It wasn't a single person. There are many different sign languages and they each have a different history. They develop naturally any time enough deaf people are together. E.g. some sign languages actually started in schools for the deaf where there were no teachers that knew any kind of sign language. They would try to teach deaf kids to speak or to read and write or to do trades, but the deaf kids spent so much time together they started sharing their own gestures and eventually everyone in the school was using them and younger kids would learn them from older kids when they started school. Other sign languages evolved when there was a community that had a very high percentage of deaf people. It's like spoken languages though in that no one really 'invents' a language usually. It's just something that happens when humans spend time together.
As other commenters said, ti wasn't one person. however, gallaudet is a figure to look up to and most likely started a chain reaction to led to programs like this.
His skin is just so flawlessly beautiful!! I cannot stop looking at him how beautiful he is.. After seeing his first smile, my heart just opened even wider... I would LOVE to learn sign language.. Really thought about teaching myself.. After watching this, I'm definitely going to do it... This is why I want my husband to win the lottery.. He plays those ones with the numbers.. I don't care about living a life of luxury or carrying around a damn Prada.. I just want to help.. I just want to help so many people because I would just take their suffering so that they didn't have too! I've always been this way, my husband says that's what he loves so much about me but, I get so frustrated because I really can't do anything because MONEY is EVERYTHING!!!
Swnsasy _ you could always run a fundraiser. Name something you’re good at. Hold an event to teach people what you’re good at or have a “ladies night” doing something you enjoy. Donate the proceeds to a legitimate non-profit organization that gives money to these kids for education.
Or as an alternative (idk how finances work in your household lol) you could tell your husband that for a year, instead of buying lottery tickets (like if he bought one every day on his lunch break), instead put that money into a donation jar. You could do that to. Like instead of buying your favorite soda everyday or something, put that money into the donation jar instead. 💁🏽♀️ Just some ideas! Every single penny counts. I think people get overwhelmed by the idea of charity and feeling inadequate to these rich people who write a $50,000 check. We all cant do that and it’s okay. And if money is still that tight, you could always reach out to the organizations to ask how you can help if you can’t give financially!
The fact that Patrick looked so dejected and depressed to smiling and laughing at his first lesson. Just brought tears to my eyes. And his father is so lovely and kind. He genuinely wants his son to communicate and to cinverse with him. That is love right there.

There used to be a video in YT edited to include only the Patrick parts, plus a clip where he signed (very clumsily and with narrow vocabulary, though, as he had been in the Sign Language course only for couple of days yet) that he wants to become a teacher when he grows up so he can teach deaf children
It is amazing to see how they learn it and how much they are willing to give it a try! I am so impressed by people there with limited facilities but still trying their best to do the education work! I went to an deaf school last semester for some tour as a educational student in Sweden. I cry every time I see this. Not just because of Patrick's transformation from a boy who was lost and trapped inside his own head, who was sad and defeated, to a boy whose face lights up with happiness and excitement and renewed hope where before there had been none. But for ALL of these students who not only gained the ability to communicate, who finally got a voice, but they also gained a community of people they could talk to and people like them who could understand each other. None of them had probably ever met someone else who was like them. Before this, Patrick and the other students were effectively alone in the world, and with gaining a voice and a community and being given, really for the first time, a name, they were no longer alone, shut off from everyone around them, they were a part of something.

Thank You for bringing these stories to us. I am very touched by the way you captured the moments when a language opens a whole new world and sense of belonging for these people. I really appreciate the humble approach. Thank you for inspiring and reminding me of giving people a voice. I love this video.
I know sign language I learnt it in school. I’m actually proud that I know sign language as it helps people a lot I know I don’t know any other language
I am deaf in my left ear and have profound hearing loss in my right so this especially breaks my heart to see that these kids are ridiculed and ostracized and secluded away from normal society. I can not even imagine having to go without education and being trapped inside my own mind without the ability to communicate and show everyone that I am not mentally disabled, just hearing impaired. I think these adults who are helping these children learn sign and provide education are AMAZING! God bless you! 💙
I'm not even five minutes in and I'm already tearing up. This is so touching. Communication is such an essential part to our lives. So many of us take it for granted. I'm truly considering learning sign language now.
I never really thought about this. This is amazing. It’s really easy for as Africans living in capital cities and bigger towns to be ignorant to what a vast majority of our people go through. This is why this social media movement of 'Africans don’t live in huts and aren’t poor and hunger stricken’ really doesn’t sit well with me because um yes some of us do live in huts and there’s nothing wrong with that. A majority of our population lives below the poverty line which isn’t necessarily a bad thing as most of our people who live in the countryside live off the land. I don’t even know what I’m trying to say. This is really eye opening 👏🏾
This made me cry. I'm thankful that Raymond exists and helps others. Patrick's transformation was beautiful and his smile was one of the most beautiful I've ever seen
My son is blind and has learning problems including autism which contributed to him being non verbal (he mumbles and make noises) but has no communication skills or understanding of what we are saying to him, which is really hard and frustrating for him. but seeing this boy who actually has the normal intelligence and abilities of your average person is very sad indeed. Knowing they'd (his caretakers/parents etc) would of been able to teach him is actually awful and just sad. His whole life not being able to translate or talk to anyone nor explain how he feels or what he needs etc I can't begin to imagine how hard that would be for him.
His smile in the class was so heartwarming, at that moment, he felt joy, he realised he wasnt alone, and all of that within one single session. Amazing, the smallest things are the most amazing things.
Edwar's (the last boy) neighborhood helping him to afford school sounds like a good way to help end the stigma attached to children with deafness. The parents can explain to people what is true and by donating the neighbors prove and seal their devotion to be kind towards children who are deaf.
It was really nice to see the interviewer have a short convo with Peter in sign. It's hard to find interviewers that actually try to be polite and communicate ! Unreported world is pretty good for that for the most part 👍
Don't you think that deaf/ hard of hearing people would be particularly interested in this topic? A program like Unreported World would definitely have the budget to add subtitles and generally Channel 4 are amazing with accessibility - it just seems like a complete oversight at this stage.
@@pumpkin0096 it wasnt negative it was constructive. Great things can be improved too. 😁 especially if you are deaf it would be nice to be able to read real subs ☺

London Bell yes the world would be a whole lot better with a lot of such like acts.
feitras pace he teaches those kids sign language
i can't explain how much this video motivated me
Thank You for bringing these stories to us. I am very touched by the way you captured the moments when a language opens a whole new world and sense of belonging for these people. I really appreciate the humble approach.
Thank you for inspiring and reminding me of giving people a voice.
I love this video.
We need more people to understand sign language so that we can all communicate and get along.
Should be a module is every school instead of mental math
Good point. If people round the world would know a bit of signlanguage this could sometimes make a real difference in making deaf people join in.
@Dark one Thank you! God bless you too! ❤️
I'm not even five minutes in and I'm already tearing up. This is so touching. Communication is such an essential part to our lives. So many of us take it for granted. I'm truly considering learning sign language now.
To see the beautiful smiles of these students! It’s truly so heartwarming to watch the power of connection at work!!!
He's quite a good looking dude
TheAnonymousChipmunk ikr
yep
When he smiiiiiiiled
That smile means happiness!!
Oh man that got me, I cried.
Tricky Green I'm at work, tears are coming of my eyes and I'm trying so hard to stop them, they got me too...
Seeing him smile when he was at school just made my day. How beautiful ❤️
All these children are so beautiful God bless them 😭
The damn smile.
It made me so happy.
That hes learning to communicate.
Please teach the parents and their siblings basic sign language skills too! That will make their family life a lot better!!
Bless all the deaf people and the people that go out their way to try to help them. 💗
Omg that smile was so incredible i don’t think my heart has melted so much... ❤️❤️
I can't say anything, it's all said below BUT omg my heart is full of love and pain at the same time
My son is blind and has learning problems including autism which contributed to him being non verbal (he mumbles and make noises) but has no communication skills or understanding of what we are saying to him, which is really hard and frustrating for him. but seeing this boy who actually has the normal intelligence and abilities of your average person is very sad indeed. Knowing they'd (his caretakers/parents etc) would of been able to teach him is actually awful and just sad. His whole life not being able to translate or talk to anyone nor explain how he feels or what he needs etc I can't begin to imagine how hard that would be for him.
I'm a man but 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭💔 look at his smile 😭😭😭😭😭😭
Seeing him smile made me smile 😊
His smile in the class was so heartwarming, at that moment, he felt joy, he realised he wasnt alone, and all of that within one single session. Amazing, the smallest things are the most amazing things.
I didn't even make it 5 mins in before I had tears, Raymond....You're an angel. 😇
Edwar's (the last boy) neighborhood helping him to afford school sounds like a good way to help end the stigma attached to children with deafness. The parents can explain to people what is true and by donating the neighbors prove and seal their devotion to be kind towards children who are deaf.
this is so wholesome i was crying like four minutes in goodbye i have transcended this earthly realm
Patrick is such a sweet boy. You could see in his eyes that he is a genuinely a great person. Nobody deserves to live like this. God Bless them! 🙏
It was really nice to see the interviewer have a short convo with Peter in sign. It's hard to find interviewers that actually try to be polite and communicate ! Unreported world is pretty good for that for the most part 👍
A video about deafness without subtitles during voiceovers hmmm
Don't you think that deaf/ hard of hearing people would be particularly interested in this topic? A program like Unreported World would definitely have the budget to add subtitles and generally Channel 4 are amazing with accessibility - it just seems like a complete oversight at this stage.
Turn on the closed caption feature.
These are only auto-generated captions, which granted, are better than nothing, but really are not sufficient for those who rely on them.
Y'all always find something negative to say. Turn on the caption for peace sake fuck!
@@pumpkin0096 it wasnt negative it was constructive. Great things can be improved too. 😁 especially if you are deaf it would be nice to be able to read real subs ☺
Thank you, Raymond, for sharing your knowledge with people who really needed someone like you.
All the chrildren are so beautiful❤
Thats the Look of a typical sub-saharan african Look!
@@roddy_ricch9392 well damn they all beautiful...
The look on Edward’s face when he went back to school, melts my heart 😭😭❤️❤️
