With my fursona I knew I wanted a dog because I always identified with them and loved them. But I didn't want something too basic so I chose a Chow Chow, big fluffy bear dog. Then I added accent of my favorite color, purple, and she was born! I got the name Skedaddle while trying to help my friend name her new puppy. It was on a list of puppy names and I thought it was really cute

I randomly was messing around with Lego bricks and created a cute yellow bear with a blue mane. And now my fursona, Sprillora Sunbear, is my main fursona. I made a fursuit of her, I went to a convention in it, and I've commissioned artists and now she's my favorite fursona I've made!
My fursona's name is also Ace! I chose that name before I even designed him because I'm asexual and I constantly shamed for it, so I knew I wanted a character that would show my pride. He's mainly gray and parts of him are white, black, and purple (the colors of the asexual pride flag). He's a husky, and I chose that because I met a friend's service husky one day and he was so sweet, and it stuck with me. So there ya go, the birth of Ace Husky!

That's so cool. Those people who made fun of you is stupid, their just jealous because I'm sure you're super awesome. Don't be afraid to be yourself you only have 1 life and you should live it how you are as a person, gay, or bi, or a furry, anything, just be yourself no matter what. Being yourself is so much better than being another copy in a world full of them. Alot of people suck anyways the ones who choose to be their true self's are the ones worth everything, their better too! Keep your chin up things will get better for you!

So.. for me it was first choosing my favorite animal, wolf in my case. Afterwards the colors bordeaux/claret and dark blue came from the shield of my highschool house (yea house like... in harry potter) and then the name Domiman, well It comes from a mix of my name and surname. Also a tip for people trying to make their fursonas: Dont pay attention to people saying "Yea X species is overused/there are too many" You choose whatever species you like, because what its important is that YOU feel represented by your sona, "uniqueness" doesnt matter either.
Nobody I know will tell me that a certain species is overused, since I only know one person of who I’m almost sure that she is a furry

I just picked everything that was my favorite a husky is my favorite dog, green has been my favorite color since I was a kid and the rest fell into place, but I still felt that I needed to be more unique than that so for more than a year after I first made him I was constantly editing him to even more of my favorite things which made him very personal to me, and heck, you can't get much more unique than something that has special personal meaning to you

Hi, Ace! My fursona is a third generation Irish wolf. He and his friends were picked to beta test 3 new high tech wristbands which could be programmed to activate a power suit with different abilities, based on who's wearing them (kinda like a superhero of sorts). They mostly deal with digital threats, but some in real life, yet he never uses violence, but rather his agility and wits to foil baddies. His wristband allows him to supercool the air around his paws, effectively letting him freeze whatever he touches. He's a very kind, loyal wolf who tries his best to live by a high moral code. He can sometimes be a bit of a goofy Omega wolf, but can take charge when needed. He loves to howl out a tune with friends, but can be a little shy around new furs.
My family's heritage on my dad's side is Irish/Welsh and my mom has some Scottish, so I wanted to embrace that. I also grew up in the cold mountains of NV, so I gave him the Irish name, Seán na Lapaíoighir. (In English, it means: John of the Ice Paws, but my friends call me Icewolf) He's essentially my good traits, and a few of my foibles too. I created him for a comic book assignment in my high school art class about 12 years ago.
I made Ali before I actually joined the furry fandom. I made her as a Minecraft OC, actually. I used to watch a youtuber named Deadlox who had a fan version named Enderlox, and I thought it was cool so I decided to make an enderdragon version of myself and I was like "Oh yeah. I suck at drawing humans." Then I just drew her as a full on enderdragon. For her name I just called her Ali, which is my nickname, and Pyro for her last which was my favorite TF2 character and becuase she's a dragon.
Then I decided to join the furry fandom, made a few changes, and here she is today.
That's pretty cool that an OC from another interest translated over to furry though :D

I'm a fairly new fur, only have dove into this fandom about half a year ago. Cats have always been my favorite animal above all others, but I also love deer. However when I saw a video of koi fish, I knew I had my cat design. She is a calico cat with a koi pattern; I got my first fanart of her! I couldn't be happier. Just the fanart itself said so much about her as a character, and I love her so much! (although I don't have a name for her yet. I'm thinking of a flower name!) Great story!
I made my fursona Max when I just got into the fandom. I remember going through furry tags on Tumblr and looking at all of these pictures and wanting a fursona so bad. I came across this one picture of a grey fox in a hoodie looking up at the moon and I felt so inspired by it that I opened up my sketch book and drew my own little doodle of a fox. That little doodle soon turned into a character I would draw EVERYWHERE. And as I drew him, he evolved into a character with his own markings and colors. He now looks COMPLETELY different than he did at first, he is tan and teal and has unique markings on his face and chest. He became a character that is unique to me. As homage to the picture that inspired him, his last name is Lunarsnout and he has a grey hoodie.
fun fact, haha! since your channel was really my sort of.... induction? to the fandom, I have a fox fursona like you! granted, "fox" is a very lose term, as they're sort of, strayed a bit species wise.... but regardless, they mean a lot to me and are actually one of my most cherished original characters :D thanks so much for being so welcoming and don't ever stop being you, man :)

I created my fursona off of 3 of these things: My favorite colors, my favorite species, and my favorite animator (or content creator). First off, I like cats, so my fursona is a cat. My favorite colors are pink, blue and white. And my favorite animator is kittydog (which gave me the idea for the hair style)!I really love the design for my OC and I've had it for nearly 2 years now.
My fursona was created as a character I wanted to be and her name is based on my first ever marching band show called Zenith. Which became Zena. The arrows on her are symbolic because they represent me having direction in my life. And me being the person I wanna make myself to be, just a very happy and goofy person. And that's just who I am today because I strived to be that kind of person.
I have a few fursonas but my favorite I Pickle the wolf. He then became a dragon/wolf during my process of species picking. He got his name from one of my fish that had a green like tone. But as he got older, he is a fun, energetic, little puppy that represents me. In a way.

My main fursona is a drekkubus named Skeli. She's a drekkubus because I love magic/magical beings and she's mainly purple because its my favorite color. One of my other fursona's is a Manokit named Neptune, he's basically the embodiment of my love for the ocean and he has a submarine anchor marking/tattoo on his right thigh as a memorial to my dad who was in the navy.
Mine's a blue/turquoise wolf with a white emo fringe and dark blue horns, she's called Sage. I chose her because she consists of my favourite colours, also her hair covering her eye shows my insecurities and her horns show how I see myself 😅 I chose a wolf because they find it hard to trust new wolves but are always close to their pack like me with my friends ^-^
personally i just kept making characters till i got something i liked, then of course built what my fursona is now from there ^^ (my current sona has 2 previous designs)
I cant stop making fursonas. ":/ I have 200+ now...I remember all of them...it just takes time to name them all...my main fursonas are Jesi (obviously) and Cloufur. Jesi is legit based off of my real name! My name is Jessie. If you take out the extra letters you get Jesi. I actually called her that because of the humor of the name YesITurtle which was the virson of my original fursona which is a potato turtle. Cloufur was made back when I was 6 or 7...he is a green Cataroot (Cat, Kangaroo and plant hybrid) I still dont have a fursuit...but I would love to have one! '(^ _ ^) I have been working on all of my fursonas for 9 years now and I think it's to late to turn back now! lol.
She is no more part potato she just is in heart a potato.

I really need to get rid of some of them even though I created an intire universe for them to live in. Their planet is called Gandwyt. It's mostly made out of islands and my super main fursona lives on an island called Jest Island.
Believe me 98% of them aren't even really based off of me.
They pretty much just exsist because I just enjoy making up characters and writing about their lives...heck I made up a species called NightWings aka Ptero-Reptilis they're bird like reptiles with feathers and several wings. Their tails are wings and their ears are also basically wings. They send dreams to the rest of the creatures as they sleep and each one has their own personal life and 'dream power'. I came up with it when I was really little.

My fursona is an undead raven! I just generally love ravens and crows because they are by far the smartest birds of them all! I also really loved skull suits! So I came up with my sweet little bird boy Edgar, named after Poe! He really loves knick knacks and snacks!!
For my main sona, I combined both my dogs XD it may sound strange, but it actually worked! I have a mini Aussie and a black lab and I named him shmiv, he's a mini Aussie and he turned out pretty cute! So, if you have any pets or any favorite animals, you can use this nifty trick!
Some of my fursonas used to just be edgy FNAF OCs before I joined the fandom, but since I joined the fandom I made like eight more characters/fursonas because my brain just can’t seem to take a break with these kinds of things and kept my FNAF OCs as they are, then just made them normal animals instead of animatronics. I’m working on a robotic fursona though, since I’ve always been fond of futuristic technology and robots and artificial intelligence stuff and all those kinds of things :3
That's really cool that Ace's name was based off an experience and could mean something really special to you! My fursona's also based off an experience, one that was on Animal Jam, actually! I know it sounds silly, but I had two really close online friends on there, and I sort of forget how, but we came of with nicknames for each other and the group name "Galaxy Flyers." Basically our outfits on Animal Jam were me, Starry, a yellow flamingo with a yellow star hat, Sunny, blue flamingo, with a blue sun hat, and Moony, orange flamingo, orange moon hat. Sunny gave me a red star pendant one year that matched the secondary color of the star hat, and I had really wanted one for a long time so it really meant a lot. When she got hacked, all of her items were stolen, so I did everything I could and traded a lot of my items and managed to get a few spiked wristbands (when they were actually rare and worth something), a blue sun hat, and a light blue sun pendant. It just brought us really close together, and Starry quickly became my fursona. All of my friends started calling me that and I started expressing myself through her character, and her personality is basically my online one which is the opposite of how I am irl! This was a couple years before I even knew what a furry or fursona was, but when I found out I realized I had created a fursona without even realizing it or knowing what it was which seemed, and still does, really strange to me since a lot of people struggle with creating a fursona that really represents them. Anyways, I thing Ace has a really cool personality, and even if it was just in a few seconds, I think you did a great job designing them to fit their personality! (If you prefer to be called by a specific gender, just let me know, I usually just use they for everyone.) Have a great day!
Mine started out as a Sonic fan character before having an anthro and a Mobian form. There wasn't anything special to how mine came to be like yours. I just literally found Frostfire on a Skyrim wiki page, liked the name so much that I used it, put all of my traits mixed with traits I wished I had into her, researched Inuit culture while mixing my own ideas into her backstory and viola! Frostfire the Kannik was born!

My main 'sona Jack is based on Lion King. I got super into the Lion King fandom the summer after my freshman year in college and I saw that people were making Lion King fursonas (I had been friends with a couple of furries since high school so I knew what fursonas were but I didn't really consider myself a part of the fandom) and I thought that sounded fun so over the next few months I learned how to draw in Lion King style and designed Jack. He's meant to look like a Simba/Kovu lovechild but also like me (his mane is based on how my hair actually looks, he has hazel eyes like me, his color palette is roughly based on my own, etc.). His personality is basically mine, he's helpful and loyal and caring, but his physical appearance is more of an ideal version of me, he's big and strong and able to protect his loved ones from harm.
I have 3 altsonas: Cedar (a female grizzly), Oddity (a male unicorn), and Aspen (a female fox). Cedar is basically just me if I lived in the Brother Bear universe. She also shares some of my physical characteristics. Oddity is me if I lived in the MLP universe. He looks nothing like me except his hazel eyes but his personality is very much like mine. Aspen is a 'sona that I designed on a whim. I run a regional furry chat on Telegram and I made a side chat for the foxes in the room but Telegram wouldn't let me leave that group so my friends joked that I should make a fox 'sona. I've had a rainbow fox tail since before I ever called myself a furry so I decided to base her on that tail. XD
Honestly I can relate to this method: I was just coming from a family members appointment to a doctor and we had gone to a restaurant in the Amish country. I messaged my furry friend on discord saying I wanted his help. I wasn't even considering being a part of the fandom at the time so I don't know what went through my head. He was just like, "well, what animal?" I respond with an "I can't decide between a dragon or wolf"
"Why not both?"
At the time I wasn't aware hybrids were a thing so I was slightly taken aback. He has a thing for big noses so I had him add one to the sona. Now where in the world the Acromadon came up I have no idea, but I used it. It's only recently I've gotten a colored version and even that isn't up to date. I still need to see if that first friend can do it
Mines a pretty simple story. I was introduced to Furries by a friend of mine (she is a black and white car name Jinxx.). I have always loved owls, great horned owls and snowy owls. So I have two

while reading these comments it just gives me a happy feeling, everyone just has such wonderful meanings and wonderful designs! when I came up with my fursona I was visiting my brother, watching all kinds of furry videos getting inspiration! and I thought, what animal do I seem to lean more to, a rabbit! then boom I had all kinds of ideas and got so excited, I sketched him out for the first time he hasn't changed much my brother thinks it's a little strange but he supports me in every way he loved my fursona and made me feel good about myself I decided to name my fursona shamrock after a four leaved clover, I always found them on my low days and would keep them in books and in my wallet, support from family and friends always helps my brother helped me with mine only with support it was awesome
It took me about 11 years to come up with mine. It's a Siberian Husky-Wolf mix (Wusky) and is named after my father, Mikhail. I chose a Husky-Wolf mix based on me and my personality. He is an exact reflection of me in that way. I am happy, helpful, outgoing, hyper/energetic, insomniac, caring, personable, understanding, car enthusiast, metalhead (i listen to extreme Metal music), etc, no difference whatsoever, and even has a slight emo/scene look with the hair, which I also have
I mad mine from the fnaf fandom and I loved how foxy would act like he’s tuff and then turns shy which is how I act
I remember, my fursona started out as an borzoi, but then I changed him over to a goat. He originally was originally a punkish sunset overdrive type Character, but when I changed him over to a goat, I also kinda changed my main subculture to greaser instead of punk, so I changed made him a greaser, too. He was then changed to be a Capricorn, or goat-fish if you will.
My fursona was made by my animal jam character! Mine is a wolagon a wolf+dragon= wolagon! Her name is Lunar. She expresses all her feelings! She is very kind and of course FLUFFY!
I got my name, SteelClaw, from a Tina Turner song. I always loved foxes, but knew red foxes were abundant, so I chose a grey fox. The blue accents and wrench tattoo came a bit later in life when I gave a friend artistic freedom as I was preparing for a new fursuit. This all started in 1996.
My fursona is a Reindeer named Mint (I've been thinking of redesigning him for the new year and changing his name to Andes). He is the more childish and playful sides of me, but has a very timid twist. ^^ The issue I'm having with Mint is that I've been asked about his backstory more than once. Since he is based off of me, adding a backstory may be troubling. I'm scared of my fursona, my little baby, becoming just another character if his personality is added to or ultimately recreated.
I created my fursona while skiing in Serbia. I’d discovered the wildcat while looking up Serbian wildlife, and as I was quite cat like, I instantly fell in love with the sub-species. I came up with the colour scheme based on what I was wearing on the slopes, teal salopettes and a grey fleece jacket. The markings of the wildcat stayed the same, she is literally me as a cat, even the name stayed the same (Sera).
I relate to large cats so much, grew up in Pennsylvania, and think dragons are awesome. I also relate to their nesting habits and introversion so my fursona is a panther/dragon hybrid named Charlotte which is a bit of a pull from Charlotte's Web with her personality and I think the setting was Pennsylvania
also, panthers like to chill in trees and dragons like a secluded den or cave so Charlotte's home is an elaborate, fancy tree house lost deep in the North American woods which is pretty much my idea of a dream house
I made mine off the concept of my favorite holiday which is christmas!~ so he’s a deer fox hybrid and i’ve always wanted to put a little bell collar on him for the christmas season and stuff and he’s kinda just evolved to be an embodiment of my joy!~
My fursona went from a purple and pink fox to a purple, red, and pink kitsune. She used go be just a simple design for a plus his and she evolved into much more.
I literally mixed my 3 favourite colors, my personality, my birthday, and I got my fursona.
As Omi's creation is much more interesting then my other sona's I'll share her origin story.
So, of course as a newer furry, I wanted a fursona and originally, I was dead set of repurposing one of my older characters into one, so I created Shriek the Mountain Cottontail. I loved her design and everything about her, but she didn't sit right with me. At the time I was obsessed with all the originally species the fandom came up with and discovered dutchies. I tried making a dutch angle dragon that had deer like anatomy, as I was at one point told I had the appearance of a doe, and a pair of axolotl gills. That one didn't sit right either, so I finally caved in and made a Crux. The species had intrigued me since I saw them, but I wasn't too fond of the lack of lore surrounding them which really pushed me away from the species. They just seemed crazy for the sake of being edgy, but I gave it a thought anyways.
Unlike the previous two, I started with a backstory, she would be one of many Cruxes created to see if they could be rendered sane. Though simple at the time, the concept stuck with me and I soon looked through the Greek alphabet to find her a name as I had recently read a lot of stories about sciency characters being given Greek letters as code names. Omicron, the equivalent of 'O' stood out to me. By the time I was designing her, I was confident she was the one, although it wasn't until one of my buddies drew her out of a lack of anything better to do that I was truly happy with her. She's been my main ever since.
My fursona is a lion that my boyfriend originally came up with as a warrior for a roleplay i was in with him and some other people he knew, but, over time, he became more like myself and less warrior like. Fun loving, loves to help others, stuff like that. :)

My fursona was kinda on-the-spot, too. At one point, I had made a bunch of characters that I wasn't happy with, and I was having trouble making a fursona. I wanted this fursona to be unique, but also represent me at the same time. I love cats, and I love moths, so I thought: "Hey! Why don't I make a hybrid of the two?" So, now my fursona is a Himalayan cat/rosy maple moth hybrid that I am constantly changing and is difficult to draw sometimes 👍🏾
My sona was created in a similar "mirror image" manor in the way of personality, but design wise, I had been drawing a wolf to represent me... and I just never colored it in until I got bored with the all white fur and added the green tipped ears.
My fursona, Smoke Wolf (head shot is my prof pic) is a simple grey and white wolf (though, his fur pattern does really look like a fox). Originally, he was how I virtually saw wolves (which are my FAVOURITE animal), even before I was a furry, I used his feral state to symbolise me and I guess when I joined the fandom in the middle of 2016, his design sorta grew on me too much to change it, and here he is today, literally the ONLY things about his appearance that have changed are his clothing choices and the length of his hair (just as my tastes change, I mean, he is literally meant to represent me)
My fursona is a fox 🦊. For his appearance, I took influence in Beatrix Potter’s character Mr Tod. I admired on how he was dressed so I used the long tweed jacket and red waistcoat that he wore in the book. The rest I accessories myself.
I made mine a evil sorcerer tiger because a tiger who controls evil magic and storms and who wears a awesome cape and robe is just awesome. :)
Plus I was inspired after seeing different sorcerer characters in the fandom on FA...
I've had three fursonas since joining the furry fandom. My first was a cat who was honestly just my warrior cats OC, and my second was a wolf (who I still love dearly today and occasionally draw) because I thought you had to have a canine fursona? My current one is a manta ray dragon hybrid. For my 11th birthday, my mom agreed to go on a weekend trip to an aquarium near the beach, and I was incredibly stressed out for the first part of the trip for a number of reasons. When we got to the aquarium the next morning, everything was immediately overwhelming and I could barely focus, let alone enjoy the experience. We eventually reached the touch pools where there were a few small rays and, even though I was probably the only person in that area over like... 8 years old? it was something I wanted to do, even if I was hesitant. Getting to touch the rays and feel them swim past under my fingers was so cool, and I remember feeling way more at ease afterwards. On top of that, manta rays specifically are something I could research for hours, especially after watching Moana with my friends last fall. I called on both of those experiences while designing my sona. I love hearing how people have created their OCs, whether it's something kind of complex like my story or simple like yours. After all, it's not about making the design, but what you do with it. A simple and "generic" design with a ton of personality and use is way better imo than an incredibly detailed and gorgeous but flat/"hard to work with" design.

After I met "kung fu panda" I begin to enjoy more about pandas of how cute they are and what they do. I went to a public library and discovered a book called "Bunnicula" I really enjoy it and there was a tv show of it, which I adore. Together I made Pando as a OC. After I met the fandom, he became my own fursona
I made Anuka by taking one of my favorite animals, the Tasmanian tiger, and putting two cute animals with it, the civet and genet, and kinda just mashed together the body types and markings.

Mine started when I was just joining the fandom and I wanted to draw an icon for my profiles. I didn't have a fursona yet, but my online name at the time was pinklemonade bc I really like the drink. So I tried to base the character off of pink lemonade. It ended up being more of a pastel blue-ish green character, and the more I drew her, her fur started being more mint colored. So I changed her name to Mint Lemonade and gave her more Pink and Yellow markings and features to fit in with the lemonade theme. So now she's Mint Lemonade the Cat!
Mine was literally just a doodle I connected with, and it just went from there.
Mine actually took two years to fully come to me. In that time, I already knew it was a wolf, wolves and foxes are definitely common. I had no trouble with colors and designs, but I did have a problem with the wolf's snout. I didn't like how long it was. I love my cats, and I added that for a shorter snout with thinking much of it. I ended up making some new species lol
The funny thing is, I made Elliot before I even knew what a furry was! Orignally he was a character for my story but he's so much now. Even funnier is that he was a rabbit at first and just quickly progressed into a dog with cute floppy ears. I drew anthropomorphic animals way before I classified myself as a furry. Then I found the fandom and I already had a strong bond with my character so there you have it. However me and him are nothing alike. I'm a girl he's a boy, he's smart I'm not, he's tall I'm short, he's straight I'm not, and he's able to conceal his anger as I am easy to fly off the handle.
I'm Dawn the dragon shapeshifter. I've actually had her for multiple years before the furry fandom. I was 12/13 so I didn't want to give away any personal info online, so I created a character to portray myself as so I could talk about myself without talking about myself. Her human design is a mix of how I look and how I want to look (has gradually shifted more and more to how I look over the years). I knew I wanted her to be a shapeshifter. I loved all animals and wanted to be all animals, so I wanted to draw her as various beasties. I didn't want her animal forms to stick out from her human form, but I didn't want them to blend too much into the other animals. So I have her a top coat of brown like my hair, and a bottom coat of white like my skin. Being an author as well she grew more and more of a personality as I put her as an easter egg into my stories and interacted with other people. It fell in line over the years, a big mix of a little of everything. A mix of how I am, how I want to be, and character traits that I like in a character.
Her dragon form probably came about because I developed a love for dragons over the years, probably stemming from my childhood dinosaur obsession. Her dragon form is a beautiful blend of mammal, avian, and reptile, so I can have parts of all those groups at once since I wouldn't ever be able to pick otherwise.
For my fursona I sortof wanted a bubbly happy personality and I when I think of happy I think of like pastel colours so she’s a dog with pastel pink, yellow spots and some blue! She has one floppy ear and I really like how she turned out! I decided to name her poppy because when we were naming our new dog one of our name ideas were poppy, I really liked the name and when I finished poppy’s design I just thought this is her name!
I’m hoping to get her made into a mini partial someday!!
My fursona is a DAD named Vali. I came up with him by watching Httyd and Thor and reading Norse mythology. He’s named after the son of Loki and his colors are based on Hiccup and Toothless.
Hey I was in the Boy Scouts too! Except I was a Senior Scout and I did over in the Philippines. I actually did get a bit of fursona inspiration from being in the Scouts, the school converted scouting into a sort of ROTC at the time, so we performed a lot of ceremonial stuff and it all had a paramilitary vibe to it. Welp I sort of got a bit of patriotism from all that and my bird fursona draws a lot of inspiration from the Philippine Eagle and the Philippine Flag in terms of colour design, his name was Kaleb for a bit, I'm planning on revising him though. I find it easier to make a fursona when you draw inspiration from something you are very attached to or are familiar with, in this case it was love for country!
Mine was given to me by my friend in High school that introduces me to furries. He asked me what my favorite animal was and then drew her on the spot. From then on i was Shwah Fox XD although im trying to revamp her a bit now. Thanks for the vid its help in the revamp process :3
I'm one of those obnoxious furs who has had more than one sona through the years. My first sona was just a simple little sparrow, since I really liked birds a lot. She didn't even really have a name though, so it was basically just me as a bird. The next one was a fox that my boyfriend came up with, since he likes foxes, and wanted me to be one too, so I was a purple fox for a while, named Violet (who has recently gone through some redesigns). Then after we had a short break from each other, and I took some time to explore my own likes, and created a winged cat named Imani, which is Swahili for Faith. She had a brindle pibald pattern, and kestral wings, because they're all things I really love, and connect strongly with. However, I felt isolated from my friends who were either wolves or foxes, and tried to go back to Violet, but everyone still insisted that I was a cat. That's when u decided to create my current main, a Kitsune named Cinnamon Swirl. She was heavily inspired by these creatures called Dumpling Dragons, that had scents and brought all sorts of benefits to those around them. Cinnamon was designed to be a shrine maiden/spirit, who brought people happiness and good luck, and smells like cinnamon. And that's technically where I stand, but my jackalope oc is becoming something of a mascot, because of how obsessed I've become with them, and the species they're part of.
Back in 2012, I played this game where you could play as an animal. I was obsessed with dogs at the time, but they didn't have dogs. But, they had wolves. Because that was the closest thing to a dog I could get, I chose that.
I went through many different designs for my wolf avatars throughout the years, but I settled on a brown wolf with lighter brown as a belly, paws, tail tip, and muzzle with black swirls and amber eyes and a bunch of different items on her. When I joined DeviantArt 3 years ago, I've heard the term "fursona" thrown around a lot. I didn't know it was a furry thing, so I decided to use that wolf avatar as my own fursona.
Then, I became a furry 2 years ago. I originally made another fursona, but then I decided to just use my old one. However, I wanted this fursona to be completely separate from the game, so I took off the items and tweaked her design a bit and gave her a real name, Nyla.
So yeah, that's pretty much how I made my fursona.
So this happened not long ago:
I was in my English class (I live in a Spanish country but I'm from the USA so I get kind of bored in that class) and we had to write a "friends routine" I'm not the person that makes friends easily so I made up a quick character since I have been in the fandom for a few weeks now. I came up with this character that is Shiba Inu, his name is Potatz (can also be called Potato). At first I didn't think much of it but then when I drew him I made a personality for him and realized that I had made a ideal version of myself and I was like: "Potatz the Shiba... I like it!" And ever since he is my fursona.
I was a furry unknowingly for 8 years until Zootopia came out and I realized I was totally a furry and I came out full force. Mine is Roy the fox. I chose a fox for obvious reasons and made him a deep red with black markings (and a white underside). I am a huge Fire Emblem fan so that's where I got the name. Not only is Roy my favorite Fire Emblem lord, but I just really love the name. It's a short but powerful name full of passion. My red coloration reflects off of not only the passion from the name, but also the passion from whom I named him after. I commissioned a fursuit maker about a month after Zootopia came out and my fursona was designed a week before. Very rushed I know but I just really wanted a fursuit. I'm really happy with my design so everything works out.
My oc is a tiger named Xibalba and the colors are inspired by the depiction of Xibalba from the book of life. I really like dark and/or natural colors so i chose one of my favorite animals and a grim and dark persona and thus Xibalba was born

Well I used my imagination and thought up of his name months after I use to name my channel Firewolf. *I put all the things I really love and put it together for this character also but I really thought of a story of my character before owning the first art of my fursona including my ref sheet etc. I commissioned the artists of my characters. I used to have a fursona called "Tallabel" - a brown cat with yellow hair and blue eyes - but she was disregarded when my personality changed, and I want to make a fursona again, but I'm currently going through an art block and have been for at least four months. I really need some sort of inspiration or something so I can draw again.
Spectre started out as a ghost version of my previous sona, but they kind of ended up with a life of their own and in the end the two were so different and Spectre just resonated with me more ! I feel your pain, my sona is completely white. I'm so creative =')
I used my favorite animal (red panda). I drew one out and experimented with a bunch of different color combinations. Now I have Rhoda, my red panda with purple accents :3
Mine started as an idea of a character named scraps that is really handy and can fix about anything but it evolved into my fursona and I draw her non-stop
I had three re-designs of my main fursona. My first fursona was Peppermint the cat, then Misty the wolf, and then Wave Racer which is my current fursona :P
Mine is a spiritual part of me a mix of two spirit animals a grizzly and polarbear, plus add a bit of magic and shamanism. Plus i like bears so it seemed pretty natural to choose as such

She started as a character on FeralHeart that I absolutely loved to bits! And when I first got into the furry fandom, I used a Gryphon character as my fursona! However I never really connected to her, and eventually went back to the dog I designed on FeralHeart, and she's been my fursona ever since! I even have a suit in the middle of being made for her! ^u^
My Fusona is Nuvie. I came up with her because i had realized that I have a very catlike personality, so I took my personality and gave it a shape and a name.
My fursona is an Anthropomorphic Scorpio. I made her species out of my curiosity of wanting to know what my Zodiac sign will look like as an animal. I made her personality like a type of rebel type girl. she can be mouthy at times and downright rude. I even took some good personalty traits like her big heart and her more softer side. But with the G5 of MLP FIM (My Little Pony Friendship Is Magic) she'll be motherly and kind. she'll also be firm and stern to younger ones who need guidance.
My fursona is a fox, named Eric Reynard. I named him after Eric Carr from KISS who went by the Fox, and Reynard being another word for Fox.
SO my first character was a grey wolf with Green hair Named Graveyard. She was a character in my story and who I used as my "fursona" on Deviantart for about 3 years, them I met my best friend Kenny, Who told me that Graveyard while a cool character didn't really fit me. We spent maybe 2 months thinking up a new one. and in the end we came up with a small long eared Cocker Spaniel named Pinecone. She's a small Brown colored dog with a hair style that matched mine, mute and shy to portray my fear of talking to people due to my stutter. She just kinda fit the hole what came to my presentation of myself online since at the time I had a largish following on tumblr and DA. To this day she is still me and while I kinda died off of DA FA and art in general, She still fits me.
My main fursona was originally a warriors fan character but has grown since then xD my secondary one is a character in my book series that's a lynx and my newest Sona (the one I hope to represent myself in the furry community/get a suit of) is a coydog :3 I love your videos btw!!!
I had a really hard time trying to come up with my fursona. (I was probably overthinking it) But I wanted a fursona that represented me AND was original. So eventually, I looked up Fursona Test on Google, and took it. My result was bear. I knew that there weren't a lot of bear fursonas and I loved bears, so it checked the both boxes. I named her Cherry because when I was looking up color pallettes, my favorite one was called "Cherry Cream Soda". I colored her in and I loved how she turned out! ^w^
My fursona is a black cat named Jinx.
I've always related to cats because of their personalities and habits.
I've always been a huge fan of black cats especially because they're so cool and misunderstood.
I named her Jinx because black cats are mostly considered bad luck, and I feel like I'm bad luck as well lol
Purple, black, and green are my favorite colors, so I just incorporated that into her.

Hi! So, like a lot of you, I am a young fur too! I struggled to make up a fursona as well, but I ended up making three:
Serena: she is a bat, and is the type of person who loves to party, and when she has a birthday, her party must be huge, or she'll throw a fit, but she nice to be around.
Alikar: He is a lion, but instead of having ears, he has horns! Yes, he has no ears! He is very shy, and has anger issues, he is the type that would rather watch anime by himself then go to a huge birthday party. Safe to say, he and Serena would never be friends... he also has a hard time trusting people.
Lui: He is the one in my profile picture! He is a sabertooth cat, and is very kind and friendly. He always gives people a second chance, or maybe a third! He is very passionate about playing the guitar and he believes everyone has some good to them! He is tye type of guy who listens to the red hot chili peppers all day and loves to spread cheer. For example, if he found a wallet with hundreds of dollars, he would return it as soon as he could.
All of my fursona's share a chunk of my personality and here are the examples: Serena is the part of me that loves to socialise and be goofy and make new friends. However, on the flip side, Alikar is the person I'm more of. I can't trust people to well, because of all the times teachers and kids have bullied me through the years, and I'd much rather be on my own, and when I do attempt to socialise, I come across as wierd, and so, only the people I have known for years are the people I can trust more.
But, lui is the person I want to be more of, I want to make more friends and me more friendly and patient with people, and I want to be an all-around good person to be around.

mine was originally a warrior cats fan character called willowcloud.
(but technically the first ever animal I represented myself as was a dodo, I was a Dino kid)
my current fursona is a pastel Calico cat called willow.
At first, my fursona was just a gray cat in a yellow shirt. Now, She has dyed hair, a choker, and a yellow hoodie. I was inspired to make her like this because
1) I like cats
2) When I was younger, I liked Warriors
3) Yellow looks good on gray

Before I even joined the community my friend introduced me to dutch angel dragons (Which I thought were adorable) so I made one and named her Misty. She then became my fursona and after a while I separated her from the D.A.D species all together and changed her into a winged cheetah/leopard mix
My Sona is basically what you said, a animal representation of me which is why he wears glasses xD I like foxes and the color black. I also love the heterochromatic eyes thing and as for my name, a friend helped me come up with one because im usually bad with names lol. Toshi sounded cute and simple and also because im a total weeb x)
I actually have at least 5 or 10 fursonas that all share a few traits with me, but I only have one main fursona that really represents me and who I am and is pretty much just me as a canine.
I've had a few fursonas over the past few years. My first one was a Warriors fan character. Then I moved on the the Guardians of Ga'Hoole series and came up with another fan character fursona, a short eared owl nae Nala Nyte. After a while I decided to do my own thingand just made a character that was a mash up of my favorite colors at the time. She was an Australian shepherd named aztek. Then I created a character for a story I was writing, decided I really liked her and made her my fursona. Eventually I found that she just really didn't represent me, and it was weird because I was keeping her in the story and it made me a little uncomfortable to be in my own story like that. Then I came up with a character named Mocha who I actually had a lot in common with, and she was sort of the base for my current fursona, Pine.
My current fursons's design came about from my love of nature/the woods/the state of Maine. She is based heavily off of the evergreen forests we heave up here in Maine, and i tried to brig in a little blue to represent the ocean because I like to spend a lot of time out fishing and spending nights out on the ocean catching sharks. (yes I actually go shark fishing.)
my fursona is a Clydesdale/Shire horse named Thunder, I created him when I first watch Beyblade in 2002 he started out as a Lion, Dragon and then a wolf a long with my other wolf Chemical Skittles up until 2012 when I joined the fandom, both wolf fursona became characters. He was a wolf but it did not fit my personally so one day when I was volunteer worker at a local horse back riding school, I saw a Black Clydesdale horse and then it hit me out of all the animals in the world horses are what fit best and they are my favourite animals so since 2012 Thunder has been a horse and it fits the personality I gave him and will always be that way.
I made my fursona kinda quickly because I just wanted to start to get involved in the fandom and then I just remembered the name that I had grown up with which was Daxter and then my fave animal and then my top 5 favourite colours and that's how Daxter the Wolf was made

My fursona used to be a blue and purple wolf. Her name was Flooma and I created her when I was new to the fandom. She was mainly blue with a purple fringe and stripes, I lost the drawing of her one day and I haven’t found it since. On Instagram I was bored so I asked my followers what I should draw, someone said a new character. I drew an orange and yellow otter with a purple fringe, it didn’t really look like an otter tho so I made it into a lion, her name was Skye. I was kind of bored of the design so I re drew her and she was a hybrid, I also didn’t like the name so I changed it to Maeve. After a while I also changed the gender to male and changed the name again, now it is Ollie. My profile pic is a drawing a friend made of the character and my username relates to the character as well
So I created my fursona probably a few years ago, I was talking with my friend and he told me about roleplaying and stuff and I needed a character so I came up with one based off of a game called animal jam, and my animal jam username was Snow and numbers so I named her, Snow. And I had a Arctic wolf at the time so I made her a wolf. She didn't have much personality or anything she was just kinda a character to play as. Later on, time passed and she finally had her own design and personality as the roleplay went on. She is kind of like me in some ways, but most of all she is wayyyy more confident. She is black with purple and blue spots, Blue eyes, She's a little rude, anger issues, but she is caring but just doesn't like to admit it and she is very confident.. I don't know why but I always just loved her so much and she means so much to me. I doodled her a lot at school and drew her a lot at home, she's just idk a better version of myself? but she does have flaws and that's what I like about her. she isn't perfect.. i have 3 fursonas! My first on Freedom started out as a warrior cats oc/sparkle cat lol I've toned her down a whole lot, and her name has no particular significance. My second is a goat called flora. She was just a drawing that i decided to make a fursona and flora was just another name i went by online. My third is a chimera called campanella. I made her as a combination of my other two fursonas. At first she was a goat/cat hybrid but i couldnt come up w a design that i lik4 so she became a sabertooth chimera w goat legs and a snake tail. Shes named after a character from night on the galactic railroad, which is a movie that i love a lot.
