    • Convert Super 8 film w...
    This is how i converted my dads Super 8 footage from the 1970s and 1980s. It took me about 1 week to do it and then about 6 months to edit it and put music and sound effects. Some footage is even being sought after by Hollywood directors to put as B-roll in their films and projects. Its a great old format and you should convert it to digital.
    I have seen a resurgence by people like Land Del Ray use it in their videos and Steven Spielberg loves it. He even made a film called Super 8
    Abraham Zapruder captured the Kennedy assassination on Super 8 film while he was standing on the grassy knoll

    I began doing the same 10 years ago, first a rubber belt broke, I replaced it with a large "O" ring. Then the lamp stop working. I sent to a lab, and they joined all the little rolls and flmed in digital, but they didn't correct the focus from one roll to the other, so now I purchased a new lamp and I 'll do it my way just using a semi translucent screen a mirror and a dark room. Great job and cool friend Mr Jerry !!!!! Cheers from Argentina!!!!

      gracias por tu comentario. Yes the lamps are hard to find. Interesting method with translucent screen. I had this old box made wirh a mirror. Seemed to work ok. There are also machines now you can get called wolverine that takes individual pictures. Great to see you are saving old memories 👍😀

    I am working on our home movies that my Dad shot in the late 40s to mid 60's on 8MM. My brother has the 8MM camera which you had to wind up, there was a large butterfly key that folded out on one side and we still have the light bar that attached to the camera and held three flood lights.

    What an interesting video Roberto. You're fortunate to still have those films. It certainly makes a change from going through a pile of old photographs.
    My local camera shop offers a cine-to-DVD service of some sort but it isn't cheap. Actually, converting anything 'old' technology to new technology isn't ever cheap, it seems. I give you full marks for patience for spending 6 months doing all of it as well.

    Thanks for the video! My Father bought me a GAF super 8 camera in 1976, but I had an older regular 8 before that. The older one had a single-frame function that made it fun for special effects. It also had slow motion which would blow through a film roll in less than a minute.
    I just bought a Kodak digitizer that saves on a SD chip in MP4 format plays at 20fps. It only records at 2 fps, so it takes a half hour to convert a roll, but it comes out nice!

      Cool. Yeah the digitize machines are best. I read some of them can get the colors wrong. I guess one could take a proper photo of every frame one by one but that would be painful lol. Dad used to slow down the projector for slow mo and we used to laugh so hard. Good times 😆

    I just recorded super 8 off a screen with a digital video camera. The images flashed regularly on my video camera. Do I need to adjust the FPS on my video camera and the resolution?

    • @robdido
      @robdido  10 месяцев назад

      The super 8 is playing back at 18FPS - so you either have to speed up the projector to match what the digitial camera is recording in. See if you can pick 24fps on the digicam. It will be trial and error to get closest/best results. Or you can play around in post editing software to reduce the flicker and slow down the footage so it doesnt look like its sped up.

    Your prices are crazy. In eastern Europe digitisation is 30-40eur for 10minute and then 3eur/min for 8/16mm film tape. They scan each frame separately and digitise it manually at 24frames/second.

    • @robdido

      It was 20 years ago i inquired. I checked todays prices and seems like $50AUD per small 4 minute reel is the average price today. But lots of different people do it different. Professional transfer is always going to be better than DIY. That wolverine scanner might be a worthwhile investment 😀
