If there is no transparency in electoral funding, then the so called "democratic" aspect in that country is a total farce......
Given the massive advances in technology, electoral funding should be banned. Cost of campaigning by political parties should be funded entirely by the Govt. A viable mechanism could be evolved and put in place for this.....
The entire political campaign for election's could be through the media. No physical meetings, rallies, poster pastings are necessary.,..

The irony is that the tax payer earning 50,000 Rs should disclose their source of income but the tax collectors is confidential. Laws should be equal to all.

    • @gabbar51ngh

Income tax isn't equitable to electoral bonds. They're basically donations.
If tomorrow who you donate to is disclosed then it's revealed which political party you're supporting. It's akin to revealing who you're voting for.
It's anonymous for a genuine reason. A person could be targeted if he overwhelmingly funds one party which others may not like.

I think having a cap is a much better option (so that no matter how rich u are, u can only donate so much). This is because, as much as I agree with ur proposition, we must understand that if you donate some X amoint to a Y party and that is disclosed; the point of having anonymous elections is beaten. I mean, when u cast vote, it is secret; but then ur name is disclosed and everybody knows u voted for whom. Now, in a state like Bengal where any voter even slightly supporting non-TMC candidate is beaten to d€@th, disclosure is like putting a bounty on him/her.

Only ₹ 9500 crores collected in five years? That is, ₹ 1900 crores per year? This is a piddling amount considering the size of Indian economy which is more than $ 3 trillion annually today. The government spends ₹ 50,000 crores ($2 billion) for conducting the elections. More money should have come from private contributions to political parties. But at least we now know how much money the political parties are collecting as donations.

This democracy has not been working for the majority, as has been since independance. Somewhat better on the whole, since the present Govt. came into office. The majority is being tharasehd around by the many minority parties, almost all of them not much bothered about the country or it's people but themselves- to grab money and power.
Smt. Anyone who makes for their own benefits without loving their idological party, will do the same for NATION too. As they will always consider themself more important than Nation.

The anonymity of the donors protects them while funding electioneering.

In India, it’s an open secret that people take money/goods/services for voting particular candidate. So, until this practice stops, political parties would need tonnes of money to win elections.
