  • Stihl HT 131 power pruner shaft repair. You will need an old shaft to do this job. If you’re like me you have several extra pieces of equipment laying around you are using for parts already. These plastic pieces with the steel tip inside them don’t last long. So I decided to find a way to use the shaft from an old machine and make my own tips that slide into both ends of the power pruning shaft. one for the motor and one for the saw end. this process can you be used on most of these power pruners as long as they have the same splined shaft inside. I’ve already made sex with them for myself text to machines and have two extras with me at all times

I have a HT75 pole pruner. On mine if the pole is not extended the chain head turn as expected and work well. If I extend the pole more that 2 feet the chain head will not turn. When I take the chain head off the end of the pole saw I see the drive shaft slides back into the shaft and does not drive the chain head. If I slide the pole back in it will drive the chain head again. Any clues on what could cause this?

Not sure, but it sounds like the inner shaft is separating when it’s extended. I think I had a similar problem but I don’t remember what the problem was. I’ve owned about 5 of those power pruners. They have all had troubles of some sort. Sorry I couldn’t help more.

Did you find the problem? I have a Ht135 that has the same problem?

Hi, I have 2 with the same problem, where do you buy the parts?

That was the problem I was having. I couldn’t find the repair parts. I scavenged all one weed eaters I could find. I finally made my own as the video shows. You need a splined shaft. I happened to have an old one that was broken. So I salvaged the parts and made my own. I’ve made several and I don’t need them. The first ones I made are working years later.

Have you considered repairing one using something like JB Weld, or another epoxy? I was considering using the original plastic part, filling it with epoxy, then shoving the metal "key" in.

Yes, I’ve tried that. Jb weld and epoxy. Nothing holds for long. I’ve had no problem with the technique I made in the video. In fact, I’ve not needed to repair them again. They are still working several years later. You just need a spare shaft .

Just need a spare splined shaft and if you can save the small square shaft inside.
