The more I listen to this, the more I like it! It really is infectious, and everyone is having so much fun! In my earlier comment I forgot to give kudos to Joan Monné, who once again has proven himself to be a masterful arranger. I don't want the band to play less of the traditional jazz standards, but I would like them to do more pieces like this. Maybe now that the covid situation is easing they can find time to do both?
Most of us know this song as a big hit for Aretha Franklin, but it was actually first recorded by Ben E. King. One of the most interesting bits about it is that it was written by the team of King's wife (Betty Nelson), and Ahmet Ertegun. Ertegun was a fascinating guy, who not only founded and was president of Atlantic Records, but also was chairman of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. And he somehow also found time to write a number of hit songs. This is an intriguing selection for the band, and I suspect that Joana had something to do with it. She seems to have an in-depth knowledge of American pop music of the 70's and 80's, and has played a key role in bringing a number of tunes from that era back to life in "jazzified" versions. I thought her singing was excellent here, as well as the backup vocals, and all of the solos. A fun piece to both watch and listen to!
Excellent history breakdown. I love it when the band does huge choirs. These people are all horn-playing sight singers and so they can hold their note assignments and sign loud. Their last big choir outing I can recall was "Mood Indigo" with Casanova at the helm. That choir sounded like the Beach Boys. The piano opening lick and kick drum on this number was haunting -- an instant hook (It reminded me of "The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down"). You got piano, bass, and drum and voice, very sparse. The players are added bit by bit until the choir, and horns, and the singer is exploding in unison. Tidings of power and joy!
@@davidbradley1367 Thanks, and I agree with you. I thought Pablo's drum work here was excellent, I remember noticing it the second time I listened to it. (the first time I was too amazed and fascinated by the whole performance!)
Really listening to the Joan Chamorro Band, I have become addicted to his Music, Songs, Interpreters, Great means, that the Chamorro Director knows our tastes in Good Music, which transcends, my regards
We love your music. My husband and I listen to our favorite songs/ videos on the weekends. We call it going to the Joan Chamorro concert in our home. We enjoyed this video - the young musicians and singers did a great job.
Outstanding! The use of those beautiful voices in addition to the amazing Joana Casanova was a stroke of genius. I can't get enough of this number. Great work by all.
besides the beautiful angel Joan Casanova with a serious voice while the handsome little playboy relaxed and enjoyed singing, waving his body hahaha, but I'm sure he will be a famous musician later, amen
Nicely done guys! Upbeat and fun. What a group of talented musicians. More of this arrangement please Mr. Chamorro. Watching and listening from Orange Park, Florida, USA.
Gracias Maestro.
I'm glad to see new faces. It will be interesting & exciting to see & hear the new kids as they develop their musicianship. We'll all be guessing which ones will become stars or just simply solid musicians.
When I see all the different parts of this, everyone doing their own thing--and then I sit back and see how wonderfully it all fits together, I have to say 'Just another great piece by 'Joan Chamorro's Musical Flying Circus!'.
I love to see kids singing 😊
Aretha is smiling and singing along! Wonderful lead vocal by Joana, and the whole crew does a great job.
This is really Ben E. King’s song. He made it a hit, long before Aretha.
Joan Mar Sauqué on trumpet is so good! Love his playing.
Humorous, upbeat, just made for the. delightful Joana . She swings with the best Bill Burrows
fabulous soulful vocals by a young lady from Barcelona who sounds like she grew up in Motown!
Look how the young kids are enjoying this, much respect to the maestro Joan for bringing new talent to the forefront.
SAJB and guests at their very best! 2020 was a very good year!
Wao, maravilloso ver éste talentoso grupo de jóvenes. @joanacasanova simplemente grandiosa! 🎼💕🎵🎙
You have nailed it Joana! If Aretha Franklin was still alive she would agree 👍👏
Wow so much young talent!. Great music bravo!
Queen Aretha would be pleased with this performance! 👏👏👏
Gran cantante Joana Casanova, Saúdos para Èlia Bastida.

I envy them for the enjoyment they share in each others playing, and to be a part of it all.
