Buying DW is not just about quality, and the best hardware and shells on earth, but their service is unbeatable!!! I ordered my kit and when the retailer fucked up the order John Good called me personally to assure me he would solve the problem and he did!
Thanks so much for watching and your feedback! We know that all drum companies have great gear and we are not here to say anything bad against another company. We are here to push forward and improve on what we believe our unique approach has already upheld with ourselves...if that makes sense. :)
this isn't just a drum, this is such a wonderful, THING that makes a glorious sound that any snare has made. beautiful is not the right word, but it's the first one that comes to mind.
I took the plunge 4 months ago and got a US made DW kit right off the floor at a retailer. I love it! The quality & sound is exceptional. I had a slight hardware problem after a few months & Mike in DW customer service had a new part to me within a few days. Very responsive folks. These drums are great.
DW & John Good deserve every penny they earn, no other manufacturer love or push the boundaries of their products, like they do... they are 20,000 leagues above any other company, go DW !
I think SuperSolid Snare is just the better snare I played in my life. Thanks DW family for all your wonderfull products. I met John Good in Paris last September, that was a very great moment.
One thing that is often overlooked are the people and companies like HAAS who develop, create, and build these CNC machines, as well as the engineers who maintain them. The absolute precision and consistency of these machines is remarkable technology, as is all the technology and machinery used to build these beautiful drums. We often take these machines for granted, but wow, very cool.
I really enjoyed this video. Those are pricey but you can see the work and expense that goes into making them. I have a DW Collectors Solid from 2004 (the old process w/ glued in re-rings) and it's a killer snare.
Thanks so much for choosing DW! We love hearing you like your DW's so 100 times is totally fine with us. :) For the Super Solid the deepest we can is a 5.5x14. We found the shell had a quick decay as is because of the thick wall the Super Solid has already. We hope this can work for you. You will still get the deep sounding, projecting sound you are looking for, for a metal snare drum application. Thanks again!
Geez...I may have just found the drum that could replace my 1961 Radio King. You’ve got to hand it to dw, they never stop pushing for the next thing in wood, whether that’s composition, construction, or both. What an R&D effort!
Ok we hear you Mark. Currently we are only making snares out of wood we have in stock. We can say that any of the Super Solids will have a high end pitch because of the density of the wall thickness.
Thanks so much!! We very much appreciate your feedback and your educated opinion about our gear. You can't have our man Filiberto's job though. He's been at it for a while now. :)
Thanks so much! We are stoked to hear you are liking the sound of our snare drums. Our Exotic finishes are another ply of wood over the outside of our shells. They can be pretty tricky to adhere to our shells because of Burl marks and sap content. Sometimes we will get a run of a certain Exotic wood with too much sap content and have to discontinue that style until we can get a dryer strain.
One of my students has one and it's the most incredible sounding snare i've ever heard. I ordered mine today !!! Should be in my hands in the near future. Very excited !!!
Great question. We originally name the rings "reinforcement" to strengthen the shell but when we figured out how strengthen the shell without the rings and took the rings out, it changed the sound of the shell dramatically. The reinforcement rings/hoops are there for sound qualities for the Super Solid helping the focus the shells note.
Such a welcome change watching videos from you guys! When talking about their drums; almost all other drum manufacturers just put down other companies: "We do this because we care more about the sound than any other manufacturer" or "no other drum company has the passion and knowledge that we do". So refreshing to hear John Good actually compliment other drum shells whilst respectfully stating what DW does differently and why without pointing out every single flaw in the competition. Awesome!
I got a matching 3/8th's supersolid with my new kit. It's the best sounding maple snare drum I have ever heard. Super sensitive, and gets explosively loud and cutting.
Brother's & Sister's, i'd just like to say without a doubt the DrumWorkshop Super Solid 5.5 X 14, 3/4" Snare Drum is a work of art. The sound is simply outstanding from the lightest touch to a thunderous drum roll. And the finish that I requested ( Natural Curly Maple is a sight to see )......Much Kudos to John Good & Bo Mathew's @ DrumWorkshop for making it all possible. Thanks Guy's !
I am truly impressed. That is amazing in design. I had the pleasure of meeting John when I did the factory tour in Feb this year. Good news, I have now got a SCC kit being built for me. 8" Maple X, 10" Cherry, 12" Cherry, 14" maple X, 16" VLX and 22" VLX++. In a Black Velvet Finish. I can't wait! Keep up the Innovation!
@Mjbabycakes7072 great questions. It's true that due to the unique bending process, the shell doesn't want to spring out of round. So the thick sections are not primarily for strength. Instead, they primarily function as sound enhancers, pushing more vibrational energy to the center of the shell giving a punch, more focused sound which DW Drums are famous for. Because the hoops are all part of the solid shell (not glued in), there is no more extra glu than if they were not there at all.
We are so happy to hear you are liking the Super Solid! Thanks to you for your kind words and feedback! John Good is the best right?!? We are positive it was nice talking to him. :)
@Pmrs745 No worries! Your Finish Ply kit is a Collector's Series. The finish ply will not affect the sound of your shell. We have since changed the design of our badges. Sorry about that. Black Diamond is great finish. Good choice!
For the Super Solid they will come with a Maple shell only. We have our Super Solid Edge snares that you can combo any of these woods - Maple, Walnut, Cherry and Red Oak. Of course you can finish these shells with any of our available Exotic woods.
We are so happy to hear you are liking your Super Solid! There was actually a time when we did not have True Hoop written of the first version of our True Hoops. Sounds like you are there!
@killjoyshidae1208 Great question! The solid shells are one solid piece of wood without plies basically so we can not apply the SSC technology to these types of shells. The SSC works for shells with a ply configuration. Meaning that with different amounts of plies and varying grain patterns within those plies together make up SSC. Hope that makes sense. Can be a little tech sometimes to explain. :)
We have in the past for some hard working Fire Fighters for a 9/11 concert but that would be one of the only times. We figure there are some great marching drums out there that we can stay with what we have been doing.
No we have quite a variety of different woods and metals we make snare drums out of. If you are going to look for a Super Solid just use those words to describe the snare you are looking for with your dealer!
I have a PDP platinum kit in black oyster sparkle, I couldn’t afford the DW exotic kit Of my dreams. Dw drums are the best sounding drums I have ever played, but this pdp kit for the money comes awful close, pretty amazing.
Hi, The hoops allow us to make thin or thick shells. I wouldnt make a 3/8 thick shell without a hoop. The thicker ones may not require the hoop though, its more for consistency. JG
We long for you! Great to hear your PDP kit is working great for you. Enjoy! The Super Solid had proved itself to tricky of a process on any other type of drum beyond a snare. A bass drum would be at a very high pitch with this type of shell. Thanks again!
Thanks for asking! The main sound difference between Oak and Maple is the brightness or darkness. Oak has a darker tone in comparison to Maple's bright high attack. Oak will still have the attack that Maple does though. The Super Solid on it's own comes in Maple only. For the Super Solid Edge snare we offer any combination of Maple, Walnut, Cherry or Red Oak.
hayy john im from australia how do i get super soild snare i want get a maple and oak and also interested in a edge snare how do i speak to you to see this is the sound im chasing
@19731973Scott Nice! Sounds like you are getting stocked up on the DW snares. :) We are very happy to hear that you are enjoying your DW snares! The Super Solid and the Steel snare are a great choice also!
We appreciate your feedback. We hope there will be a more cohesive way for you guys to get DW out there. We will do our best to insure that for the future.
@Salzcamino that's a good question! It is there more for sound, than structural reinforcement. Adding weight to the top and bottom of the shell via reinforcement hoop both increases the tension and resonant pitch of the shell, as well as delivers a more focused sound.
holy shit this is really cool! i worked with a lot of cnc machines, did steam bending, laminating.. this is something else! really curious about that sound! great work DW!
@MadHatGamer2 We have experimented with similar ideas but they all haven't panned out as well as we wanted. We are always at the "drawing board" though. Thanks for your suggestions!
@ZinayH well then you'll be happy to know that DW snares range from $764 (FinishPly Collector's Series ) to $1699 (Exotic Edge) LIST, which means the retail or "street" price will be SIGNIFICANTLY less. Super Solid's LIST for $1299 to 1699. Remember , the actual price will be much less. Contact your local dealer for exact pricing: drum.know-where(dot)com/drum/ Happy shopping! We hope your wish comes true ;) thanks for the interest.
We want the mass at the top and bottom to ensure roundness as best we can. JG We currently only offer the 3 thicknesses, but are always experimenting with new ideas.
I gotta say, I've never been a fan of DW products, I always thought they were way overpriced and you could get something just as good for 10x cheaper, but I'm unbelievably impressed by this! Well done DW!
John loves his job! We love him for that! Thanks for watching!
Buying DW is not just about quality, and the best hardware and shells on earth, but their service is unbeatable!!! I ordered my kit and when the retailer fucked up the order John Good called me personally to assure me he would solve the problem and he did!
Wow! Thats pretty incredible! Bet you wouldn't get Ludwig doing that.. I've hear their customer service is awful.
Mike C you’re lucky you got to talk to john good :0
Amazing! This is why DW is the Rolls Royce of drums.
Agree 100%
Sorry, Imho it's CRAVIOTTO!
@@matthewpaluch777 Craviotto is more like the Bugatti of drums.
Thanks so much for watching and your feedback! We know that all drum companies have great gear and we are not here to say anything bad against another company. We are here to push forward and improve on what we believe our unique approach has already upheld with ourselves...if that makes sense. :)
John Good is pretty much the coolest guy in the industry. I really need to own a DW..
this isn't just a drum, this is such a wonderful, THING that makes a glorious sound that any snare has made. beautiful is not the right word, but it's the first one that comes to mind.
This is why they’re the best. The passion and innovation.
Holy shit.. I'm totally blown away by this, so awesome!
I'll definitley buy a DW drumkit in the future!

5:08 his ring hits that shell, and just that sound already shows that this shell is gonna make an awesome drum :o
Thanks and thanks!! We are very happy to hear your kind words and to make your kit for you! Very innovative shell choices!

agree.
I want super solid snare drum in so much... just gorgeous!
It helps your chances if your are touring and have a big web presence but we consider everyone. Thanks for considering us!
I really enjoyed this video. Those are pricey but you can see the work and expense that goes into making them. I have a DW Collectors Solid from 2004 (the old process w/ glued in re-rings) and it's a killer snare.

If I was to be endorsed or sponsored by any drum manufactuer, it would be DWdrums 100% all the. You guys rock!

i saw one of these at a guitar center today. i hit it once, swear to god i got goosebumps. if i had the money, id definitely buy one.
Yes, I want one!
I've met him twice at Dales Drum Shop in Harrisburg, PA. Super nice guy, and he signed my DW Craviotto solid shell snare for me too!
Ok we hear you Mark. Currently we are only making snares out of wood we have in stock. We can say that any of the Super Solids will have a high end pitch because of the density of the wall thickness.
Thanks so much! We are flattered you would choose us!
Thanks so much!! We very much appreciate your feedback and your educated opinion about our gear. You can't have our man Filiberto's job though. He's been at it for a while now. :)

Wow, John Good is just amazing. Very innovative. Already changed drum history!
Keep up the amazing work John!
Simply amazing! DWs the best in my opinion.
Thanks for choosing PDP! Enjoy!
@TheLogitech25 Thank you so much for the kind words! Glad to hear of your satisfaction. enjoy!

It was love at first time. Thank you John Good for the video how to tune all drum sell
I absolutely LOVE John Good!
David Curtis Drumming
a supersolid kit would be interesting indeed! ;)
True! We are sure there would be some original tonal qualities.
Thanks again!
great question. I forwarded it to JG himself. He's on a wood hunt right now, but as soon as I hear back, I will post his response. Cheers!
Thanks for asking! The main sound difference between Oak and Maple is the brightness or darkness. Oak has a darker tone in comparison to Maple's bright high attack. @BennexD We hear you! Our metals shells are not to far off from that now. :)
Alright, I’ll be sure to pick one of those up soon enough :D. Thanks! And thanks for making such beautiful drums!
Sweet! Cherry and Maple is a great choice! Enjoy!
Thanks for liking the super solid! We would love for you to have one!
hayy john im from australia how do i get super soild snare i want get a maple and oak and also interested in a edge snare how do i speak to you to see this is the sound im chasing
We can do a 5.5x13 for the Super Solids and a 6x13 for the Super Solid Edge snare. Hope this will accommodate for you!
@19731973Scott Nice! Sounds like you are getting stocked up on the DW snares. :) We are very happy to hear that you are enjoying your DW snares!
The Super Solid and the Steel snare are a great choice also!
Very perceptive. His ring makes a good shell tapper.
I just got this snare it the crack is unbelievable, especially for a wood snare. It has real body too! It defies the laws of nature
Thanks for watching! John has got all the details down.
We appreciate your feedback. We hope there will be a more cohesive way for you guys to get DW out there. We will do our best to insure that for the future.
I gotta wait 4 a year more till I get this 1! I jus ordered a 8x8 VLT tom and I can't wait till I get this 1

Very cool John! I can totally identify with this, looking forward to seeing you at NAMM
@Pmrs745 Your welcome! Thanks for watching!
holy shit this is really cool!
i worked with a lot of cnc machines, did steam bending, laminating.. this is something else!
really curious about that sound!
great work DW!
yes indeed, you have a Craviotto. An yes, they do sound amazing.
Let's have Tom's made the same too please John. Only DW could do it!!
We do not unfortunately! We can make an Edge snare with Maple/Mahogany if you like.
Hey there! Not sure if a whole kit will come to fruition unfortunately. The shells would be in a very high pitch and very tough to make logistically.
We agree!
@MadHatGamer2 We have experimented with similar ideas but they all haven't panned out as well as we wanted. We are always at the "drawing board" though. Thanks for your suggestions!

The more I watch these videos the more I feel like my next drum set will be a DW.
Amazing i'm dream on it
Alright good luck with your job! We will be here doing our very best to push the envelope when you are ready!
@tameemz90 Noted! Yes, we are all very anxious to launch that. We are in the process of photographing the veneer swatches right now :)
We want the mass at the top and bottom to ensure roundness as best we can. JG
We currently only offer the 3 thicknesses, but are always experimenting with new ideas.
Taylor rules! They know their stuff for sure. We appreciate you feeling the similarities.
I gotta say, I've never been a fan of DW products, I always thought they were way overpriced and you could get something just as good for 10x cheaper, but I'm unbelievably impressed by this! Well done DW!
Thank you.
Don't forget....100% American made!
@DrumWorkshopInc Thank you. I thought it would be, most of the dw's i've seen have a similar snare bed, wide. Thanks. Scott
We'll make you one for your need! Thanks for watching!!
