  • amzn.to/3thqOzc - Code Reader Bluetooth OBD2 (I couldn't find the brand that I have, but this looks the same)
I couldn't find the Intake Air Resonator on Amazon, but the Toyota Part Number is: 178930A060 or 17893-0A060
amzn.to/3zOEFiM - New Air Intake Hose Air Cleaner Hose 2pcs 17881-0A060 Replacement For 2000-2004 Toyota Avalon (These are the two smaller intake hoses to the throttle body)
amzn.to/3kSqNxF - Toyota 17882-0A010 Air Cleaner Hose (This is the single intake hose between the air filter housing and the intake resonator)
amzn.to/3tdqam8 - New Genuine Toyota MAF Sensor
Just a quick video showing how I found and fixed a vacuum leak and reset the check engine light on a 2001 Toyota Avalon. This is the same as 2000-2004.
The P0171 and P0174 codes mean that, on both banks of the engine, the fuel system is running weak or a vacuum leak exists allowing unmetered air into the intake causing a lean condition.
After a quick visual inspection I found that the small plastic nipple on the Intake Air Resonator had broken off and the hose wasn't connected so air was able to leak into the intake after the MAF sensor.
I happened to have the spare part, but you can also buy the new part along with replacement hoses by clicking on the links above or maybe find one in a junkyard or buy it used online. If I didn't have the part, this would be pretty easy to fix with some epoxy and a small plastic vacuum hose splice or something similar. It's pretty common for the rubber intake hoses to dry out and crack as well which would also cause a vacuum leak. Another thing you may want to check is the MAF sensor. Sometimes they are just dirty and need to be cleaned, or sometimes they just go bad. In this case, it was an easy fix and the check engine light has stayed off.
    Thanks for watching!

Well, of course your check engine light is OFF. You will never see it again until at least trip 2 after clearing the codes.

Hi Dan, thanks for the video but where is the obd port actually located. I think Australian Toyotas are different they have an OBD1 until 2005

Oh, wow, I didn’t know that there was a difference on Australian Toyota models with the OBD systems. On U.S. models, the OBD2 port is just under the dash of the driver’s side (left side over here). Best of luck with it!

I have p0440 on my Avalon 2000. I already spent $700 on changing the Canister & Solenoid but the code still coming up after. Do you have any idea .... or do you think smoke test will help to find the gas leak. I saw some smoke machine selling on Amazon around $200. My emission test will be in coming May ...8^(

Doing a smoke test is really a great way to find leaks in the evap system. You can make a diy smoke machine for really cheap. The gas cap is another place that is common for leaks. Might do that if you haven't already.
      Best of luck to you!

I have another video that might help you find that leak. I had the same code Po456 and so I made a small smoke machine. It was easy to make and I still use it. You could also buy a cheap smoke machine on amazon. Here's a link to the video: ruclips.net/video/3g8BDO6OI5I/видео.html
      Best of luck to you!

@@DantheFixitMan thanks the car still runs fine luckily it’s 20 years old and I can get inspected with the check engine light on? My thought was it may be a charcoal canister Or gas cap?

@@DantheFixitMan another thing mine is a 2003 Toyota Avalon the front engine mount had vacuum lines going to it I did replace it with one that does not have vacuum Lines.I did cap off all of the lines that might be the issue

@@leonarddroneview6947 yes, the gas cap is common too, but a lot of the little vacuum lines get old and brittle and seem to split along the ends. Best of luck with finding the leak.
      Take care,
