Ok, all jokes aside, this was likely the SCARIEST moment in the entire Pacifist route for any new player.
You know what I just realized? It's Raining Somewhere Else. You can hear rain in the distance all throughout the song. The rain is somewhere else, and seems much more distance than it is because of the serene music covering it up. But it's not as far as it sounds. Now, picture this. You're on a Pacifist Route. Everyone's laughter and joy makes it seem as though a Genocide Route is so far away, almost impossible. But, in reality, it's just the click of a few buttons away. So, the serene music covering up the sound of the rain is like the joy of the Pacifist Route covering up the despair of the Genocide Route. It seems so far away, and it is somewhere else, but in reality, that somewhere else is very close by.
For some reason this song makes me think of a city at night
This song got me thinking, about Sans. I hate how Sans is so loved, but for the wrong reasons. Canon Sans is someone who looks after the other monsters, he likes making others laugh, he cares very deeply for his brother, and his past/backstory is very mysterious, and so is Papyrus's. Canon Sans hates making promises, because he knows he can't keep them because of Frisk. I do believe Sans has depression, I mean, at least after Frisk fell. He doesn't know what's going to happen next, what route that will be taken, but he can't change anything about it, because the player will become even more curious and start experimenting. Sans is a really caring guy, and I can understand how Sans is so loved, but it's for the wrong reasons.
I see this as Sans's true theme.
The funniest thing about this song is fact it's called "sans date" in game files
This is such an underrated Undertale song.
The first 40 seconds of this song is easily one of the most beautiful piano pieces I've ever heard.
this is the musical manifestation of smiling through the pain
when we learned there was much more to sans, and where my heart stopped for a good long minute
"An umbrella? But it's not raining."
honestly thinking about making “take care of yourself, kid, ‘cause someone really cares about you.” my senior quote
At 10 years old, I played Undertale for the first time.
"An umbrella? But it's not raining..."
It's 4am. I can't sleep, so I popped out of bed and am staring out the window. Took a honestly solid picture of the big dipper on my phone. Decided to go back to some of my favorite comfort songs and write a little something about how they make me feel. Undertale has some absolute bangers, but this is my favorite. There's something about this song man. A lot of the Undertale OST makes me feel pumped up, motivated, energized, hopeful or straight up sad. This song does a little bit of all of that. 2014-16 was a pretty rough time in my life, it was a lot of downs and not many ups. Struggling to get over a relationship, school wasn't going well at all, family stuff, blah blah. Hearing this song for the first time was refreshing. It made me feel like things would eventually be okay. I didn't feel invigorated or get a new lease on life or anything like that, but with each beat of this song, with each raindrop, it felt like I was taking a step forward. That people were built for this. People go through excruciating times in their life every day, things I cant even imagine. But they move forward. Sometimes one step at a time, sometimes 2, sometimes you just sit your ass on the ground for a while. But as long as you keep walking at your own pace, eventually, you'll get through the storm. You'll take a deep breath, look behind you, and realize it's raining somewhere else.
"Y o u ' d b e d e a d w h e r e y o u s t a n d ."
Rain is often referencing to tears.
That feeling when you just realized that the melody of this song is basically Sans’s motif. Oh my god, Toby, you’re a genius.
I could honestly listen to this for hours. It's that good.
Friendly reminder that Sans isn't making a threat here, he's genuinely feeling guilty about the possibility of killing a nice kid like Frisk. Thanks for coming to my ted talk
