associations. As someone who DOES practice meditations such as these I do often get called “woo woo” (which I take no offense to, I don’t really care).

      woo woo means wyte

    • @Violaceous7
      @Violaceous7 4 года назад +7

      Andrew Ikhelson Absolutely! The actual definition of the term is, “relating to or holding unconventional beliefs regarded as having little or no scientific basis, especially those relating to spirituality, mysticism, or alternative medicine”. Hope that helps!!!

    This is how we develop, strengthen, root and ground ourselves in our breath, mind, & body and in the present moment.
    Return to the breath, observe thoughts AND feelings, and without judging them, let them go, bringing the attention back to the breath.
    Truly amazing!
    Great reminders!!
    And yes, I too love how she guides us!

    I’ve been doing this for two things since I was young, and I’m an 89 behbeh. One for getting rid of weird morning headaches while focusing on one area of the ceiling with my back and neck in the right way, and the other for hiccups. If you guys get hiccups you “can’t get rid of”, stop and go to a quiet room and focus on your breath. Almost like your trying to trick yourself when a hiccup comes. Don’t let the hiccup come. Breathe so deliberately and carefully that you block that stupid hiccup. Youll realize after a little bit of doing this that your hiccup burst has subsided and you’ll come back to reality and they aren’t there. I make friends do this when they’re drinking and it works. Really feel every breath and focus on the in and the out and do it deeply until you fell it coming then change your breathing.Those stupid ass hiccups will go eff themselves in no time. It’s all in concentrating on breath and relaxing. Duh Morty, didn’t They teach you that in school.

    The beginning sounds like you are overtly provoking anxiety...
    "You are probably lying there rehashing all the arguments of the past week while imagining your entire family is trapped in a burning building...
    Now relax ..."

    • @tamaraharris7647
      @tamaraharris7647 4 года назад +10

      Kurt Klingbeil I totally hear what you’re saying but I think the idea of that part of the meditation is preparation for resistance from the mind during meditation (i.e. notice the thoughts and refocus on the breath). I agree - it is difficult not to notice/respond to the actual content of the thoughts... this is super challenging for me too, especially when I am feeling triggered by anxiety 🙏🌿

      If somebody gets nervous at the begining of a meditation or yoga practice, maybe is because he begins being aware of himself and his bullshit. Keep practicing, get used to that bullshit, the cleaning proces beggins.
      Many of us say, meditating gets me nervous, but in fact we are begining to be aware of how nervous we had been all the time.
      As a teacher I did this in class, a few get very annoyed at the beggining but had great benefit after some practice. Some even shake in the chair.

    Should I breathe normally or in through nose out through mouth? I’ve been meditating for many months now using the nose/mouth but have to control my breathing to do so. Recently I’ve questioned if I’m doing it right so I’ve been doing some research and some people say breathe normally (which for me is through my nose) and just pay attention to it, or the tip of my nose or something. Either way I find it hard to watch without controlling, but now that I’m trying the normal breathing, I keep falling asleep. Any advice?
    Also - When people say pay attention to the sensations like the feeling or air going through my nose, should I only focus on one sensation or all sensations? I ask because it seems like if I’m going from paying attention to my chest, to my stomach, to my nose, to my throat, to my upper lip, etc. that I’m just allowing my mind to wander.

      I think that body jerking and heartbeat rhythm are clear indicators of how much your body is vibrating constantly at all times, and in this meditative state your body is not used to breathing such a calm way, it is foreign.
      The point of breathing rhythmically like this, is like tuning a guitar, and your body is the guitar, and your many organs are the strings. I try to think of my favorite things when I meditate, I use my breathing like a thing to gaze at like the floating dust by the window on a sunny morning, and simply think. I watch my thoughts like a little person watching a movie, and I try to not judge the movie, because that movie is my life, I simply want to keep watching without any distraction!:)
      Hope that helps your understanding of why meditation helps people. Some just need to tune more strings, and it can be quite uncomfortable at times, because of how out of tune you may be.
      But just give yourself to it, it will be so worth it in the end
