He said that as they are right now, they can produce music however they want, and not be forced to follow mainstream music production. < That's not exactly what he said, but he wanted to be free to produce the kind of music he likes. Poets of the Fall is a band that could be listened to for hours... deep into the night. Wonderful meaningful music! I came across their music just a couple of years back (POTF is not so well known in India) and have been in love with what they create ever since.
Listening for hours into the night is just what I'm doing....love these guys...
This band is my newfound love. Can't stop listening.

"Fall like a leaf in the wind, on the ocean of blue like your eyes, in the twilight theatre, where symphonies play in a world without sound. We're given and denied". I think this chorus talks about how the world around a child falls on their life, squashing every God, Santa Claus, Tooth Fairy, romantic, inspirational, and any other unrealistic dream they have. The twilight theatre is the human mind, where symphonies of thoughts play in a world that can't hear or see the imagination behind the eyes. The song is about capturing the imagination that fills the void of the unknown when we are kids - something we can never go back to, the more we learn about life. "Given and denied" describes the gift of life, slowly disillusioned by reality. We're given the gift of magic, and denied that magical childhood so shortly thereafter.

I think the Twilight Theater is the end of all things in our past. Twilight is symbol of the end of something. The Theater is where we go to watch something. So, the Twilight Theater is where we go to watch something we loved or had end.

it's better this way. we know them, we appreciate them, and we try to show others the beauty that lies inside this band's songs. from my own experience of searching for good music, I've never found unique music like in the top of the charts. they are hidden. and that's how they have to be. peace , love, and enjoy the magic :) !

Victor Mitroi That's exactly what happened to Epica. One of the most prominent Symphonic Metal bands. Then they started to sell records, change band members and all that is left is the memory of an excellent band and their first records. although of a different genre, POTF, like that old Epica, is one of those few bands that really make poetry become music, and that's invaluable!!

I'm not saying the other albums are shit but...Twilight Theater knocked every previous album of theirs and the ones after completely out of the park and saying that after Revolution Roulette says so much. If Twilight Theater is not one of the best albums ever recorded, its only real competition is a handful of other albums.
I agree, Twilight Theater is my joint favorite album of theirs (along with Signs of Life).

You misunderstood the context of my remark. There were a lot of people complaining that their images are being used and somewhat exploited by this video and it was those folks who needed taking off their high horses. While images are good it is the music that people come here for, not the images. If the images were not in the video we would still be here for the music but we would not be looking for the images without the music. I think I summed it up by saying the two together are great.

why do I listen to this? I'm 21. people my age tend to listen to bad pop music like lady gaga, miley cyrus and Justin bieber or the other shit that is played in mainstream radio. I guess I'm just different. thank god I'm different.
Because people who listen the artists you mentioned, are sheep who haven't developed their own taste in music.
Crediting doesn't work around copyright laws either, as it is still theft because no permission was obtained. I did a post about it on my dA, absentmindedgenis in the journal. I'd recommend looking at it, as it provides links to copyright laws summaries for images on the internet.

@GARGANTUANMASKEDFISH Last time I checked, making a public production, like a YT video, with artwork taken without permission is illegal, but I don't think the artists can sue if the video wasn't made for monetary gain. Can have the video forcefully taken down, but most people will just ask to be credited, so.

I guess it serves the band well that they are not massively popular else they will be under constant pessure from record labels to churn out albums according to a schedule. Look at what has happened to Coldplay. As much as i love the band, their recent music cannot compare to what they used to produce in their early years. Parlophone albeit isnt a Sony or an EMI but its not doing Coldplay any real good. Insomniac on the other hand is unencumbered with such demands by virtue of being independent and run by the band itself, allowing them the creative liberty to both experiment with their sound while staying true to their roots. This makes their music so enduring ! They have enough to sustain their craft and love and adoration of multitudes of loyal fans that will keep them inspired. Maybe they do aspire for wider fame and recognition but i guess somewhere deep down they have made a consious decision to not get associated with any cookie cutter record label and safeguard their artistic intellect. Cause i am damn sure everybody must have wanted a piece of that pie when CoR became the phenomena it became.

The first thought that came to me when I first listened to this beautiful song was the book series by Patric Rothfuss The King Killer Chronicles, and I thought to myself this would be the perfect song for Kvoth to play.

I agree though, asking nicely is the way to go, but if your work is popular and commonly stolen or used without permission or credit given, and/or someone else takes credit for it, you may be at the end if your rope. PotF had to be credit for the song. IMO, all the pictures used in a video should at least be credit to the artist, or not used at all.

This is an effort I like to be put in a fan music video of this sort. Not the effortless upload of songs from their latest albums, inflation of minimum 5 uploads of a same song for the sake of upload and gathering video view. Again, a job well done 2810vas =D which is funny cause when I opened this video it was 28th October 2012, then I got hooked to a TV and that led to another thing and midnight passed. lol :)))
Oh and sorry, the first moment I mistook you for someone else... It changes the way I think slightly but the essence of what I was saying stays the same. Usually I'm a bit nicer to someone I don't know at all and not that harsh. Probably wouldn't have said the last sentence if I hadn't mistook you, just so you know. If you want to continue attacking me for no real reason: GO FOR IT BOY! Yaaaaaay xD
So you say, you wouldn't do this if you had made this photography? A german band used this for their CD Cover, they advertise with this picture. And that's why it was not just about me, when I "was bickering on the ownership" of that photo. This piture directly transfers to this band. Would you want your CD Cover to be seen somewhere else? A cover you paid for to use it? Wouldn't this make you unhappy? Seeing somebody use it, without permission and without paying for it?

Entirely seriously, this video has pirated images, whether intentional piracy or no, which have been taken without permission. Under U.S. Copyright laws, the web production of images is the same as if the work was printed. This also protects foreign works. If an owner of one of these images requests this video be taken down, it should be, as legal sanctions can include fine of up to 150,000$ per violated image.
I don't do any videos, but for sure, I have a lot of pictures too and I really don't remember the artist of all of them. If you don't want the pictures to be seen, don't take them to the internet. And if somebody use your art without any bad intention, without point to the name of the artist - sorry but I don't really care who did them - the better reaction would be to talk to the person nicely, not to treat him like a war criminal.
Amazing Song! But I have to say, I really had to laugh, because the first I read was this discussion about the artist of the pictures. Couldn't even pay attention to the vid. To be honest, I think this whole "bahhh these are my pictures" is silly. An artist who is pissed of, because someone else use his/her pictures to make a video about a song of another artist. Why he/she even had been here? Isn't it wrong too, to listen to a video made with the musical artwork from someone else?
I would just recommend a disclaimer for the pictures otherwise you're mooving on very thin ice...unfortunatly. I mean it was pure coincidence I've seen my picture and that POTF is one of my favorite bands. If I can find my pic here the other artits may find theirs too ...and if someone feels really really offendet by it you might get into trouble. My youtube name and deviant ID are identical by the way...well just disclaim that the pics are yours and you're safe =)
@k19l Copyright laws still have precidence on the net. I have read the creative commons copyright laws, and original images, even if not explicitly stated, are illegal to use publicly with out the owners permission. iIf an image is posted on dA, it is automatically put under creative commons. It doesn't stop people from STEALING, i.e., taking w/o permission.
Pictures for personal use is okay. However, taking them for a public video, like this, without crediting the artists is very offensive and downright rude, speaking from a perspective where my own artworks has been stolen before. Not to mention, under Copyright laws, it is very illegal, and can cost the uploader thousands in fines, should someone wish to press charges.
@Jagshemasher That's rude to the artists who probably spent more than six hours on each of the images. Saying they're nothing... that's as bad as saying the song is nothing without the images. It makes a great combination, but each of the pieces are brilliant in their own way.

Great collection of images put to the music . . . . pity so much legal bs around when there is no intention to profit (or deprive others of profit) from the work. Individually the images are nothingl. Taken collectively with the music they are great.
I'm pretty sure it's not illegal yet unless the uploader decides to try and make money off the images.
