    So amazing to hear you say that you’ve been inspired by ladies doing journaling/art journaling with textures and paints.. I am a journal maker and have been heavily inspired by a lot of furniture artists here on RUclips and Instagram and I sometimes apply their techniques and painting styles to the way I paint my journal covers that I create. So hearing you say that was a full circle moment! I love your style and the way you use color, and this piece looks incredible!!

      Well thank you then as you ladies who journal know where the layering is at....

    I was telling my gang about how intrepid you are and how every time you do something that would make a tidy perfectionist hemorrhage from the gall bladder you go 'I'm quite brave' or something. I love it. You're a rock star.

      Ha ha.... Art is not about perfection.... As is witnessed quite a lot if you watch my videos.

      They were not really random they were the background and the build up to the design.... Although I do understand to everyone at home they look like a hot mess and incredibly random. What a fun and beautiful piece! This a complement for sure, but it reminded me of when I cook a meal from all of the leftover bits of food that I have in my refrigerator and it comes out as a masterpiece that I can never recreate again. I loved the uninhibited way you just watching you unabashedly smashed and sprayed paint on the cupboard. I just found your channel a few weeks ago, but it has taken first place in my furniture painting artists. I love the earthy way you approach art and the sweet collaborative partnership you share with Martin. What a great team. Your accent is so lovely. My dream is to visit Scotland someday. I am in Boston, Massachusetts and my name is Lesley! Thank you so much for generously sharing your gift and knowledge.

    • @MadebyMarley
      @MadebyMarley  2 года назад +2

      Lesley I cook those meals the ones where you try to use everything up from your fridge and it turns out tasty. Then they ask you to make it again and I have totally forgotten what went into it ...ha ha ha
      I love they way you described it..... In regards to my art because you are actually quite correct I will never make another like this as I will forget what I did ( I will have to watch myself)
      As for painting I feel I want to spread the word that it's fun and so liberating to just play with paint. And to create a look that you are happy with.
      I'm so glad we rank so highly in your furniture artists as there are so so many amazingly talented artists out there.
      Marty and I are total partners and we have so much fun doing our videos . And we both read your message and we want you to know we appreciate your very kind words. We thank you for watching and commenting to stay with us on our journey.

In graphic design I worked with transparent layers of colors, textures, text, you name it. Speaking of Scotland, I've been listening to a 70s band, "Slade" and they have a great song, "We're All Crazy Now." The crazier the art the better.

    WOW! You have such an amazing imagination! I admire how you see alternative uses for pieces of furniture. My question is this- how do you know what paint/varnish/lacquer can go on top of each other? I hear you mention the different varieties, but I am clueless about them. Is there a formula or chemistry involved????

    What a magnificent piece of art! The detail is so so good! I would love to see what you create, when you aren’t creating furniture, or large pieces. If you have the time someday, I would love to see some smaller creations!

    Lel, how wonderful once again I'm thoroughly amazed. The world of color is all new to me and have been so excited to give it a go and have purchased a piece similar to the one in todays video I can hardly wait to use a pallete knife lol. Poor Don during the time I'm glued to the video he is trying to hang a door at least my legs are getting a workout up and down the stairs lol. Keep on creating your beautiful art❤

    Have you done anything in Scottish plaids? I bet you could pull it off.

    • @MadebyMarley

      Tartan? Yes but quite a long time ago I did but with all the clans tartans in Scotland you have to get them exact as you could offend. Ha ha
      Would you like me to? I could give it a bash...ha ha ha

      @@MadebyMarley Yes I guess tartan is correct word. Oh I bet if it's wrong you'd be in trouble. My husband had Scottish ancestry. His grandfather lived to 100+ and was very into his genealogy. He gave his tartan tie (green plaid) to my husband. Clan name was "Graham." Anyway I'm sure you have many, many ideas brewing in your head. I get a kick out of your wonderful creative videos.

      Yes Graham is a very Scottish name lots of Graham's ..thanks your always so kind . . some times ideas are quick and come easy other times they come and go till I work out how to execute them.

      @@MadebyMarley I do for myself, not to sell, at least not yet. It's hard, hard work! Very physical which is hard for me to do with horrible arthritis issues. I have painted/remodeled two bathrooms. Right now I'm back working on a large mirror frame for master bathroom. I made from foam board, paper mâché, joint compound, etc., Lol! I just wanted to see if I could do it vs wood. It's large and still in progress. While it's "curing" I am also creating smaller mirrors from cardboard with a Moroccan shape. Never seen it done before, it's a brain storm idea. Protoype #1 was done last year with obvious issues. But I had to start some where. Now working on Prototype #2. If all goes well I'd like to sell them. I just need to purchase a scroll saw so I can cut plexiglass/acrylic that has mirror finish one side. Option would be to have a catchy quote stenciled on the mirror. I would make my own stencil. I love, love to paint, create projects, improve home, etc. We remodeled our kitchen and it was my largest graphic design project imaginable. I always loved packaging design and grew up loving interior design.

      Wow I think we might be kindred spirits. I love home decor and interiors to. Your mirrors sound awesome. I like smalls and I've been asked a few times to do smaller projects so maybe I could fit some other things I do into my channel.I like hearing about what everyone else is making...
      I'm sorry to hear you have arthritis that must be painful and debilitating. Keep in touch.

    Would you know the U.S. equivalent to lacquer?

    • @MadebyMarley
      @MadebyMarley  Год назад

      A light sealer nothing to heavy.... Can you get rustoleum laquer in the US? Its a good one.
      Any light sealer will do not a tough coat sealer... Can you get French chic in the US they do a good sealer? I can't get DIY paint in the uk but does Debbie do a light sealer or wise owl...?
      I am asking marty to look on US Amazon he says he can't find rustoleum laquer only a spray.
      Let me look into to see if I can find something.... X x

      I'm sorry your not a fan of this piece, Art is of course subjective and not everyone has the capicity or appreciation to understand. I guess it's also a case of beauty is in the eye of the beholder because the customer who purchased this piece absolutely loved it. Thanks for watching and commenting.
