  • Good evening everyone and welcome to my channel! In the second installment of the first collecting video of 2022, we head back out west to Hamilton Illinois to finish mining some geodes! You’ve seen this place a couple times before, but this time around I was able to focus a bit more on the film making side of things!
We visit Jacob’s Geode Mine (find some info on the mine here! findingrocks.com/cgi-bin/viewl...) for some morning collecting just before a storm rolled in, so there weren’t many other folks there, in fact, the first 2 hours I was the only one there! I was able to get 2 buckets filled this trip, and ventured a bit out of my comfort zone to a new spot! I got a lot of footage this time around, so this will be second part of the 2 videos. Find the first part here:

The song you heard in the beginning was made entirely from sounds I personally recorded in my shop, and mixed and mastered into that song with the help of my brother, the TRUE Nick Cannon! So big shoutout to my little bro for all the help!
And another big shoutout to #hitechdiamond for the awesome equipment they provide to the lapidary community that I’m fortunate enough to have the chance to work with here on my channel and share with all of you! All that’s left is a Cabking! cough cough

I've always wanted to do this. I almost got the chance to dig at Richardson's Ranch out in Oregon a few years ago, but we missed the last tour that day by 20min.

Yea. The friends I was with arnt as excited as me about that stuff. We still spend a couple hours picking through the stuff they had there pre dug and labeled (which was nice because I'm just learning still) I bought a bag full and need to learn how to cut and polish. That's part of why I like watching your videos. I learn from watching and doing waaay better then books. My next goal is a way to start polishing.

@@catstyf7151 that’s great to hear! I’m glad that my videos help you out! One of the videos I want to try and make is the polishing method I used prior to getting my machine from hitech. I used a orbital sander with Diamond wheels! Only thing is mine is kind of burnt out and only runs in highest gear, so that’s not going to work well to reach people to use properly. I may replace it for sake of creating the video but it’s not in the budget currently. Check out rookie rockhounding if you haven’t! He’s based out of Australia and I got into polishing using his method! He’s got some great informational content out there!

Love it Tyler. How many buckets did you pull out of there? What does it cost to dig there?

I'll be in Indiana geode mining soon and I'm wondering if you can give me some good spots to check out?! I'll be ablout 20 mins southeast of indianapolis because I heard that is a good spot. Thanks!

There are some good places out that way, I prefer going further south, south of lake Monroe, the creeks are loaded with geodes. That’s the area I refer people to. Reminder, lake Monroe you may not collect at. I haven’t made it down yet for the season, so I’m not sure the places I hunt are accessible or not so I can’t send you to any of those places yet. I hope to get down in a month or so! Our son is born in a couple weeks!

Check out some of my Indiana geode collecting content, it’s a LOT different down there, you don’t need tools like this location. Actually, most places on southern Indiana tools like this are not allowed, but trust me, you find a good creek they’re EVERYWHERE!
