If you were to compare the new and old HG Rick Dias side by side, you'll notice very subtle differences in the proportions. For the record, the Rick Dias pistols do jut out from the backpack (they can fire from it), so the ability for them to move up and down on the attachment point is intentional. Honestly, how dynamic do you want a Rick Dias to be? It's not like it ever pulled off any dynamic poses in the anime, nor is it a dynamic design. Instead of joints, all Bandai needed to do was make the weapon attachment parts fold up or something so the Rick Dias can hold them properly. The old kit was fine besides that, really. Are you not going to give credit to a 20-year old kit for having accurate color separation and anime-accurate proportions and detailing? Some modern kits have less accurate color separation than this. You complained about remold issues, but then you noted that most of the kit is new... and most of your complaints, excluding weapons, are based around how the new parts aren't necessarily a major improvement.
It was a really bad review, there are a very small number of parts reused, and only because they were up to snuff to begin with. The tubes in the head are indeed the vulcans. The Bazooka is also meant to be held and stored that way, it's the way it always portrayed as holding it. Same with the Dijeh.
I agree with your complaint about the weapons being loose in the hands, but the weapons being at an angle when held is not an issue of this kit's age. There are plenty of modern kits that do that too simply due to the weapons' designs, which is the case here too.
Hey there Mecha. The reason the head opens up like that is because that's actually the cockpit. Yep, Rick Dias' cockpit is actually located in the head. And the clay bazooka is actually held like that even in the anime. The beam pistols too. Sure it looks awkward, but it's based on a vintage mech design so it can't be helped. The beam pistols do slot in on the back and pivots like that in the show too. Again, old mecha design from a fairly old series. But I do agree that this kit feels underwhelming for a P-Bandai kit.

I never really got around to asking this but, when it comes to premium bandai kits, does the quality in plastic get an upgrade compared to a normal 1/44 high grade?
Doesn’t apply to just p-Bandai, but anything with a blue Bandai logo had basically remolded all of the joint and inner detail plastic in polystyrene instead of ABS plastic. Polystyrene is softer than ABS, easier to paint, and lasts longer I think.
No, same plastics unless it's something like the MG F90 that's made specifically of ABS or something. The only differences are color, or accessories, or aesthetic pieces
I am and will forever associate the red Rick Dias with Apolly Bay instead of Quattro. Apolly may be a meat shield, but he does stuff in that suit. "Sunglasses Char" on the other hand, does almost nothing in that Rick Dias than meeting and babying an angsty 17-year old before he switches to a Mark II and then the Hyaku Shiki.
@@StrangeSunset7 Mk II is the most basic machine in Zeta Gundam(only an upgraded Rx-78-2), and there are so many machines that out perform the Rick Dias, both in the show, and as model kits

I've been thinking about this kit, about how it was a disaster, but then I thought about what older kits would have been a good idea. the HGUC GM Custom came to mind, as i went to repose and and I was shocked to find it has ball jointed hips. it looks good already and its articulation wasnt bad, so i feel like all that one needed was new hip joints and maybe upgraded elbow joints and then BOOM a PERFECT HGUC "Revive" kit.
My base line for articulation is pretty simple: Does the Gunpla pose the way it does in the anime? Yeah....that suit is pretty plain. Definitely a kit for a customize or panel line fanatic.
I have the MG Ricky D and it's pretty good. If anything, it's the first MG I got that had individual articulated fingers. Quite a unique build experience, just don't expect too much out of it.
@@OuroborosChoked Oh, I see thank you. I thought it was like the RX-78 revive.. If I get my hands on this kit, I'd paint the plastic where the mono-eye is sitting at with chrome silver.. I've done it with my HG Unicorns. They pop when the light hits em..
The MG Rick Dias is quite a bit better. Still not a posing monster, and it predates Action Bases, but the hands are some of the better fully-articulated ones prior to the RX-78-2 v2.0. The regular navy blue Rick Dias differs from the Quattro version in the thrusters: the navy blue has boxier thrusters compared to the Quattro version's round ones. In either guise, the MG Rick Dias is basically a space-maneuverable walking tank, with pretty good stability. My only real gripe is the collarbone cables being loose; they're essentially just captive in their spots with nothing actually attaching them.
Just got one of Mercari, I'm aware that it's kind of bogus but I'm trying to fill out all the HG Zeta suits and this one is the hardest to find. I'm hoping it isn't THAT bad because it's one of my favorite Zeta designs.
I just want to say, this review doesn't sit well with me now that the finished build is sitting in front of me. For a long while, I avoided this kit based on this review despite the fact that this is one of my favorite mobile suits and being a big fan of Zeta. Top points from the build: Quick build, very straightforward and easy in line with other revive builds. No stickers. No color correction. Extremely solid. Wide base, big feet, low center of gravity, solid joints. Not wobbly in the slightest. It is a rock. Range of motion is in proportion to the design, which is to say, somewhat limited range, but what is there is effective and solid with well designed peg joints. Hands fit the clay bazooka and, interestingly, the beam saber, with a death grip. The beam pistols are loose, and work best when clutched tightly in the elbow crotch. Doesn't move unless I flick it, then it will move. Looks exactly like the anime. Proportions are exactly on point. The black version colors are honestly gorgeous. Seam lines and nub marks are obvious in certain places, but not egregious. In line with most other high grade revives. Extremely expensive and hard to find for a revive kit. Expect to spend 3 times as much as a normal revive. Honestly, I love this thing and I already placed an order for the red version which I cannot wait to arrive. But I love the Rick Dias, and I can't find the master grade for less than $150 anywhere. That said, this is still my favorite revive, and I have the revive Gouf, Qubeley, RX-78, Hyaku-Shiki, and GEP Zeta on my shelf. Next best are the Gouf and the Hyaku Shiki, in that order. My top recommendation is the Gouf because it is on point with the anime, with gorgeous colors, and it costs $20, not $60.
You really didn't want to like this kit, it has pretty good features and proportions. You frequently said the opposite of what you were demonstrating on screen with the poseability, you had to turn the thing upside down and nudge the guns out for them to fall. It's every bit as good as a modern HG, you just kind of shat on it.
I mean, what do you expect It's a 20 year old kit,and It's basically exactly what you'd expect from a 20 year old kit.But then again, quite a few kits, like the MG Re-gz,were good for the time, but are compared to kits like the MGs of current year, like the MG Barbatos, which completely outclassed them
MG Rick Dias has tech based on the og MG Dom if I recall correctly. If you're interested its basically like what a new RE/100 is, and feels pretty hollow honestly. Not a bad kit but it's very basic. Not much in the way of inner frame at all. As someone watching through Zeta and loving it, Zeta Gundam got the shaft in terms of kits. Really hoping they pump out some more revives like the Qubeley. Also hoping the PG Zeta gets the unleashed treatment.
I have the older HG kit and the only difference I could tell is the extra details added to the armor. The joints and articulation look pretty much the same to me.
Funny enough, the HG Rick Dias was the first gunpla I ever built (the mass production colours). It's certainly not something I take off my shelf and pose. It looks nice, but that's about all the 2000 version has going for it.
I’ve been watching a lot of your videos, ever since I got into Gunpla. Just wanna know because looking at your collections none of em seems to be spray painted or top coated? Because idk if I should go and do mine or just go straight build with just minor panel lines.
lol finger moves because Zeta suits shoot stuff out of their fingers to patch up holes in Colonies. Don't think they do it with any of the other Zeta kits though, so it's pretty random.
10:42 I'd much rather see you review a better Zeta Guyndam machine like the HG The O, the upcoming HG Baund Doc, the HG Doven Wolf, and the HG Byarlant
He's a biased reviewer. Only preferred "decent looking" mechs (Modern UC and AU alikes), so no wacky MS kits are safe from his shit (aside from a couple of them like Dictus)
If I may express a disgraced opinion, wouldn't it be better having a ball and socket for zaku or zeon style suits? they don't have a risk of breaking. A zaku doesn't need much articulation either so ball and socket is perfect for zeon mobile suits.
Ah switched to mostly HG in the last few months and chose this kit as my first PB HG... such a shame but I love the rick dias, MG is good, mine's wearing the ballute.
I'll bought this 'cause. The original high grade disappeared on amazon. Just gonna kitbash with a hizack I got. and i'm gonna give one of the beam pistols to either a dom or high mobility zaku prototype.
1:12 I hate it when they do that shit. It’s not even that hard to add minor surface detailing to their molds to update it. Hopefully they at least change the plastic formulation that they inject into those old molds.

Quattro is better than char. Change my mind. Also, Cuatre Vaghina
“It must have been scratching its ass while the other kits were applying for revives” never change Mecha, never change
This actually looks better than I expected. Maybe it is because I can't see well... Watch zeta. It's pretty good and you get to see the sexiest man ever, Quattro Bajenna
Totally not char
Char never used the Rick Dias. It was only mainly piloted by Quattro Bajeena, Emma Sheen, and Amuro Ray.
Wait until you hear who Quattro is
@@MrHalonoob117 Sure I know who Quattro is. He's one of the AEUG's most trusted ace pilots.
@@ChadmasterDante Great, thanks for the answers!
Definitely missing your Halloween theme for the background
I am and will forever associate the red Rick Dias with Apolly Bay instead of Quattro. Apolly may be a meat shield, but he does stuff in that suit. "Sunglasses Char" on the other hand, does almost nothing in that Rick Dias than meeting and babying an angsty 17-year old before he switches to a Mark II and then the Hyaku Shiki.
The back mounted beam pistols are supposed to move according to the anime.
this is the best edited mecha gaikotsu video ever made

Knockoff zaku videos
Everyone's confused with Sandrock and Rick Dias pilot's name pronunciation. lmao!
Top 10 Zeta Gundam Mobile Suits

3)- Zeta Gundam
4)- The O
5)- Psyco Gundam
6)- Byarlant
7)- Hambrabi
8)- Hyaku Shiki
9)- Messala
10)- Gundam Mk II
Really? mk 2 at the bottom? And you forgot the rick dias
@@StrangeSunset7 Mk II is the most basic machine in Zeta Gundam(only an upgraded Rx-78-2), and there are so many machines that out perform the Rick Dias, both in the show, and as model kits
Doven Wolf is ZZ. No Gabthly, Palace Athene, Marasai, Dijeh or Gaplant, but you include that monstrosity the Bound Doc?
@@andrewcarter1747 switched Doven wolf for Psyco Gundam.
all the ones you mentioned are meh to me.
Baund Doc is amazing
@@GojiraFan-in9oo the mk 2 is a completely different suit from the rx and you could of at least included the rick Dias in 10 or 9 if you hate it so much
I always like to play "Spot the dog hair on the mobile suite" when I watch these reviews. xD As a dog person, I get it.
Ooo, I like this kit. It looks like something from macross. Those thick arms look nice.
That saber handle can probably be painted to look like lukes light saber.
when im so pushy about the hg gundam heavyarms kit coming this month
bandai: 0:20
P-Bandai
This kit is poop-bandai
i'm so sorry. this was the best I could come up with
More like, pathetic bandai
Or poor bandai
Yeah, should've been regular instead of premium.
Yeah , I hate it when grunt suits became P-Bandai lul
P-Bandai? More like Pretty fucking disgusting
My base line for articulation is pretty simple: Does the Gunpla pose the way it does in the anime? Yeah....that suit is pretty plain. Definitely a kit for a customize or panel line fanatic.
Oh look, the polycaps are older than me
Came for the Rick Diaz, stayed for the Cattro Baneeja slaps
I have the MG Ricky D and it's pretty good. If anything, it's the first MG I got that had individual articulated fingers. Quite a unique build experience, just don't expect too much out of it.
Can't wait for Mecha to review the P-Bandai HG Extreme Gundam [Type Leos] Eclipse Phase!
About the mono eye, is it glowing because of your lighting or is it because there's a silver sticker behind??
It's the lighting. There's no room behind it for a sticker, as it's kinda... wedged into the plastic, iirc.
@@OuroborosChoked
Oh, I see thank you.
Mecha: These are from 1995...
Me: huh. 15 years already
Mecha:... which is 25 years old.
Me:dafuq?
Just got one of Mercari, I'm aware that it's kind of bogus but I'm trying to fill out all the HG Zeta suits and this one is the hardest to find. I'm hoping it isn't THAT bad because it's one of my favorite Zeta designs.
Should i buy a rg astray red frame
Or
Rg force impulse
Can help me?
If you like the base suit equally then take the one with the weapons you prefer. If you still can’t decide then flip a coin. That’s what I always do.
Can you do a Zabanya Review? As well as the Harute and Raphael?
I just want to say, this review doesn't sit well with me now that the finished build is sitting in front of me. For a long while, I avoided this kit based on this review despite the fact that this is one of my favorite mobile suits and being a big fan of Zeta.
Top points from the build:
Quick build, very straightforward and easy in line with other revive builds.
Looks like someone can't really speak Spanish cuz Quattro is Latin for 4
Lol *lo sé verdad?*
It’s KWA-TRO-BUH-GENE-UH!
I mean,what do you expect
It's a 20 year old kit,and It's basically exactly what you'd expect from a 20 year old kit.But then again, quite a few kits, like the MG Re-gz,were good for the time, but are compared to kits like the MGs of current year, like the MG Barbatos, which completely outclassed them
MG Rick Dias has tech based on the og MG Dom if I recall correctly.
Also hoping the PG Zeta gets the unleashed treatment.
i've never built the mg rick dias but i'd love to see your review, been curious of it also
Dude, what's with all the hate on 20 year old kits. its just needs a little love.
to be fair the bazooka was held like that in the anime
I have the older HG kit and the only difference I could tell is the extra details added to the armor. The joints and articulation look pretty much the same to me.
Where did you get those diorama building sets at?!
Funny enough, the HG Rick Dias was the first gunpla I ever built (the mass production colours). It's certainly not something I take off my shelf and pose. It looks nice, but that's about all the 2000 version has going for it.
what are those stands that he uses? the clear with the butt peg
Figma stands.
@@muisverriet thank you
Mecha pay attention
Bandai showed this as just a Rick Diaz with new articulation
8:43 The kit's wrist looks like their about to pop out.
And I can say that cause the original has the exact same problem!
Are you going to get the Plutone?
Was that one out in September or October?
The Rick Dias deserves the same treatment that Char's Zaku II recently got.
Oh yeah, the flying-egg-dog thing came out. Been waiting for a kit of that one since i played Gundam vs Zeta way back when.
quattro what?
Anyway...its the way rick dias holding bazooka..and its not design to manuver..thats why
As i remmember the head of dias is cockpit
I’ve been watching a lot of your videos, ever since I got into Gunpla. Just wanna know because looking at your collections none of em seems to be spray painted or top coated? Because idk if I should go and do mine or just go straight build with just minor panel lines.
I know that he is sponsored by Buyee, but also check out the US P-Bandai store (If you are located in the U.S.)
i will call this rick dias as museum KIT
lol finger moves because Zeta suits shoot stuff out of their fingers to patch up holes in Colonies. Don't think they do it with any of the other Zeta kits though, so it's pretty random.
Look at how they massacred my boy ;(
10:42 I'd much rather see you review a better Zeta Guyndam machine like the HG The O, the upcoming HG Baund Doc, the HG Doven Wolf, and the HG Byarlant
No
He will just shit on it. Like all the other descent kits
He's a biased reviewer. Only preferred "decent looking" mechs (Modern UC and AU alikes), so no wacky MS kits are safe from his shit (aside from a couple of them like Dictus)
Yo Mecha the Rick Dias has the cockpit in the head
Bandai:call char Quattro Bajeena
Char:you want get punch face Bandai
I like the inner shoulder detail, while I hate the hands.
I just realized something; when are you going to do another 30mm video?
the RX-78-05 was announced and I can't wait for that rg gundam perfectability
Man that's such a shame, the Rick Dias was an awesome suit and it really deserved better.
If ordering these is what it takes to get AoZ stuff rerun in the US, I'll buy them all.
1:12 I hate it when they do that shit. It’s not even that hard to add minor surface detailing to their molds to update it. Hopefully they at least change the plastic formulation that they inject into those old molds.
bandai. you make me sad. I was looking forward to this kit. guess i'll have to try and get the mg then.
Was about to add a P Bandai Ricky Deez to my cart just because they’re kinda cool looking and to fill my cart out a bit…nevermind lol. I’m glad I saw this first.
0:22 GO!!!! CHAR!!!!!!! hit em hard. lol
Wish they did something more with the accessories at least. The joints in this kit are waaaaaaaaay better than the original tho
