    Using gulf wax and other waxes do the job keeping the rust away when it's in the kydex sheath. I heat up the blade with a heat gun then massage that wax into the metal.

    glad I stumbled across this video. Been trying to figure how to etch magnacut for a min at the shop. never thought to leave it in for an hour. Had had issues with heat spots due to the heat treat and hot spot from the flat grinder. Going to give this a try later on in the week

    Thanks for putting this out. I’ve been messing around with the acid finish on stainless and haven’t gotten it right yet. Gonna try this out asap!

    You're the man Matt! I have had success on stainless in the past, but had one go very poorly last week, time to look at changing my process a little.

    Love to see you and tyrell knifeworks releasing the exact same video. Makes it super easy to compare and contrast methods, as well as single out parts that apply to my process

      Is his process similar to mine?

    • @FfUbeamz
      @FfUbeamz Год назад +1

      @gentrycustomknives8008 exactly the same except he coats the blades in mineral oil after cleaning the acid off. The mineral oil helps the dark oxides stay on the knife. Tyrrell seems to get a bit darker finish but he also has some issues with consistent tone across the surface

    Great video Matt! I’ve learned so much from your content. Do you have a video on how you shape and sand the scales on a stonewashed blade?

    Awesome new workshop, I really like those wooden walls ! Could you perhaps make a video on non-poisonous stone wash finishes, for knives that get into contact with foods, like for chef knives etc. ?

    Mat great job as always. I have the same tumbler it’s was well worth the money especially with 25 percent off coupon lol. I built a dolly to put it on and I roll it outside the shop because it’s loud…lol

    If you want it darker i sand blast mine before etch and after etch neutralize is then coat in oil and let it sit a couple hours for the carbides to set. Then tumble. You get a darker finish when its sand blasted

    If I wanted blk handle metal on a full tang blade so it would blend into blk handle scales how do I get it .
    Then I guess the issue would be how to get the handle scales all formed without filling any of the black off.

      Depends on what steel you’re using, if high carbon you can try gun bluing on a qtip, if stainless it’s a little more tricky

    Great video! Do you usually do this process before or after heat treating the blade ?

  • @ECK26

    Would you need to treat it like a carbon steel knife and keep it dry after etching to avoid rusting?
