This explanation was dope. So many makers on yt jump straight from first etch to finished product. Thanks for this Neil
This is the kind of content ive been wait for from Neil. Ready to see how far you go.
Excellent !
Nice custom work. Etching is fantastic. Thanks for the vid.
Thanks for this video bro. Im the same way I have to see the technique instead of learning the lingo or reading it. This helped me alot!!
definitely helping me, brother!! Thank you!!
Great film. Nice info and well presented . Thanks
I came for knives and left with valuable information about off grid living. LOVE IT.
Im also looking to use coffee as a stain on my counter tops. This is dope.
What a beautiful fucking blade. I appreciate everything about Neil's creations.

We are working on a sharpening video. Stay tuned!
Thanks for sharing, Neil!! “Boot State Forge”
Great info, really enjoyed watching your process. I like the fact that you don’t have the pompous attitude that some of these guys display. You’re very “down to earth” and genuine. Thanks!
I can't wait to get the point where I can use this information. This winter I am going to start smashing metal with a hammer and get the ball rolling.
first time watching your video, i just started making knife 3 year ago, very inspiring very very cool Neil, ill try that coffee etching, gonna see more ..
Yeaaaa now you are on RUclips too .Thanks for sharing!
Dude is a stud! Blade on!
You are so humble man you're lowballing...
Ofc you shouldn't become cocky but my man you have serious skills.
Thank you for sharing the info and the peek into your world!
I have done some etching before that was ok. Thanks for posting this because I know I'll be able to get a much more stunning result.
A really nice piece. I don't smith any more (to old, fat and knacked), but watching I did learn some thing new, it was using coffee. Who says you can't teach a old dog new tricks! 😆Thank you for the video.
Fred Meyer's "Smart Way Instant Coffee" works well, and comes out super black!
Thanks for explaining it. I am going to have to try it...after i figure out how to do damascus again as I have been focused on Monosteel the last 3 years.😅+🤔i am not a chemist, but it's actually likely that Floried interferes with Ferric chloride as a form of Chlorine is used for in ferric chloride. However, its also has mineral content, which can cause scratches or even streaking (from experience as my current ferric chloride is from tap water... because no one explained it to me when I started 7 years ago...and it still works fine for what I use it for, so I have yet to change it out) what makes coffee work is its weak acid content. It colors 1080 differently than FC because it's a different type of etchant.
Love your content! Been learning to make knivesby myself for 4 months now and love your teachings please keep it up!
Thanks for this video! Respect from Korea. I hope i can meet you oneday!
Always great to see your passion and your take on how to improve the work
One comment would be to lower the background music volume a little?

I watched the Sorinex video of your speech from 2018. Made me cry. Love ya bro. Keep it up and we will see you at bladeshow next year.
Great content. I could watch your videos for hours.
I've forged once in my whole life, nearly 30 now. Your videos are inspiring, I want to get into this!
I got into it at 35 I'm 38 now its never too late my friend !
Shoot I did t start till I was 47 and now I'm 51. Practice good hammer technique and you can forge for as long as you can pick a hammer up.
As an almost 30 year old myself i promise you wanna get into this. Blacksmithing is just about as zen as it gets
Great video and content man!! Love your work!!
This made my day, keep them coming homie

Man, if that's the wrong way to get a finish on a blade like that. Then I hope you are never right, cause that blade looks bloody amazing and the camera probably doesn't do it justice. Great video.
Thanks for the video, I really appreciate how you put things into perspective, I'm definitely subscribing to you man, you definitely deserve more appreciation

Best video I have ever seen on this process! Thanks Neil!
Amazing work. I know I can never do that but truly appreciate your craft. Thank you for the insight and your time.
Wow awesome keep it up man
Coffee is a great food-safe etching medium because it is acidic, with a PH of 4-5. Given time, and the right concentration, it will eat steel. That is a beautiful blade, Neil.
Love it, ceep going man
You are awesome man!
Neil, thank you so much for sharing your knowledge! Great video!
