Thanks for the video man! I have one minor comment "oil resistant" means that the sole will not deterioriate when exposed to oils such as motor oil or hydraulic oil. It isn't about traction. I had a pair of mechanic's boots (I can't remember the brand) that had a nice leather upper but the sole was not an oil resistant rubber. I stepped in a puddle of motor oil and a few months later the sole of the left boot had deteriorated into a gummy mess. Oil is a lubricant. You will be hard pressed to find any sole that will provide traction on an oily floor. Also, in regards to the wedge sole and appearance. For some the utility outweighs appearance. They work better than heels for ladder work, and as a structural steel worker catching a heel could potentially kill me while walking beams. I hated how they looked when I bought my first pair of wedges but they have grown on me. If you don't like the white wedge sole look, Thorogood makes a black moc toe with a black wedge sole (heritage midnight series) that looks really good. The vamp is short and doesn't look so much like a clown shoe, as well. Once again, great rundown on common footwear soles.
My experience - Walking down a city sidewalk, in slushy, icy, or even muddy conditions, the Daintes are fine. As you walk into the wet/oily marble lobby of a building - sudden death as you slip and crack your head. Substitute the Eton (look a like) and its the opposite - slushy/snowy/muddy the the grip is not so good, walk into a marble floor of a building and no slip. This comes down to the "nobs/spikes" and the hardness of the rubber. Dainties the nobs stick out and the rubber is hard - like walking on golf shoes. On the Eton the nobs are recessed and the rubber is soft.
Great comparison. Not a common one but the Parkhurst Richmond has a Ridgeway sole which I really like as a balance between the Dainite and the Commando

Thank you for the video, what brand of boots are the ones with the commando outsoles?
They are Viberg service boots (Tan Taurus Roughout).
I’ve got a video posted of them if you’re looking for a bit more information 🍻
Have you seen my report card?
