- A video for the lyrics of "War", second song on the album "Twilight Theater" by Poets of the Fall. These are the correct lyrics, considering the fact I've taken them from the booklet that comes with the CD. But typos from my side are always possible, of course.
Disclaimer: I do not own the music or the lyrics. I just put the both together.

Found this extremely underrated band thanks to the extremely underrated game Alan Wake.

2023. after the sequel was announced to release later this year, I decided to give the game a try. glad I did.
11 years ago. Up all night playing AW1. Nearing the end. Find a warehouse. See radio turn it on. War beings to play. Enemies come. Time to dance! Unforgettable!
This music is perfect. I have heard it more than 200 times and its still as good as tge first time - no wrong tune, no breaking voice, no unfitting fillings like yeah or baby... Simple perfection. Still my very favorite song by potf, and there are so many.

Still playing this in 2020! I recently played Alan Wake with my b/f, and when this came on I lost it! I had no clue that they had music in the game, but it reignited the love I have for them!

The fiery ground licking your boots, you limp towards him, afflicted by the injuries suffered over the years of searching for this demon. You deftly draw your sword with a small grunt of pain. Afflicted but ultimately indominated. "Heiman! I have come for you!"
He closes his eyes in resignation. He remains impassive, his back still turned. A gust of smoke and fire kicks up. He looks over his shoulder simply and speaks. "So you've come brother. What hope have you brought to fend off your demise? God stands with me. What god has your back?"
The words echo for a time in the wind.
With your eyes red from the smoke, and the fire rising all around you, you say one final thing before ending it all. "No gods here. I stand on my own."
Don't know why but this is what jumped into my mind after giving this a listen.

Like many others, I found this band because of Alan Wake. Playing the game, I just had to listen to this whole song. Such a good band and such a good game.

@@chrismaverick9828 Fun Fact: The song "Late Goodbye" by Poets of the Fall was based on a poem written by Sam Lake, who is the face model behind the first Max Payne as well as the lead writer for Max Payne 1, 2, and Alan Wake.
Marko Saaresto, the co-founder, lead vocalist, and primary songwriter of the band happened to be good friends with Sam Lake, and that's how the song came to be created.

This song would be really good if only the chorus had either more punch to it to go for a bigger impact, or less punch to it to go for a quieter, more intimate impression. As it is now, it sounds bland, unfinished. Which is a shame, because the verses are handled so nicely. Good potential here, but unfulfilled.
And so, the search for a POTF song as good as "Carnival of Rust" continues... In their defense though, I've only recently started searching through their songs, so I haven't been through too many just yet. Any recommendations, POTF fans? Or, better yet, which album(s) would you say is their best? I've already listened to the Carnival of Rust album and was left mostly underwhelmed, so I'd prefer pointers to any others.

I agree with you gaaraanime5, lyrics are good, but the performance(vocals) are just.... That doesn't fit the song. But on the other hand chorus would be great if it was a song about love. When the vocal in the chorus meets the vocal performance it seems... gay. But anyway it's kinda still good song.

I think you slightly misunderstand, that line (as far as I know) was adapted for the game Alan Wake, wherein the "Darkness" is actually an entity. It takes on the appearance of the poets lost muse (his girlfriend/wife). That is why Jack said that the darkness wears her face. =) Poetic right? ^^
