    Flying from New York to Toronto, Canada, catch my first impressions of Canada and follow along for some travel photography around Toronto with my Fujifilm X-H1.
    Honestly, I couldn't stop taking photos of the CN Tower throughout the few days we had in Toronto. Partly because I was so excited to finally see it, and partly because it's literally sticking out behind every single building and every single view of the city!
    Even though we only spent a few days in Toronto, I really fell in love with Canada and will definitely be returning for a much longer time in the future. I'm so glad we squeezed Toronto into our New York trip, as well as a quick visit to Montreal which you can catch in the next video.

      Agreed. There's so much plant life and greenery int he summer. A lot of the planters and light posts have flowers and the city comes alive, but not in an aggressive way. People are generally still friendly. The Island is absolutely beautiful in the summer. The other viewpoint you were talking about is from Riverdale Park and it's absolutely stunning. Plus that area of the City is "greektown" and there's a lot of amazing foods bars there to check out on a return visit.
      I'm kind of shocked you didn't actually go UP the CN Tower and get a panoramic shot of the city from up there.

    As a torontonian this was awesome to watch. I think its just the weather that had you experience the quieter time in the city as if you were to visit during the summer you'd see how alive and busy the streets are, especially on a weekend. Hope you enjoyed your visit!

    Thank you so much for this video! Toronto is my favourite city and although I LOVE looking at photos of it, seeing it on video just makes it come alive and tugs at my heartstrings even more! I can confirm the novelty of taking photos of the CN Tower never wears off - I definitely recommend doing the Edgewalk if you go back in the summer so you can experience walking around/leaning off it!!

    The night view of the Toronto city skyline from either Hanlan's Point ferry boat or Centre Island ferry is one of the world's best urban views, and I've travelled to many cities to compare. An absolute jewel - and you can catch the moonlight reflection on the opposite "darker" side of the ferry boat.

    Another superb vlog Joe. About that ibis comment you made, you absolutely have to disable it during long exposures for the exact reason you mentioned. Fuji even made it easier to do so in the first firmware update because it was a pain in the ass trawling through the menu system to do so. Now you can add it to a function button or add it to your quick menus

    • @joeallam
      @joeallam  5 лет назад +1

      Glad to hear about the IBIS function button. I've found IBIS useful for photos, but detrimental using it on videos as it's added stepping movement to my slow pan shots making them unusable. I'm interested to see if the new firmware fixes that, but if not, at least I can add a quick button to disable it when in video mode.

    What an amazing tribute to one of the most photogenic cities in the world. You really pulled it off with a fun and professional attitude.Toronto is such a beautiful and iconic city. Over the years it has also developed into quite an entertainment mecca and truly embodies its nickname Hollywood North. I hope you had the opportunity to visit Casa Loma . It’s lovely and grand interior/exterior has been used in many blockbuster hits such as the X-Men series and Chicago. I realize this comment is 2 years late but Toronto's next big city building project is something called Rail Deck Park. It would deck over the rail lines from that bridge you were standing on and all the way to the CN Tower/Union Station.

    Great video, and you make an excellent point about the skyline changing dramatically. It feels like every other day i notice a new tower popping up on the horizon. Some new ones in the works that are dramatically going to change it further. Also, that area with the rail you were taking pics from is set to hopefully become raildeck park; which will provide a lovely large park area in the heart of the city over the rail lands with those views. That polson pier area you were at is going to be just south of a major redevelopment area, and the creation of an island(villiers island). That is one of the things i love so much about this city, it is in it's formative years where you can really see the city taking shape. Like a teenager coming into young adulthood. I liken it to something akin to living in New York in the 20's and 30's. Still much work to do, but i think it is progressing along quite well. Hopefully you get a chance to visit again soon. Try to make it back in the next 5-10 years, and i think you will hardly recognize the place.

    I hope you enjoyed your stay in Toronto! Beautiful city. I implore you to come back to Toronto in September, rent a car, and do a day trip up to Muskoka. Ontario is beautiful in the fall, and you should take the chance to check out towns like Barrie, Bracebridge, and Gravenhurst if you come back. Collingwood is also nice!

    CN Tower is fine and good,but I don’t think I’ve seen a new photo of it in years.I know I certainly haven’t taken anything new where it’s concerned.But there are a lot of neighborhoods that photograph really well.Best among them is Kensington Market,Beaches,Parkdale,Midtown and Queen West.Try doing something without the tower.

    Do you get any crash issues with the Fuji, I saw on another video recently some issues that I hadn't heard before, was surprised so would be interested to know if any issues you've encountered with the Fuji cameras?

      I've had it freeze about 2 or 3 times in the 8 months I've owned my X-H1. Just remove the battery and reinsert, then carry on as normal. My Canon froze about the same amount of times, but my Sony on the other hand was ridiculous with crashes! I always use super fast memory cards (150mb/s U3 UHS-II Class 10) so I'm not sure if that has anything to do with my limited number of problems compared to others.

    Toronto, like everything in Canada, is a tale of two seasons. Four actually, since we get four glorious seasons in most of the country. But Toronto in winter is very different from Toronto in summer. Come in the summer, and you'll get the urban forest to cool you down and make you forget about the ugly glass condos and dark grey skies. You'll get the parks and ravines, possibly run into some wildlife. The lake and the islands. Beaches even. In winter...well, it's winter. And unless you dress for the occasion and make winter your bitch, best stay home. Canadian winter is no joke. Toronto needs a Winterlude festival or a Carnaval like they have in Ottawa and Quebec. Why don't we have one? Not cold enough?
