  • A look at the building and architectural features.
    Taking in the Grand Staircase
    The Blackpool Tower Circus
    The Blackpool Tower Ballroom
    The Blackpool Tower Eye
    & the Blackpool Comedy Carpet.
There are hundreds of videos featuring the tower on RUclips but very few consider the architecture.
I personally think just the building, without the actual tower, is a national treasure. With the Opulent Ballroom and the Moorish Circus, both by the famous theatre architect Frank Matcham unless you visit and pay for the attractions, you possibly won't have seen inside, unless of course you are a Strictly come dancing fan.
But there is more to see, small hidden features, wonderful Victorian tiles akin to those found in the natural history museum. Join me as I show you the bits of the building I feel are important and possibly overlooked.

Thank you Steve, I just look past the bad bits and enjoy it for what it is, I just love the history and there are some reasonable B&Bs and hotels now. Matt

I wish I was closer, The tower is one of our treasures and the building sometimes get over looked, I'd love to get access to the winter gardens and the Grand theatre. Anyway thanks for watching.

    Hi Matt.
    Good camera work.
In 1983(ish), I and a few colleagues from work travelled from South London to Blackpool overnight. We left London at around 11pm and stopped for an hours kip (mainly for the benefit of the driver) then arrived at aprox. 6am. Our route was M25, M1, M6, then M55 straight into Blackpool.
We spent the day sightseeing and went into the tower’s main building but didn’t go up to the top because the queue was massive. I remember there being pool tables in the amusement area and the ballroom had a stage. We later invaded a B&B in Bloomfield Road which leads to Blackoool FC after a skinfull in a pub on a corner called ‘The Manchester’, but I don’t know if it is still called that. The pub was overloaded with young women and, as the Ladies loo was always full, they were using the Gents to adjust their makeup in the mirrors. God that was so embarrassing when I was trying to discreetly do my business. 😳
I have recently read that the area is now a tip because holiday makers and sightseers are dropping their rubbish everywhere. Wasn’t like that 40yrs ago. Shame!
    Paul. 👍

Hi Paul, great story, I think its still called the Manchester, I know where you mean at least. It is difficult to say if it is getting worse or a tip, in places there is a real change happening and promenade has been revamped which is always a nice walk. Personally I look past the bad bits, I love the history and vibe of the town, especially the north pier and the pleasure beach. Matt

An interesting fact about the Ballroom. The present Wurlitzer organ, which was installed in 1935, is the most played, recorded, broadcast, filmed, and photographed instrument of its kind in the World. Its sound has become synonymous with the British Seaside thanks to Reginald Dixon's use of "I Do Like to be Beside the Seaside" which was heard literally the World over during his time there. Reg made around 400 records on it and broadcast some 3000 times from the venue. Around 2 million people heard him live in the Ballroom every year during his 40-year residency at the Tower Ballroom (Surely one of the longest artist residencies of all time?)

Indeed and why I have Reginald Dixons signature and picture (along with most of the circus clowns) in my Blackpool tower collection, You are indeed correct to to point out how influential the Tower Wurlitzer and RD were to Popular music and the seaside. Thank you so much the information and taking the time to share, it makes my day to hear from others with similar interests and passion for those historical items still treasured around the country. thanks you for watching

@@dustyshelfcollectables He's so often overlooked by the Towns authorities etc which I find rather incredible. It's probably because "it's only an organ". Thank you for uploading and trying to show the town in a positive light, so many are quick to point out the faults and not the positives the town has.

Have you ever heard of the mud flood theory, in a nut shell it mean certain building are actually hundreds of years older than the history books say. I have a channel full of such buildings. And if you go down the conspiracy root you will find Blackpool Tower was an air ship docking station when first built but its been wiped from our history. There are sevral videos on line about it. Great video and is also great to see it from the inside as I've only viewed it from outside😊.
