Una gran fiesta, sí, es lo que fue el concierto del Palau de la Música el día 10 de diciembre de
2021 en el marco del Festival de Jazz de Barcelona.
Ese año, en el que la Sant Andreu Jazz Band cumplía 15 años de vida, el festival me dedicaba el
retrato de artista, programando 5 conciertos relacionados con mi persona:
1. JOAN CHAMORRO BIG BAND PRESENTA, concierto especial con una big band formada por
aquellos músicos de la SAJB con los que he grabado un disco de presentación (canciones y
arreglos nuevos, que podemos escuchar también en el nuevo “JOAN CHAMORRO PRESENTA
BIG BAND PRESENTAS”).
2. Como sideman y productor presentando el CD “ÈLIA BASTIDA MEETS SCOTT HAMILTON”.
3. Joan Chamorro BARITONE RHAPSODY con ALBA ESTEBAN (concierto del cual salieron
algunos de los temas que forman parte dde”JOAN CHAMORRO PRESENTA ALBA ESTEBAN”).
4. Como sideman junto a ANDREA MOTIS, en el proyecto GUITAR STORM.
Y 5. El concierto de la SANT ANDREU JAZZ BAND, para celebrar sus 15 años.
Este concierto es el que tenéis en vuestras manos, en dos CD’S, porque fue un concierto
generoso musicalmente, en donde conseguimos reunir a prácticamente todos los músicos que
habían pasado por el proyecto más los que en ese momento formaban parte de él. En total, 64
músicos, más los asiduos invitados: Ignasi Terraza, Josep Traver y Esteve Pi.
Fue realmente maravilloso poder reunirnos y volver a hacer música y recrear algunos de los
temas más populares de todos estos años (además de 3 nuevas canciones que no habíamos
grabado nunca). Una jazz party por todo lo alto, en donde fue emocionante poder escuchar la
evolución de muchos de los músicos que no escuchaba desde hacía años. Muchos de ellos
tienen sus propios proyectos y tienen un papel importante en el panorama jazzístico actual.
Realmente esta grabación es muy especial, tanto emocional como musicalmente. En algunos
de los temas podemos escuchar prácticamente dos bigbands tocando a la vez, con dos
baterías, dos bajistas, dos guitarras, 10 saxos, 6 o 7 trombones, 6 o 7 trompetas, coros de más
de 10 personas, etc.
No era fácil, pero lo hicimos posible. Porque, como ya dije allá por el año 2009, en el primer
JAZZING: la Sant Andreu Jazz Band es un sueño hecho realidad. Y estamos en el 2022 (año en el
que aparece esta grabación del 2021) y seguimos soñando.
No puedo estar más que agradecido a todas las personas que hicieron posible este concierto,
empezando por el Festival de Jazz de Barcelona y el Palau de la Música. Por supuesto, a todos
los músicos que ya no formaban parte de la SAJB y que se reservaron la fecha y acudieron a la
cita con ilusión y alegrías desbordantes. También a todos los músicos actuales y a sus familias.
Aprovecho este momento de agradecimientos para extenderlo a todas aquellas personas que
hacen posible que este proyecto siga adelante. A Blanca Gallo, de Gaudiu Música, a David
Casamitjana y a Josep Roig, por las grabaciones y las mezclas, a Lili Bonmatí, por sus
maravillosas fotos durante todos estos años, a Ramon Tort por todas las grabaciones de video.
También quiero agradecer a Roman Polankik por su amabilidad al cedernos un espacio en la
Nau Bostik, para poder realizar los ensayos previos, de esta bigband mayúscula.

Imagine my total surprise to see all of these wonderful musicians who were tutored by the great Joan Chamorro putting out maximum effort in order to produce this monumental sound! Yes, comprised of all of the very young students from years past, such as the baby-like "Garrapata" (Elsa Armengou) and young "Koldo" cradled in the arms of Elia Bastida back then, and are now all grown up! This is a marvelous gathering and one can only imagine the joy in the hearts of all present for this reunion. Thank you all who made this wonderful experience possible! Maravillosa reunión. Estaban todas y todos prácticamente. Y sonando con esa vitalidad, precisón y amor por la música característicos de la SAJB. Solo he echado de menos a Alba Esteban en la primera fila de voces. Estaba, como casi siempre, a la derecha, soplando su barítono. Pero me hubiera gustado verla cantando. Es una gran intérprete de saxo, pero también tiene una dulce y bonita voz.
Mención especial al maestro Chamorro por haber sacado adelante este proyecto fabuloso por increíble. Desde aquellos días en que un grupo de "pequeñajos" tocaba ragtime en las emisoras de radio locales y daba conciertos callejeros, hasta verlos ahora convertidos en grandes artistas, el viaje ha sido increíble. Y sigue siéndolo.

Dios, tantas cosas que resaltar ... La reunión de casi la totalidad de la banda, desde su creación en 2006 hasta la actualidad, el sueño casi erótico, placer prohibido, para los fanáticos de la Sant Andreu. 64 chavales, algunos ya treintañeros hechos y derechos, representando a todas las generaciones de la Sant Andreu. Muy pocas ausencias destacables (Paula Berzal, Dani Téllez, Jan Rodríguez, Raúl Castro, Pau Galgo) y unos cuantos que dejaron la música hace años y que volvieron sólo para estar en este concierto: Joan-Aleix Mata (al que está claro que no se le ha olvidado ni un ápice tocar la batería), su hermana Irene, Helena Pañart, Iván Cervantes, Marc Ferrer, Paula Esteban (hermana de Alba)... Y muchos quizá poco recordados ya, que volaron solos y siguen buscándose la vida como músicos, con más o menos éxito: la gran Irene Reig, Eva Garín, los hermanos Jaume y Edu Ferrer, Iscle Datzira, Miranda Fernández, Pablo Fernández, Martí Ibáñez ... Y las grandes figuras, claro: Andrea, Eva, Magalí, las Albas, Rita, Elia, Carla, Joana, Abril, entre ellas, con Martí, Marc, Doménech, Perramón, Sauqué, Juliá, entre ellos ... Y la nueva generación que ha tomado el relevo: Elsa, Koldo, Víctor, Claudia, Martha, los hermanos Peñaranda ... Y los maestros, casi padres, que siempre han colaborado con la banda desde el principio: Terraza, Traver y Pi.
Montones de solos, todas las grandes voces femeninas, gente de la que no sabíamos nada hace mucho ... Glorioso, monumental, casi irrepetible. ¿Habrá que esperar al 30º aniversario para verlo otra vez? Me apunto desde ya mismo ...
Wow! Wow! Wow! Me da tanto placer que alguien conozca a todo el talento de esta sensacional orquesta! Conozco a todas las talentosas chicas pero pero no a toda la banda! 😀😁. Just awesome! I now have to listen to many Jack Benny shows to find the most complicated Big Band arrangements of all. These are done by Phil Harris's band but he surely did not write the score's. God Bless who ever is writing your scores... Cheer's from tidewater Maryland.
