The screws on my Manix were really tight as well. So tight that I sheared the head off a cheap Amazon torx bit. I upgraded to the Wiha stubby driver and bits, and they got the screws out easily. What a difference good tools make.
Tough job - almost dissuading me from going forward with my Manix... Naw - I'll do it - the result is too enticing to pass up. Question for you - have you figured out if there's a low-riding pocket clip for a Goddard? I think they used the same one as Delica-3rd Gen - single screw... Thank you for an awesome vid!
Great colour combo and that pocket clip really makes it! Thanks for doing this video and not editing out some of the difficulties you had. I've got a Manix 2 on its way, my first Spyderco, so looking forward to it. This has given me some mod ideas!
Just got a cru wear brown micarta manix and love it. I have many $3-4 and even 7 hundred dollar knives and the Manix is my new favorite. You are going to love it! Didn’t mean to seem like I’m bragging just trying to make you amped on the purchase, it is really good.👍🏼 🦅 TRUMP2024 🇺🇸
The struggle bus is one that any knife guy has ridden. I appreciate you keeping it real and this video will save me some time and hassle when my AWT scales arrive soon. I just wipe down everything with mineral oil on a microfiber at the end of the day and I don't have any issues.
I'm glad you found it useful. Its actually a very easy install once you know what to do. I think this is the first AWT Manix 2 scale install video on RUclips because I looked and couldn't find one. Once you know you don't need the lanyard tube it is very simple. Just take all the other screws out, remove the pivot, cage, washers, and the little spacer above the cage and it is a very simple build.
@@bladesandedc You're right nobody else has done one which is how I found yours. I'll take you up on the offer of a ceramic ball, happy to send you a SASE.
I have thoroughly enjoyed this video, the screw ups, the aggravation when things don’t cooperate, and then the success. Sounds like a normal day in my household LOL!!!
Sick custom job! Those scales are awesome, and it looks like the overall thickness to the knifes profile was also slimmer down along with the weight.. great job!
I'm really glad I found your video on this. From what I have heard the Manix 2 is one of the hardest knives to be doing a scale swap on. The spring in the cage lock likes to jump some distance when you unlock it from the cage. This will be the first scale swap I ever try so if it succeeds (gonna try over the weekend) I will be ready for any other scale swap! But I plan to use your video as a guide to see how it's done right!
The scale swap itself isn't too bad just make sure you watch out for the cage and best to do one side at a time… the tricky part is swapping the cage, oh and you have to pry the G10 and liner off that dang lanyard which can be difficult especially if you want to keep the g10 and liner in good condition
Just got my manix 2 a couple days ago and I'm loving it. It's actually better than I was expecting and that's saying something. Im looking forward to customising it myself in the near future, gonna go for a different colour every part, the jokers manix 😂😂
Manix 2, and para 2 are my favorite spydies, followed by the Endura and native 5. Got the magnacut manix 2 lightweight on pre order I'm going to poach the blade off of for a build with some original goat scales, and some AWT scales on the way for my other manix 2. Really excited to make them both truly my own. Collection of para 2s next. Thanks for the video.
Not sure if anyone else makes these, but they look pretty good . Have a black coated blade on my pm3 so debating on black coated or stonewashed raw aluminum for contrast n durability of finish
On your scale puller you should try putting a drop of oil between the scale and tube. Then tighten down the tool and wiggle the scale and tool. In a swinging motion not flexing apart.
Hey there! I recently got a Manix 2 15V, & I just ordered these exact AWT scales in this color yesterday! I saved some money by ordering blems, & those were the only type in which they had blue available. And from what I've seen, the blems don't seem too bad, & I saved $15. I already have a brass cage & short MXG clip that I'm planning on switching over, but I think it'd be really cool to have a ceramic ball to go with this setup. If you have any of these bearings left & you're willing to send, I'd LOVE to have one! And thanks so much for posting this assembly video. I likely would've had the same issue at first trying to figure out that barrel spacer. And I didn't know the lanyard tube isn't needed for these scales. There are several things about this video that I'm sure will save me time vs. me trying to figure everything out as I go. I'm used to disassembling knives, but even so, there's aspects of this particular assembly that aren't crystal clear initially. I thought I had already subbed to you & noticed just now that I wasn't, so I fixed that! Subbed! :o)
Thank you for the kind words. I looked on youtube for a AWT Manix install and couldn't find one so it makes me feel good that this one helped you and I hope it helps others, because the AWT scale install with the liner delete completely changes this knife for the better. Email me your address at BladesandEDC@gmail.com and I will send you a ceramic bearing.
I'm glad other people have trouble sometimes, too. I make some boneheaded mistakes when I just assume I know how things go back together, instead of taking the time to figure it out before I start. But I wouldn't film it. I wonder if many reviewers make the same types of mistakes and just edit them out before posting... I just ordered a set of scales to replace the smooth G10 (heavy and no grip). I want to use the Cruwear blade, but this thing is just too heavy.
I really dig the PM2 clip on that Mannix. I've got the Universal on one of mine but the curve of the Pm2 clip and the pattern of the CF, the colors you chose with the cage and all is very cool. I would have not made any of those decisions but you did n it's fn awesome.
Your setup is def one of the best looking I've seen thus far. I'm not the type to copy another man's setup intentionally, but this makes me wish I was. 😂
There is the Manix2 Lightweight at 2.9 oz VS 4.9 oz. but something tells me this not all about weight! FYI I know this tip is coming way too late, but I don't think the screws are too tight. It's the thread locker. Hold a lighter under the hex bit until it is hot, then and use the bit to heat the pivot screw. Much less painful to unscrew. edit: the weights above are from the Spyderco Catalog. I would also like to cut down the spring in my Manix 2 Lightweight, but there are no screws, just rivets.
The problem with the tube tool is that it's VERY sensitive to alignment. If it just locks, you need to re-align it until it's centered perfectly. But you figured that out.
Man you weren't kidding about these scales! I got the purple ano! They just are beautiful and premium. Only issue I'm afraid of is damn scratches but that's with any, especially aluminum. Definitely won't be my work user. Thanks for the help! 👍
Rhar is the clip I used. It sticks out just a little past the scale so I had to sand it down a little. While installed on the scale I traced on the clip with a black pen and then laid a piece of 100 grit sand paper on a flat surface and rubbed the clip across it until i got to the line. It takes about 5 minutes to do it and fits like a glove.

How well does the clip function in and out of pocket? I love the looks of them, but I’ve had a lot of milled clips that are just a pain to get into the pocket. The original Spyderco clip and lynch clips slide right in with ease.
I wonder if these scales would work on Manix 2 Lightweight, since that knife has no liners in the first place. Getting the pinned plastic grip would probably be the hardest part, but after that, all the parts would be there.
I am not sure about that. With the para 3 LW they make a separate set of scales thats different from the normal para 3. They aren't currently selling any that say they are for the Manix 2 LW. Try to message them on Instagram and I'm sure they will let you know if they will work or not.

It lightens the weight and the ceramic gives it a great sound. The biggest improvement to the cage comes from the scales because you delete the liners and make the handle thinner which allows you to grip the cage much better. It will be the same with the OEM cage.

Yeah It’s A Really Nice Finished Product But Watching You R&R The Scales Was Painful To Say The Least … Hopefully I Can Do Mine With Far Less Struggle After Watching Your Struggles Thanks For The Video
Start with the D shaped side of the pivot. Put the pivot in the D shaped side first, put the back spacer on that side. Rear screw first wiggle the ball cage in and use your thumb to push the top of the back spacer down, which holds the BC in place, pull and the BC back and wiggle the blade on, then when it’s on, use your thumb to push down the back spacer. Carefully shut the blade. Put the top screw in the back spacer on the D shaped side. Show side. You have to shut the blade. The back spacer won’t line up open. Blade on hold the back spacer with your thumb, carefully shut the blade, top screw on that side. Then other side and you’re done. Washer, scale and rear stand off, pocket clip. Done. Worth every penny.

I had a manix briefly, but sold it right away because I thought it was a fat pig of a knife. I've since seen some AWT builds, and i'm trying to snag a manix on the secondary again now, lol...
You will love the Manix 2 with AWT scales installed and the liners deleted. Its a completely different knife and so much better in hand and pocket with it being thinner and 30% lighter.
That’s a great looking manix. I have the blade hq exclusive m4 on the way. I have my work cut out for me getting those rivets out. If anyone knows where I can get the pieces I need torx/screws etc please respond here.
I have never done a lightweight conversion where rivets have to be removed.
@@bladesandedc wonder if I’ll have to use my 12 year old delica 4 for its screws. I guess I can get maybe 1 or 1 from spyderco if I contact them. I’m not sure exactly but you don’t know I’ll you try.
@@iParacord You should be able to buy a set of Spyderco screws. I see them for a lot of models, but not for the Manix 2. Here is a lonk to hardware for the PM2. amzn.to/3K95C8j
@@bladesandedc thank you
Do you have the body for the OEM manix 2 sitting around? Bc I’d need most of that too
hmm, I thought all the manic 2 were BALL BEARINGS???? guess not? im done buying spyderco's with washers because of the sole problem of no matter how the pivot is adjusted, if you pinch the scales when closing it hangs up the blade.
You got anymore of the ceramic balls , if so I'll take one
Those were gone long ago but here is a link to the correct size. They only come in 5 packs, but they aren't expensive. amzn.to/44A8jHx
Does the cage now have side to side slop, or is it the same as the G10 scales?
It feels just as sturdy as it did with the G10./ You just have better access to grab it because the knife is thinner with the liners gone.
@@bladesandedc Thanks, it looks phenomenal.🔥
How much money did cost for parts minus the pocket clip ? Do you think that the parts will work on the maxamet lightweight ?
Unfortunately the scales will not work on a lightweight. The scales were $75, the cage was $26, and the ceramic ball was like $1.
@@bladesandedc I thought they changed the blade abit so you couldn't do it. Thanks
You are so funny I love your personality man and taste in knives! Ty
Thanks for the watch my man! I’ll take a ceramic ball if u still have one, thanks!
Sorry man they are all gone. Here is a link where you can buy them. You need to get the 3/16". amzn.to/3JhlR1C
@@bladesandedc no problem, thanks for the limk!!!
At least I am not the only one who curses at myself out loud while disabling and Reassembling knifes.
I'll take one of those ceramic balls iffn there is any left.
Sorry man those are long gone but here is a link to the correct size. They only come in 5 packs, but aren't expensive. amzn.to/3XGCL0m
Ok, thank you.
Gosh, this video is so entertaining. I’m ova here rootin for ya out loud the entire time. By the half way mark I was also calling screws bitches and a bastards. The struggle was real and I felt it.
I literally talk to myself like this with each and every build and I’m not videoing for an audience. You’re for sure my spirit animal.
epic ! turned out great
Beautiful shanks bro!!
this is extremely nice, quite eye catching.
You didn’t make the spring softer. You only shortened it. You need to stretch back out to the original length after you cut it, then it will be softer
That looked pretty hot up until the pocket clip. It was like one of those annoying artist collection ties based on abstract paintings.
Thank you for the video.
Yikes man! I recently got the manix 2 cru carta and I was thinking about getting the same scales but, after watching how hard it is to take this knife apart I think I’ll pass and just get the scales for my pm2.
It's not the worst thing in the world if you learn from his mistakes don't worry about messing with the lanyard tube and the captive pivot it's only captive on one side so make sure you pit that side in first
@@lordquenntillieusiii9250 thank you for the advice!
You have a ceramic ball I can have? Ill pay for shipping?
We have the same disassembly mat.
if you still have some ceramic balls ill take one?
SOrry man those have been gone for a while now. Here is a link to the correct size. They only come in 5 packs, but they aren't expensive. amzn.to/3CNGAHr
@@bladesandedc no worries, i figured as much but didn't really see any comments about them. My first manix 2 is otw and i plan to mess around with it
T-9 developed by Boeing. Great for cleaning and leaves a protective waxy coating. Completely replaces WD40
I made it to the end, so I guess I'm a legend whoot whoot 👍.
Oh yeah, because you're cool I'm also subscribing!
Edit: apparently I'm already subscribed to you 😆🤷✌️.
You do a damn good job!
Beautiful build man congrats. That thing is one sexy spyder. Im waiting on my m2 and titanium scales in the mail. Do you happen to have any links for some of those parts?
Thank you and all the parts are linked in the description of the video.
You have nice builds
Aluminum?
Yea.
@@bladesandedc Grippy?
I gave this video a thumbs up just for all the swearing. 😂
