3:18 I always noticed the black ranger using a firehose was American produced footage spliced in with the Japanese footage even back then. I just assumed it was due to an unmasked actor performing the task in the Japanese footage. It wasn't until the Zyu2 footage was posted that I learned it was due to the wrong mecha/zord in the Japanese footage.
I do feel that the Dairanger suits should have been used in Power Rangers. If I had to speculate on how they could have been incorporated. I would say that they should have been the Dark Ranger suits used in the "Green No More" two parter. As in those episodes, the Dark Rangers were merely repainted putty costumes. Also after that battle concluded, the rangers would be able to obtain the powers of the dark rangers thanks to Tommy, and thus can be used as an upgraded form, similar to what Super Megaforce did with the Gokaiger suits. I feel that could have been a really missed opportunity, because that's when Tommy leaves the group as the green ranger. It would have meant that even though he was no longer a ranger, his impact on the team would still be felt with their upgraded suits. Granted yes, he would still return as the White Ranger.
Kibaranger is actually really short even when morphed. I wonder if that had anything to do with the decision not to use all the Dairanger suits, since it might have been weird if Tommy was 5' 2" when morphed.
I think one reason they did not use the dairanger suits besides the zyuranger suits being so popular is that they would have to think of a reason why zack went from black to green and felt to much work
That's not entirely true. I actually DID notice the differences and questioned them when I was a kid. The sword being different against Robogoat (and another monster that escapes me right now) was instantly noticeable as was Jason, Trini, and Zack sounding different at times. Oh god, you're using the terrible Hikari Senshi subs that decided to translate every name. BTW, Ryuu Ranger's name is Ryo and Houou Ranger's name is Rin. :-)
I noticed somethings as a kid... But didn't know why. The biggest things I remember questioning was why the zord fights were so much more boring early in season 2. I also remember wondering why they'd change locations when they morphed. Didn't realize that they were splicing fights. But i was a stupid kid and didn't care lol
Outdated comment but with the Dairanger footage, there would be heavy editing because sticks were used as weapons (US censorship and influence on kids), groin shots, and the use of Drunken Fist by the Yellow Ranger. That would have been cool to see Trini/Ayesha doing Jackie Chan Drunken Fist.
The Dairanger suits should’ve at least been used instead of the glitter for the “metallic armor”. Or a separate upgrade in general that the rangers can change too when the other forms aren’t enough.
You missed a trick not showing the white ranger using his powers to be a perv to go along with his perviness as a kid. It would have been a great example of "footage they couldn't use in Power Rangers," and a good callback.
I’m still slightly confused, as I’ve noticed this while rewatching them back. Why in season 2 are the thunder Zords fighting different monsters in the stock footage? As you never see them on the same screen and I thought they would’ve used all stock footage for season one and the mega zord? As I’ve noticed some editing issues where the mega zord briefly appears when it’s the thunder zords being used. Why didn’t they use all stock footage of megazord and monsters for season 1, then for season 2 use all stock footage for thunder zords and monster, but creating their own footage with season 1 suits?
Basically, they didn't want to drop the suits and zords from the first season as they'd become so successful that they didn't want to write them off TV too quickly. So they had some new footage commissioned from Japan that helped ease the transition to the new zords - which they eventually had to bring in.
I always hear people preferring Tommy as the Green Ranger, but my favorite will always be the White Ranger. oh yeah, and currently the Dai Ranger intro theme is my favorite of the sentai series ive seen so far.
Yeah I like the Dairanger suits. I have to thank Shout Factory for putting these shows out. Just finished Dairanger and it is a much stronger show than Zyuranger. Zyuranger was a bit insane though so that's a plus for that show.
wait.... didnt any one notice the boy on the left is wearing a blue long sleeve jacket with a 1930's full on color mickey mouse picture on its jacket 8:35
According to rangerwiki saban never got the other five dairanger suits in time for filming season 2, thus why we didn't see them until super mega force.
It's a shame the Dairangers suit were never adapted in the Second Season of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers just like the White Ranger & Thunderzords back then because the other five rangers would have been stronger against Lord Zedd. And to be honest their Dinosaur theme suit never really match with and the Thunderzords Chinese mythology theme don't go well together anyway so I really don't understand what the writer of the Series were thinking when they were making the Second Season of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers.
You missed two obvious points here - FIrstly the Yellow Dairanger was associated with the Kirin - a Japanese mythical beast - this was renamed as the Griffin Thunderzord in Power Rangers... Also Dairanger didn't feature a black ranger but did feature a green ranger - which was also one of the reasons they didn't use the Dai ranger suits. - The Lion thunderzord has notable green accents and highlights to reflect this.
I just finished watching Zyuranger and Dairanger back to back... and while Zyu feels more iconic (if only because I grew up with MMPR) and I'm not quite feeling the giant white torso of the Dai suits...overall I think I kinda like Dairanger as a show and story better than Zyu. The original Dino Megazord/Daizyujin is freaking iconic, the Zyu/MMPR suits are iconic, and the original 6 are iconic, but even when they changed to the Thunder Zords/Mythical Qi Beasts, Season 2 was pretty awesome too (I can totally understand now why they created a totally original Lord Zedd vs the BDSM Gorma hahaha). Wellp.... onto Kakuranger!
No - different actress. But they did use the same voice-actress that they used to dub over the original Japanese footage from season one. So, Japanese footage used a Japanese actress, US footage used a US actress. BOTH were dubbed by a completely different US voice-actress.
In my opinion they should have just made a whole other series with the Dairanger Suits and Mecha but the way that they use the Mecha in season 2 of MMPR was actually pretty good but too bad the suits wasn't adapted at least the main Dairanger Suits but other than that I'm fine with them not adapting Dairanger completely because I feel like most American citizens wouldn't know anything about the themes of the suits themselves so I'm kinda glad they didn't
My only complaint was the Kou’s first meeting Rin. Reminder: it’s supposed to see a kids show, which is completely inappropriate for kids to watch I think.
Yeah, when he's skating around annoying people, we get the point that he's a bit of a brat. They don't really need to show him sexually assaulting someone.
I would've brought in Justin early and made him Kim's little brother. Then they could eliminate the sexual harassment scenes and have him just act like a regular annoying kid.
@@michaelleary9233 yet but Justin wasn’t the white Ranger. Tommy was, which actually did put stop to the sexual inappropriateness. I mentioned in Pomelo Retro’s other video regarding the Carranger vs Turbo Rangers, which Justin was in. They actually censored a lot of stuff in the first five seasons of Power Rangers
@@sarawinardi6745 That's true, it just occurred yo me when I saw Ko as Kibaranger, that's where they got the idea for Justin. Also, Kim mentioned having a brother a couple times but they never showed him, so making Justin her sibling would've helped with his whole confusing homeless kid origin.
Its ok, just ocd kicking in. The Toku fandom is very picky about these things, this wont be the first time someone says this to you, But you did a good job!
@@darsparx Nope- Ri-yoo is also a typical western mistake. Riyo and Ryo are two different names with different pronounciations. Ryo is closer to "yo" than to "Riyo" Also, saying "Go-say" for "Gosei" is also not quite right. Japanese make vocals longer by doubling them, but e and o are special cases so "ei" is the long "e" and "ou" is the long "o". So its more like "Go-seh"
Actually the yin and yang philosophy is about the balance between good and evil. Dairanger is more like gnostic which makes it difficult to adapt 100% but they can do something about the Chinese mythical themes. But i believe they rushed everything up and as they fell on using the old ranger costumes.
No, it's about life- and energy- giving and taking. Yang is preferred because it is like the warmth of the sun hitting you and pumping you up, or the "growth" of verdant life. Yin is basically wilting, death, and the lack of life. When actual Chinese say yinyang shui, they literally just talking about a nutrition drink, often Ensure. But have a Westerner try and translate it, and they likely get all goofy spiritual and stuff, possibly cooking up fantastically mythical concepts such as special elixirs or whatever. Westerners don't get that the Chinese are "superstitiously practical" based on observations of nature.
How on earth did you come to think his name is Ryu? It's clearly Ryou, and they pronounce it several times in the show. Also you should really watch the shoutfactory! subs for these.

I wonder how the show would have fared if they just gave us the actual shows. I feel like I would have loved these as a kid. I never liked the scenes in the juice bar. Also, kids were obsessed with martial arts and Japanese culture back in the day. I'd have probably wanted it to be dubbed though because I hated reading subtitles. I remember when we found out about Japanese versions of shit like Dragon Ball Z, we were all over it. Though, I think part of it was that there were more adult themes in it.

10:56 this is a REAL clip from the show?!?!? I have no words
Yup, they really did that.
The dude who turns into a turtle was a chi beast like the dairangers mecha but he forgot who he was after taking human form as he hated fighting
The Red robot's humanoid mode is based off Son Wu Kong since he has the staff and head band apparently.
Kibaranger is actually really short even when morphed. I wonder if that had anything to do with the decision not to use all the Dairanger suits, since it might have been weird if Tommy was 5' 2" when morphed.
I think one reason they did not use the dairanger suits besides the zyuranger suits being so popular is that they would have to think of a reason why zack went from black to green and felt to much work
Good vid 👌🏾 will definetely watch the other two also
That's not entirely true.
Had the Dairanger villains were used, we would’ve seen the three BDSM villains and one of the Gorma members turning into clay, which is Body Horror
4:20 holy crap that looks sincerely horrifying.
All the Star Wars mention and you forgot the biggest one. The music. The imperial march was used a few times or at least a copy
Nice video! If you're ever up for collaborating on a power rangers vid let me know. Been wanting to do something on it for a while!
Where did you get the unaired zyu2 footage like the Venus flytrap monster fight?
The Dairanger suits should’ve at least been used instead of the glitter for the “metallic armor”. Or a separate upgrade in general that the rangers can change too when the other forms aren’t enough.
You’re a great conversationalist lol before a some what phalic monster appear lmao cue the phalic monster dragging our Jason away
You missed a trick not showing the white ranger using his powers to be a perv to go along with his perviness as a kid. It would have been a great example of "footage they couldn't use in Power Rangers," and a good callback.
It's pronounced Ry-Oh. The U is silent. Not Ryu like the guy from Street Fighter.
Japanese pronunciations are definitely not my strong point.
@@PomeloRetro Also for the record. Go-say Sentai Dairanger. Sorry!
In the translation I watches, it wasn't even Ryu. It was spelled Ryo. Sounded more like "Dy'oh".
I don't like how people pronounce the OU like in French, French and Japanese have nothing in common.
Agreed earnest ladday🙃
Shout factory release is way better than that subtitle One
Shout factory is a blessing from the Sentai Gods
Yep me too
wait.... didnt any one notice the boy on the left is wearing a blue long sleeve jacket with a 1930's full on color mickey mouse picture on its jacket 8:35
Did they got the original Rita to play those scenes with Zed? I am so confused.
8:34 did copyright laws exist yet
I loved Dairanger and all of it's insanity. Strangely I found it more entertaining than Zyrangers and Power Rangers.
The commander from Jetman 11:18
Colonel Shadam - Before Shadam became Padisha Emperor Shadam the IV, leader of Arakis in "Dune"
@@michaelleary9233 really? I was always under the impression that she is an only child
I enjoyed the Dairanger season watching it with the family. I think they should have used the Dairanger suits and footage more so for season 2.
These suits are some of my favorites out of all SS and PR
So basically the whole issue was Saban being cheap
Sorry to be THAT guy but my ocd wont go away until I say this: Its pronounced GO SAY, KEY BA just pronounce it the same way the Japanese do.
Eoin Cullen-O'Neill Japanese pronunciations are definitely not my strong point.
Its ok, just ocd kicking in. The Toku fandom is very picky about these things, this wont be the first time someone says this to you, But you did a good job!
That triggered me too, as well as pronouncing Ryo's name as Ryu rather than Ryo.
@@ThunderDragonRandy I was kinda wondering why he did that....Yeah it ends in a u but but it's typically pronounced as ri-yoo
@@darsparx Nope- Ri-yoo is also a typical western mistake. Riyo and Ryo are two different names with different pronounciations. Ryo is closer to "yo" than to "Riyo"
Also, saying "Go-say" for "Gosei" is also not quite right. Japanese make vocals longer by doubling them, but e and o are special cases so "ei" is the long "e" and "ou" is the long "o".
So its more like "Go-seh"
Maybe i misheard but did he say Gosai and Kibiranger instead of Gosei and Kibaranger??
You forgot to mention lord Zedds Introduction in Power Rangers season 2
If you watch our "Power Rangers the Movie Games" video. We got through that there.
My pronunciations of Japanese names aren't good. That's just going to be a feature of these videos.
As for Shout Factory - I would really like to get my hands on them but they're not cheap to import to the UK.
@@PomeloRetro Are shoutfactorytv.com videos viewable in the UK? That's their official streaming service and they have Jetman-Gaoranger currently available for streaming with new seasons being added after they've been on DVD for a few months.
They should of made diararanger suite the thunder mode, instead of glitter upgrade they got in the third season.
I'm 9 episodes deep into dairanger. I'm enjoying the Super Sentai versions so far.
how in the world is Serpentara so much bigger and more gigantic and fights when in power rangers season 2 she doesnt do nothing but serve as a base for zed? lol
Serpentera isn't sentient therefore it's an it
Why was Saban, create they're own original show?
Toei own supet series
I believe that Thor from operation overdrive helped Zordon create the thunder zords.
That naked way more sense when I was a kid the white ranger always looked so off compared to the rest of the team that’s because he’s from a different team
The Dairanger suits and the Kakuranger suits were bypassed by Saban because the Zyuranger (MMPR in the west) were still "marketable". As a kid, I stopped mmpr after they changed into the thunder and ninja zords. I missed the OG zords and when they made tommy the new leader so I was done. Also that didn't sound like a fart to me... it's really subjective LOL also KIBAranger not Kibiranger.... everytime the kibi comes in it hurts. but hey bro I LOve this review still
Its funny how you keep comparing it to Star Wars, and there's a piece of background music in the very first episode that is just straight-up The Imperial March.
It's crazy how they taken so much.
PLEASE DO MORE, I LOVE YOUR VIDEOS MORE THAN LINKARA🤓 and I love his videos😎
Red Dairanger's name is Ryo, not Ryu, but yes his ranger form is named Ryu Ranger
Red Dairanger is called “Ryuu Ranger” his character name is Ryo, pronounced “Yo”
dairanger is a great season also what subs did you use
It's called Kiss Asian. The shows are pre-subbed.
figured kiss asian was curious as to whether it was tv nihon, grown ups in spandex, overtime the sub group who translated it i was curious as i have the shout release and it was weird seeing dairen oh referred to as great unified star lord and ryuuseioh as dragon star-lord also kameo as great infinity.
yea the zords in dai did more stuff and even serpentara was bigger in dai than in power rangers. they obviously didnt use serpentara footage from dai
@@PomeloRetro - Shout! Factory made an official English-subtitles release on DVD and posted them for free on their website? Why not support the official release there? While I'm watching officially subbed Super Sentai seasons on Shout! Factory's website, I watch unofficial English subs of SS seasons that haven't been officially subbed on KissAnime.
@@razielfaustus9733 I'm pretty sure those were Hikari Senshin's subs. However, I agree with TDP, there was no reason to use fansubs for something that has an official DVD release. Though, I'm hoping it was more he does have the DVD set and didn't know how to rip the discs whereas the ones he got were easily downloadable.
So there was a kid Ranger before Justin
Man i hate they didnt switch over too the dairangers suits
in Japanese the zord is called DaiRenOu
