I have the same car with manual transmissions and with 254,000 miles. It doesn't burn a drop of oil but it idles funky from time to time, specially with the a/c on. Throttle body is clean, so I'm gonna try the PCV next. For what they cost, it's worth a shot.
Good tutorial couldn’t see because of your hands part of the time however your instruction enabled me to understand. I have a 2009 vibe GT 2.4 L a drink some oil in it idles roughly. I might’ve waited too long as I might have a little bit of a oil leak in one of the gaskets possibly valve cover. I just replace the valve cover gasket about 10,000 miles ago. Thanks again
On the Internet I’ve seen everything from 4 foot pounds to 30 foot pounds. It’s a two-step process.I personally torque them to 17 foot pounds and then do a 90 degrees .You definitely don’t want to stretch your bolts. Most the time I just do it by feel. You want to make sure that you torque them evenly and consistently through the process and follow the torque sequence for the valve cover.
2:55 what does it mean "see if it leaks or not" ? i'm guessing checking engine oil level as miles are put on to see if its dropping? edit: 3:11 you follow up with: "if idles varying" so i'm guessing that's the answer to my question
If the idle varies was referring to the condition of the hose going to the PCV valve. If the hose is questionable, it can lead to variations in your idle, stalling, etc. And the oil level will just have to be checked as the vehicle is driven to see if the PCV valve helped .
Not sure if it works but I heard alot of good things about the new synthetic Valvoline clean and Restore oil. Supposed to remove up to 100 percent of deposits in over 4 changes. Toyota low compression piston rings on the 2.4L are the main culprit, which can lead to the cylinder walls being coated in oil. If you use this, i would consider changing the filter out after about 600 miles and then again at maybe 1000 miles later, because it will likely break up a bunch of deposits the first few thousand miles. Online, I've seen filters that had oil and carbon desolves and caked on them.
Used Castrol GTX High Mileage Synthetic Blend Motor oil. Be timely and consistent with your oil changes and always use a good quality oil. A lot of people don't consistently change oil on time and then use the cheapest bargain price oil they can find to save a couple dollars. Doing this for extended miles can cause oil consumption and hurt the dependability/longevity of the engine.
@@TheAutoTeacher I have the same problem with my camry it's approaching 200 thousand and it's been consuming oil for a while I'm pretty sure it needs to be recalled but I think I'm too late to get in on it
Double check to make sure that they gave you the right part for your vehicle. If it is then you have to remove the valve cover and replace it (Junk Yard) or somehow try to redo the threads .
A trouble code often associated with a faulty PCV valve is a P052E - Positive Crankcase Ventilation Regulator Valve Performance. But usually a PCV valve does not throw a code.
@@TheAutoTeacher cool, gotta try that. I would recommend you try some b12 chem tool in the oil for around 1000 miles and see if that helps. And if you wanted to go even further and soak the cylinders with a little as well
We replaced it knowing that it hadn’t been replaced in probably 100,000 miles. It did help with the idle a little but the vehicle still burns oil. Since they are inexpensive and most manufacturers suggest a PCV should be cleaned or replaced between 20 to 50,000 miles it was definitely worth a shot.
If it's using that much oil and has blowby probably not, I would use a high mileage oil and try some kind of additive to hopefully slow down the consumption. The only other option would be to replace or rebuild the motor.
hey I have a 2012 with a four-cylinder. It looks kind of like the same motor but a little bit different… Do you know if it's as easy with the 2012 as it is with this one?
It would be the same 2007 to 2011 which is a six generation. But think they relocated it for the seventh generation Toyota 2012 to 2017 and it’s harder to access.
@@TheAutoTeacher yeah i actually just had it done. still kinda easy but you hafta take off the passenger wheel and go in thru the bottom. but you DONT have to take off the intake manifold at least!! anyway yeah starting in 2012 there's no power steering in the way
@@dreambuilders4int257 yeah they probably took off the intake manifold. since i wrote that comment i did more research and found that for a 2012 the best way to replace pcv is take off passenger side wheel and go in that way through wheel well. takes like 1.5 hours. somewhere on here there is a video showing that. next time you get it done, insist they do it the way i just mentioned! also you dont need a dealer...any decent mechanic can do it. important - the manual says do it the WRONG way so you need to find a mechanic who trusts your judgment when you say ignore the manual!!

Nearly every time a P0442 is triggered on a Toyota, it will be because the gas cap is missing, improperly affixed (i.e., not closed tightly), or leaking. A PO456 is “Evaporative Emission System (EVAP) Small Leak Detected.” Your car's computer will trigger this code when it thinks that there's a minor leak somewhere in the evaporative emissions control (EVAP) system. Nothing to do with your spark plugs, but the spark plugs are easy to replace in this vehicle.

That hose you pulled off at 1:28, where can I get a replacement? Mine broke when I went to pull it off when doing a valve cover gasket replacement.
Any Toyota dealer or Auto Parts store should have it. I would bring your old hose just to make sure you get the correct size .

Listed in Parts description through Amazon, or at any automotive retail store.
Hello.
Did this fix the issue ? I have the same exact car with 130k and it’s running through oil like crazy. I need help!

It did slow consumption, make sure you're using the proper viscosity and a good quality high mileage oil.
Pull a spark plug, if there is oil, might need to replace valve cover gasket. Not to crazy difficult of job.

Thanks, unfortunately I have a P04401 code for 2003 Camry so I’m trying to figure out what it could be
Can you double check your PO code? Nowhere in the book or PO codes can I find a PO4401 listed.
Sorry it’s P0441
PO441--First would be a faulty gas cap, second would be a faulty purge vacuum switching valve or a leaking hose going to it.
