This is pure aviation bliss! I'm at a loss for words! Big thanks, brother, for treating us to this breathtaking spectacle; it's etched in my memory forever!
Such a mesmerizing video thank you so much for sharing. How confident you are with your gear and especially with your battery. Flying with battery alarm on, more than half of the flight, its incredible.
Thanks! I have the low battery warning come on early so that it becomes a constant reminder that I am more than 1/2 way through my battery. Since I flew up a mountain it almost always takes less energy to get home than to get up there. If I was flying on flat ground I would have to turn back at 50% through the battery at the most.
So good! The view at the top was ridiculous and the return was really fun. I'm quite envious of where you get to fly, but I'm gonna have to start doing trips the mountains at some point.

Your 8KM from home video inspired me to take the plunge into long range, only wish i had looked at the links below the video before i ordered parts :[ i ordered Axll DUO and Foxeer pagoda pro 15cm, same rec you're using and tbs pro32 vtx. Hope that gets some range for me, for now I'll have to settle for my 6" badger frame but later will come back and use the links from your video to get frame motors and possibly stack as well as batteries. Upgrading to the Spektrum NX10 to make use of my crossfire lite TX tapped me pretty good on hobby funds lol. Thank you for the great videos!
That's great your getting into long range! The pro 32 vtx was really good before I lost the quad I put mine in. I had issue's getting smart audio to work though. You'll also need at least one high gain (10dbi or more, I use 13 dbi X2-air) directional antenna to get more than 2 or 3 km out. Good luck!
Thanks! Ya flat snow or with soft rises in it can be hard to see little elevation changes. I never get down too close in open snow areas. Much easier when there's some rocks mixed in for sure.

The nice thing about winter is that golden hour is so much earlier :) I often have problems seeing the ground when I've over pure white snow - it's almost like still water - I can't tell if I'm 30 ft above the snow or 3 inches :)
For sure, winter time I get home from long range outings way earlier! It's so hard to see if there is a hump in the ground coming up. I never get too low down over open snow areas with no rocks. Thanks for commenting!
Oh you should check out my very first video "Freedom Flyer". Ultimate canyon shot. Not as polished as my latest ones but one of my personal favorites. (has my first epic dive and first long range gap)
Sick flight. I would of started the video at 5:58 to like 6:10 and played that dive right at the beginning. Then show the whole flight/parts like you did. My 2 cents 👌
Yes great idea. I always over think video changes and things to try and then get stuck worrying about what to do and how to do it. So I've ended up in this certain style of video that I am comfortable making. I should try and make some changes though and your suggestion is a very good one. Thanks for your comment!
WOW... ok 1 where?? This looks majestic...very epic spot... 2 long range... how did you even make it back??? Gravity?? That's some skilled flying and planning... 3 what the heck are you using... it's not DJI... that's insane

Thank you very much for the offer. I actually live just a couple hours drive from CNC madness who has cut a few frames for me. My new issue is getting version 2 finished being designed. I keep going in circles trying to learn fusion 360 for some reason. I used to find stuff like this a lot easier. I made the first version (that I use now) in tinkercad but it's frustratingly simplistic, so easy to use but also quite limited. Any chance you can help out with the design side of things? I have the V1 files but no idea how to convert them to fusion compatible files. If I could transfer my model to fusion 360 I could probably figure out how to make the changes I want. Maybe I can save my tinkercad design as a 2d file and import it into fusion 360 as a sketch?
Thank you very much. I'm building a new quad soon after I get version 2 of my frame finished up. I'll be doing a video about building that new quad and more about getting it setup and ready to go long distances reliably.
Well I'm going to join you and be jealous of myself as well, for the next 3 months until enough snow melts that my truck can make it down those logging roads again. But then your on your own again my friend, lol. Happy flying.
What is your fpv set up and drone. I'm skeptical to buy something that cant do that type of range. Great work making that back to the landing pad 10 out of 10. Thanks.
To be honest I am planning on buying some new motors and esc's and doing some more testing. I don't think I have an optimal setup, it works but not as well as it could if I invest some more time into testing. I haven't wanted to change anything since its working well and is my only good long range quad. I'll be starting a new build for more experimental long range flights. I'm pretty sure the 28 size stator is the biggest issue when using li-ion. Also really want to try some 4s testing. I've been sticking to 6s since the voltage on li-ion gets so low and amperage goes down at higher voltages. But I think 4s is more efficent due to getting more amps at a lower wattage. I'm pretty sure I got better range with my 2508 1200 kv motors but I lost that quad after just a couple of flights with its new 7" arms.
Loving your videos, I don't have epic landscapes to surf, but am looking forward to long range. My 7 inch drone is nearly LR ready, just need some crossfire any day now.
@FalconRad FPV - genius!! really admire the long distance flying that you do. How long did it take from your starting to fly drones to long range flights like this? How many drones have you lost on long distance missions? Any advice for people who want to fly long?
Thank you. I flew planes for 2 years then moved on to quads and been flying them for 5 years maybe 6.... I started way back when they really sucked, f1 chips with open pilot firmware, lol. after 6 months I got overly frustrated and gave up for 6 months. Then got more into it the second year. I've only been flying long range for 2 years though. I've lost 1 due to some kind of gps or firmware issue. No crash's over 2 years of long range, more close calls than I could list though, at least 10 or 12. Lucky I guess. Advice would be take it slow, work up to it. Test lots, tune as well as you can, research esc settings like the best timing to avoid desync's (i THINK it's 23 degree's). Learn your batteries, exactly how many hah you, get consistently after calibrating and confirming with the mah count from your charger. (so you have to start with a full pack use it up remember what you quad said for mah use. Then charge it fully and compare the number from the quad with the charger, calibrate accordingly. Get this as close as you can. I could write so much more. You can find bits and pieces in my videos that are about failsafes or video loss as well as the comments, I answer every question. Good luck!
3 days ago I was 4 km out on a Mountain and that was the limit what a Lipo can do. Great Flight in the video. Would like to fly with you! Amazing landscape
Hi again, you had asked about it before right? Sorry been doing many video's I haven't finished the V2 frame yet. I'm struggling a bit. I can't quite get an understanding of fusion 360 there is something I'm not getting. But also only watched a few online instructional videos. I originally made the first frame in the very basic tinkercad but it's really limiting and tedious to model a precise quad frame with. CNC madness does offer drafting services but I'm having trouble affording new quad parts as well so.... I'm still using old DYS f4 pro v2 flight controllers on both my long range quads, 2+ year old pre-used esc's on one and the cheapest 4in1 esc I could buy on the other. I'm going to try and upgrade that stuff before the budget / old used parts cost me a losing a quad. I might be able to struggle my way through it the tinkercad way but I find it frustrating and can only do little bits at a time. I really appreciate your interest in my frame and apologize for the always changing estimate of getting it done. I've been wondering about trying to find someone who knows fusion 360 to give me a hand but, how do I ask somebody if they will do a bunch of free work for me? I guess I could get you an original version cut but, it has some minor vibration issues and requires a few holes to be drilled out by hand. Getting 7mm arms may help the vibrations, but it could be from the frame and not the arms. If your still interested leave me a message on the discussion tab of my youtube home page. That way it won't get lost in dozen's of video comments.
@@FalconRadFPV hi again and thanks for the detailed reply. It really is not a problem and anytime you get it done is fine.. I just know that without getting a good frame firstly and of course a good tune even with any stabilisation..i still prefer a good frame to start with..and looking at your videos with the proven setup and equipment..is really spectacular..will keep looking out for it..and glad you remembered my interest from before..Dan
No never. My only loss was due to a gps and FC malfuction, lost a quad and hero 6. I did hit a branch once but it wasn't an issue. I'm quite proud of the fact that I have flown over 1000 km of long range fpv this year, almost that much last year and never had a crash. Despite flying inside forests (video-Waterfall hunting) and having near crash experiences on really sketchy peaks (video-sketch factor 9), and just generally flying as close as possible to the ground. I did crash into a river once (video-river's edge to icy peak) but technically it was a controlled emergency landing 😉 due to the battery running out over a river 100 meters before I made it home after a 13 km flight. BUT I've gotten lucky so many times I've actually contemplated how it's even possible. I think it might have something to do with amount of practice that I've had.
Thanks so much for your comment! Oh you recognize it from some other videos. I've done about 40 or 50 flights on this mountain that I never made videos out of. I could probably fly parts of it blind folded, lol. This is the one I learned all about long range on, it's kind of special to me.
Thanks for the comment. I'll be making some video's about flight planning and maybe a narrated walk through of the process I go through to do a flight. I'm just finishing a new frame design, then will do some sort of a build video, then setup video's then the flight planning and tips. So it might be a couple of months till I get that far along. For now I'll say, take it slow! Doing huge long flights like this took me a LOT of practice to get confident and comfortable. It seems simple but the hardest part is just keeping video strong all the time and not losing video behind a ridge or trees when you aren't expecting it. My first flight is an easy fly around close in warmup and I'll always test my gps rescue function at this time. You want to make SURE you have that and failsafe (also set to gps rescue) working flawlessly before going more than 500 meters away. Good luck!
That's what I've been waitin' for: winter! I wish I had a fire & a fire stoker when I'm in the backcountry winter flying! Did you wear gloves? I've got Reynaud's so my fingers get cold quick & easy & I'm always loosing feeling in my fingers when flying long winter flights. I sometimes use my thick heated gloves but then flying isn't great & landing's are sketchier than they already are. I even smeared Cramer's Red Hot on my fingers & hands in order to use thinner gloves! It works, kind-of ... sometimes.
My fingers get numb quite easily. The fire is the only way I was able to do my last few flights. I'm also wearing thin work gloves with good grip. I've started getting used to flying with them. Also sometimes put the heat pack things in my gloves and move them to the back of my hand while flying. Happy holidays my friend!
@@FalconRadFPV There are a bunch of good ski/snowboard liner type gloves that work really well, I use the North Face ones & they're pretty warm. www.backcountry.com/mens-glove-liners
So confused how you get battery performance like that...cold weather I thought makes battery performance bad, plus how come volt is so low and LQ is zero...has a noob like me scratching my head lol. What goggle setup are you using....directional patch antennas I'd guess.
LQ just wasn't setup properly. My battery voltage goes that low because I'm using li-ion cells in my battery packs. Yes I use to high gain directional antennas.
Nice flight. On my TV, your videos only run at 720p (its a 4K, but RUclips only plays at 1080p max). Then I see only PC, your video will play at 4K. There must be some sampling issue with the TV.
I've noticed strange things about the resolution as well. I only have a 1080p monitor 😂 so I watched RUclips videos at 1080p. Little did I know that somehow the videos look WAY BETTER (including my own!) if I select to use 4k res on my 1080p monitor?! I record everything at 2.7k then output from premiere pro upscaled to 4k. I wish I knew what my video's looked like on a UHD screen, lol.
@@FalconRadFPV I'm sure they look great. I bought the TV to watch stuff in 4K, but the USB input doesn't support many 4K formats and the RUclips app doesn't either.

I just know that without getting a good frame firstly and of course a good tune even with any stabilisation..i still prefer a good frame to start with..and looking at your videos with the proven setup and equipment..is really spectacular..will keep looking out for it..and glad you remembered my interest from before..Dan
Great work.. some bts footage would be much appreciated 😍✌️👍
Will do soon
Have you ever crashed a drone during a long range flight?
Awesome Video!!!!
I think it might have something to do with amount of practice that I've had.
this spot is your house.....fantastic
Thanks so much for your comment! Oh you recognize it from some other videos. I've done about 40 or 50 flights on this mountain that I never made videos out of. I could probably fly parts of it blind folded, lol. This is the one I learned all about long range on, it's kind of special to me.
Hey super grate video! I really want to get into long range as well. Do you have any tips on what to do or not to do?
Good luck!
@@FalconRadFPV thanks oh and one more question will you make a video about how you can have such good Fpv video link beaceuse I strugle vit it a lott
That's what its all about fucking awsome
Thank you very much!
@@FalconRadFPV Oh yeah, I use the heat packs in my palms! Praise God!
@@FalconRadFPV I think it might be the 60fps. My TV does fine with 1080p/30fps.
Sweet!!!!
Glad you liked it!
