So cool you are in Chicago. You took some lovely shots of our city. 1. There are Bean cleaners. 2. There are 38 moveable bridges over the Chicago River. I high recommend Patrick McBriarty's book, Chicago River Bridges. 3. You were on the Kinzie Street bridge over the North Branch at one point. That happened to be the spot of an historic event in City history. In 1992, piles being driven into the riverbed breached an abandoned tunnel system flooding the tunnels and the basements of many downtown buildings causing a mass evacuation of the Loop area for fear of electrical fires. None occurred by everybody went home early that day. Many buildings remained closed for days while the flood was controlled. 4. Chicago's City Hall/County Building opened in 1911. 5. No one in Chicago calls the Sears Tower, the Willis Tower. It is the Sears Tower and will always be the Sears Tower. Don't know Willis. Don't care to. There are great places to photograph outside downtown. Come back often.
Cheers for all the added info! I googled a few of them whilst editing this vlog. I was most intrigued by the bridge processes and set times during the year for opening. If anything, I thought they’d just open as and when required by boat. I did wonder about the Sears tower, as I’m quite prone to following accuracies, but didn’t know what emotional response the name change would have. Definitely want to return to Chicago and scratch further than the surface!
Another fun thing photo-wise is photos down alleyways that point toward the downtown. Some alleys go for miles. Another is from the elevated train platforms looking west from the Loop at night. You just missed the storms with the big waves of slush, but.. 50 blocks south of the Loop on the bike path, you can get great sunrise and photos of the city.
Oh, and views of the city from the bridges over the river up on say, Belmont or Diversey. Crap at noon, pretty cool at night, and with a wide angle and tripod, you can get some of the light streaks of planes coming into O'Hare every minute.
Beautiful photography journey amazing city visit love the storyline & architecture of Chicago you did amazing job of photographing the inner city of Chicago
Perfect timing to drop this video! Just booked tickets to Chicago! I'll be there in May so it will be interesting to see how the city differs in spring. Cheers!
When it comes to the States, I've always thought about NYC when it comes to photography. Never paid attention to Chicago until today through your lens, Joe. Amazing work!
I was in Chicago too last year and loved it. Only wish I had known a few cool photo spots before hand. Where do you get your spots from if you've never been there?
Google Maps is always the first point of call for finding locations, tracing lines on where good viewpoints could potentially be, then confirmed with street view. Second to that would be recommendations from other creators in the region and then researching via other vlogs and Instagram. I think we only really scratched the surface on this trip though!
Thank you for this wonderful video. Please come back to Chicago in good weather such as June or September and see the beautiful blue color of the water in Lake Michigan.
Ah, Chicago. Neat! Glad to see you are enjoying it even with this cold weather. It was ~40s in Illinois not too long ago. The street brightness might partly be from the salt. ;D I don't get out there much. Edit: I don't think anyone from around here wants to call that building anything but the Sears Tower, lol.
The Art Institute of Chicago, 40 years ago I said to myself "this is the greatest art museum in the world", and returning a few years ago I cried 3 times while going through it again. Greatest art museum in the world.
Well as someone who has been to both NY and Chicago for long periods of time, Chicago just straight up is cleaner. Not a single rat to be seen in Chicago.
Really enjoyed your video, lovely production. I’ve never been, yet, but I’m hoping to attend a the wedding of my niece which will be in July 2022, so so so hope I can make it. I hope to spend a good week in Chicago which will give me several days of Chicago street and architecture photography and to take in some of Chicago’s culture. Your video has made me even more excited to visit there. 👌📸

We did also meet a friend (who didn’t want to be on camera) who showed us some spots for a couple of hours one evening: instagram.com/tobishinobi
Ha ha Mr bean cleans the bean!! Oh yea so much to shoot for sure, could really enjoy that place Great video Joe as always, from day till dark, but 6am....really hmm could struggle with that one, well done Elly, great coat works a treat, thanks for this you guys, loved it!!
Haha! Wish I’d thought of Mr. Bean when we were there! Long shoot days for sure, with a LOT of walking throughout. Still not a morning person by any means. So much dead footage where my brain literally isn’t working haha
For some reason Chicago(I’ve lived here my whole life) has always reminded me of some setting you’d see in star wars. Such powerful and unique buildings
It’s always the Sears Tower to true Chicagoans; don’t let anyone tell you different! Thank you for visiting and thank you for leaving a little bit of yourselves. You guys are awesome, love your channel.
Watching your video I was wondering how to describe the footage & images, when 'clean' sprang to mind - then you began to talk about how clean you were finding Chicago. Great minds...
It is a fab city, I was there in 2015 and you’re right, it is very clean, especially when compared to London which has become, unfortunately, very grimy. I don’t recall spotting any pigeons! Some great shots, would love to go back with my X-E3
Wow! you have a great tour! Hope you can also visit in my country the philippines, especially at siargao, the place there is awesome. Hope you will check it out soon! 👍
Many thanks! I’m always looking to tweak and improve on my previous work, but lately I’ve been very happy with how it’s all been coming together which is why I’ve finally released my LUTs ✌️
Always love your travel photography videos, makes me want to go out and shoot at new places. I was just wondering if travel photography is your main genre of photography and if you earn from it. I'm just curious as to how one can earn income from travel photography, I know from your previous vid that the Japan tourism department asked you to take photos but I'm guessing that's not always the case. Hope it's not rude to ask, I'm just an aspiring photographer myself and the work I find widely available in my location is events and weddings photography. Thanks in advance and great video!
Some people think it is so special to be the first one to comment........hahahaha. I'm not that way.........but I am the first. (All your stuff is great)

Same with the Hancock, which is now officially named 875 N. Michigan Ave. ... but come on? It's the Hancock.
If you’re ever back in town we’d love to connect and shoot with you mate. We’re located in Chicago now!

This makes me want to back to Chicago again and check out those beautiful angles I missed before.... amazing city
Great perspective with the images taken...using the car park vantage points...provided a great perspective of the city. Really enjoyed it!
i love seeing my home through someone else’s eye. great photos!
Love my city. Well I live in Rockford but I love the city and I'm happy it treated y'all well!

Your photo and videography talent combined with Fuji magic, results are superb. You make a great team!
Loved the video Joe. You keep everything balanced. Lovely shots too.
Went Chicago in October got some great pictures. The best location I found was London House, glad to see that you found it too.
Great tones on those pictures❤ Love how the city looks through your lens Joe ✌
Cheers! I love discovering cities for the first time!
I went to Chicago a few years ago for a day, but I would definitely love to go back and explore more someday!
Very eager to return next time I’m in the US. So much more to explore!
I need to go back and photograph more, I went for the first time in 2017. Really awesome city!
what a beautiful city of winter through your cameras👍🏻it's amazing
Twice a year the drawbridges go up, spring and autumn to allow the large sail boats through

I just watched this again, wicked mate love those shots Joe.
Really great video Joe - even more excited for my Chicago trip in March! Quick question... where was the skyline shot at 4:43 taken from?
Amazing
Oh you went on the 360 view in the Hancock. Did you go on the TILT?
Nah didn’t bother with that. Seemed like it would cost a lot, for not all that much of an experience
Joe Allam I’d agree whole heartedly
Loved the video Joe! Got a question after watching this. How do you scout for these locations? Specially if you stay only a few days. Thanks!

great channel so Cool
No one in chicago calls it the willis tower, the true name is the “sears tower”
So many familiar places from the old classic Russian movie "Brother"
📸🧡👍
we all make that mistake calling it the sears tower hehe
I am not too interested in Chicago, especially in the winter, but loved your video none the less ;)
"Its very cold, its -2 degrees"
Meanwhile in Canada: -40 lol
tuurbow he's talking -2 degrees celsius you melon.. so its like -30F
@@alexcashin5374 You sound about as educated as a broken plastic lawn chair.
-2°C is 28.40°F
-40°C is -40°F dumbass
"It's very cold, it's -2 degrees."
*laughs in Montreal*
Bro, don't take photos OF the tower, take photos FROM it. Enter the building. 👌
Keep on calling it the Sears Tower. Nobody will hold it against you.
പൊളി.
