Honest question: do you like the change to us doing all the 60 card formats in one video like this, or would you prefer one video for Pioneer, one for Modern, etc., with the chance that we don't always do BOTH formats?
The Prof calling out people for complaining for certain content then not watching it when it comes out is hysterical. You can really see how much less engagement they receive even with how good the episodes are. Really is a shame.
It's just wild to do things like fly Andrea Mengucci out to play Legacy, or do an episode with Bosh'N'Roll, and it perform worse than a Top 5 list while Commander content gets half a million views, but then people yell at me every time I do Commander gameplay. LE SIGH
It seems the majority of viewers (as in the pool of people who are aware of the profs videos) don't care about the other formats. The folks that do care may be more vocal or active in the community but are outweighed by the folks who want to see good quality commander content.
One of the reason's I like watching shuffle up and play is the variety of formats played. I do still enjoy watching commander or 2 headed giant gameplay more because of that 4 player banter.
@@TolarianCommunityCollege The banter is fun but makes the game harder to follow. My favourite is still 1v1 because it's much easier to follow the game. That last Legacy video was my favourite Shuffle up and Play in a while.
I love paper cube and draft - not enough of that content out in the universe. Perhaps because it is harder to film for entertainment purposes? Either way I look forward to the upcoming cube video! @@TolarianCommunityCollege
I will say that I absolutely adore anytime you do 60 card formats for a Shuffle Up and Play episode, and while I love the entire series, any 60 card episodes are absolutely my favorite. Just wish more people interacted with those videos. Love your work Prof!
Tbh I DO think there is a card for legacy. Trumpeting Carnosaur I could see making the cut for Mississippi River, as it is a 6 drop that can also fetch Creative Technique, and it has a modal mode that can get rid of multiple hate cards against the deck, like Drannith Magistrate, Thalia, and a ticked down Teferi Time Raveler. I do think I prefer individual format videos as it still inspires deck brewing, even if it seems fringe, too competitive is not what all of us want to play, and I would def want to play Mississippi River even if it’s not a top deck in the format.
It probably makes the cut on just the fact alone that it's in red, allowing that deck to cut the sweet gum recluses and sakashima's proteges and run all red sol lands.
I really enjoy the Legacy content, the BoshNRoll episode was great. More Modern content is always welcome too That being said, you should make the gameplay videos for the formats that you want to make them for!
I love the other most powerful cards in (select format), but I love this structure more because we get to hear about formats I personally don’t usually play!
As a pioneer player my prediction is: Cavern of Souls won’t have a single impact on pioneer. There are no tribal decks that are being played besides human. So maybe we are going to see some caverns in human decks… but I don’t think they really matter anyways… But hopefully we’ll see some more tribal decks in the future
I can't imagine humans not jamming 4 copies of it, but you're right in that I don't think it's really much of an upgrade for the deck, humans aren't really that worried about getting countered
As a commander player, in the first 4 minutes, prof talks about the uploading to shuffle up and play, which, I feel blessed to have another great show for us to enjoy, and it feels like a breath of fresh air when other formats get uploaded as well. Every format deserves its time and its players, and respect from all players across the board. We're all playing magic. We all love magic, and that's why we sit down and play.
I'm so happy we are returning back into xillian. That was the magic set back in summer of 2017 that got me back into magic. After shuffling through multiple card games throughout my years. Love the pirate theme of it. So I'm definitely buying a box of this set which will be my first box in awhile since Un-finity. Then my friend who got me back into magic introduced me to your content.
I think the Spirit for Greasefang can pull double duty. Use in 1st main to put something from hand to graveyard or play it 2nd main to sac the Parhellion to put it back in your yard before it goes back to hand.
Prof, for what it's worth, I watched your Legacy show and enjoyed it even though I am not specifically in to Legacy, and I've never complained. Keep it up man Peace 🤙
Another card for PAUPER - Goblin Tomb Raider - On turn one, if you have the red artifact land and this, it's a 2/2 with haste... slots into Kuldotha Red, perhaps...
idk much about what's coming up but im super looking forward to the vintage cube episode of Shuffle up and Play! to be seen on the Tolarian Community College channel
Tishana's Tidebinder is going to be a house in Modern Merfolk as well as decks running Flame of Anor. I can even see it see play in decks outside of that as well. I'm surprised you did not bring it up as a Merfolk enthusiast.
I've never even considered playing Legacy, Vintage, or Modern, but I'll watch your gameplay videos regardless of the format (or the TCG being played) because you and the guests that you bring in are the main attraction.
Goblin Tomb Raider and Brazen Blademaster both seem very good for pauper red aggro, considering how many artifacts are played in some of those decks. Particularly good with the artifact lands
I watch all the shuffle up and play episodes because I just like watching people who don’t take the game too seriously joking around while playing Magic 😂 and I like all formats because they’re all just different flavors of my favorite card game
Prof I love these 60 card format videos! That’s basically all my girlfriend and I play. We like commander but a 100 card deck is hard for her to shuffle (among other issues) so we mostly play Pioneer, Modern and we even have all 4 of the standard challenger decks. This video is perfect for us! Thank you so much!
15:00 it was smart of you to lump this all together for this set. With all the product coming out, people might even be inclined to engage with another format rather than just emerging with a set. And you get to make an abridged video!
As someone who currently plays zero 60 card formats, I highly enjoy both these videos and every episode of Shuffle Up and Play. Honestly I'll watch every SUP at least once for the gameplay and then revisit my favorites for the fun personalities.
Molten Collapse isn't going to do much in Modern. Sorcery Speed cripples the card, hard. It's a good card, and maybe worth sideboarding, but the problem is that most of the Creatures you want to answer are Evoke Elementals, most of the Planeswalkers are going to be so protected by counterspells you're never getting through, and most noncreature, nonland permanents your care about are mana value 2 or higher.
I highly encourage everyone to check out that Legacy episode if you skipped it. I've never played Legacy and probably never will, and it was still very entertaining and super easy to follow. That goes for all the other formats too. Can't wait for the cube one!
I really like these combined format videos, I dont play modern but ill definitely watch a video with pauper cards in it! Hopefully this boosts engagement cause it sure has in my case lol
Three things: First: hey everyone Second: I don't even play legacy but I watch bosh and roll everyday. He's one of the goats and I loved that video. Third: no one is playing paper standard, but after a long break from arena, I love playing domain. Wubrg piles are a blast.
That Amalia deck could toss in Dina from Strixhaven so that everytime you gain life your opponents lose a Life, makes that Explore/Life combo a bit more deadly...
Master of dark rights may be my favorite commander card in the set, but corpses of the lost is probably even better in my heart. Mono black got some fun shenanigan cards. Vampires also needed more mono white cards.
Loved the rant about videos we watch. Honestly, I dont watch any of the shuffle up n plays because I dont play mtg(husband does). I started watching your unboxing videos because I miss actually opening boxes. Husband doesnt buy boxes anymore. Which, given all your advice, is a good thing but I still miss opening packs. I like watching these other videos because you're funny.
I really like thousand moons smithy. It can make some really large tokens and can be transformed so quickly. With fast creature mana you can get this down on 3 then make 4/4s and 5/5s while just casting spells you were going to cast anyway.
I think there is value in making content for everyone even if some of them gets less views instead of only doing the content that most people want to see. If you stick only to commander gameplays, the minority that enjoys other formats will simply have no gameplay videos to watch
First draft event ever last night and a friend pulled cavern of souls with the alt art. very cool! everyone was jealous once we all found out lmao he didn't even realize, he just liked it and grabbed it lol
I know you didn't talk about standard but the deck this set has me the most excited to try is Etali turbo. Basically using the new dino ramp alongside fight rigging and the 3 mana 6/6 to play a turn 3 or 4 Etali... Probably not strong enough to be meta but it certainly seems fun
My LGS has been hosting standard events and the turnouts have been overwhelming to the point we use all six game rooms, 10 commander length tables in a garage, and now we had to open another area where WarHammer 40k is normally played to fit everyone. Don’t hate on standard and basically tell people it’s irrelevant and not fun. Let people decide for themselves what formats they want to play without biasing a huge group of players into not even attempting to play because you talk like it’s irrelevant and dead
Fwiw Shuffle up and Play for me is more about the guests. I'll watch the Cube because I recognize and like one or more guests. I would rather watch Legacy with guests I enjoy watching than Commander with 3 guests from the same channel or band or whatever that I'm not familiar with/invested in.
As a Historic only player I have a couple of ideas for decks. Cavern of souls for pretty obvious reasons, and the explore combo should mix well with a Life gain-drain deck I have done in the past. I think LCI will be pretty good for the game.
I feel like Tishana's Tidebinder is getting overlooked by everyone. I think its got potential to be a great stifle effect. The only advantage Obstructionist has is that it can't be countered thanks to cycling being an ability, but Tidebinder gives you a body so.
Ironically that legacy video got me to start watching Bosh n' Roll daily, and now I've bought into the format to play in a local proxy friendly 1k. So keep em coming!
I realize the professor doesn’t really play pauper so he doesn’t know much about the format, but ironically a card that will likely be stronger for grixis affinity than a redundant and slightly worse deadly dispute is almost certainly going to be tithing blade. A chainer’s edict that you can then SACRIFICE to your deadly dispute? Excellent. Beats mono-blue delver/terror which is really the deck to beat right, and it also lets you have main deck answers to bogles.
I watch every episode! Even if I have no idea what some of the game formats are. I just love Magic and nobody beats the quality of presenting a game of Magic like this channel does
I have a friend thats about to go wild with a pioneer dinosaur deck. Idk the name but whatever the dino that deals 4 to a player when they cast an instant on an opponents turn seems so fun
Love your videos about other formats than commander! I watch them all! And I also watch the commander ones because they're fun too! Shuffle up and play is a great show!!!! I look forward to the vintage cube on monday :)
A card that's gonna be highly sought-after for tribal commander decks is definitely gonna be progenitors icon I don't think it's in the main set could be wrong but i havent seen it spoiled but atm it's only in the dinosaur commander deck so it may be pricey in the near future
Honestly, all episodes of shuffle up and play are phenomenal. Commander is fun to watch but I’ve watched spice8rack play pauper multiple times and each time is wonderfully enjoyable
Prof, come on... You know what we all are waiting for. Even if you think that "Nicanzil, Current Conductor" might be an OP card with the typical land spam all blue/green cards have, you know it is the best commander so far for Melforks, so when is the video of your new Melfork deck coming? Jokes aside, love the content.
Haven't touched pioneer since the self mill deck was the only or one of the 2 decks topping. Cavern of souls reprint has me curious of trying it with goblins again
I am one of the few who has watched every non commander episode of shuffle up and play (I think). I also feel your pain at their low viewership because it means I get less episodes, lol. I completely understand doing whats best for the channel, and whats best is probably more commander. Just throw me a pauper video every now and then though.
I pretty much watch most if not all videos despite me only really playing and understanding Modern and; as of late; Commander and enjoy all of them even if i dont quite get all the formats yet. To think there are those who complain about the content they are getting. Let em bitch Prof; the majority of your viewers will watch and support whatever you dish out.
You play Amelia Benavidas Aguirre and enchant her with Colossification, giving her +20/+20. Then you sacrifice Ifnir dreadlands to give her -2/-2, then gain 1 life from a blooming sands etb trigger. Explore, explode. 2 cards, 2 lands combo solid plan tell me a better statistical way to do it.
As a Greasefang player, Im excited for Bitter Triumph! A 2 mana Hero's Downfall that puts Parhellion II straight into my bin? Yes please! And if I'm hellbent, I fan still just pay the 3 life for a 2 mana kill spell! Card's good!
Souls of the lost seems good in crabvine, however, that deck is niche at the moment and it could also muddy up the game plan. We shall see where it goes.
Blue permission was most definitely not what's keeping Merfolk from being played in Pioneer. If anything, the combination of efficient removal in black and red and mediocre clock with existing Merfolk is what's keeping it from seeing tournament play, not the lack of tribal mana fixing or permission protection. Cavern of Souls offers the biggest boon to midrange and big mana strategies seeking to protect a 4+MV creature threat from on-curve permission. I would expect to see it do much more work protecting a Sheoldred or big dino than a
The professor out here roasting control players, roasting people that don't like commander, roasting the legacy format for having such a low player count... So many hot takes in this episode I think I got a sunburn!
I do like the change, actually- not only did I love the SUP episode, but I think there's always overlap. I think it's worth to separate out Pauper picks, though- it's wildly different due to prioritizing different cards that most people will skip over during preview season Edit- also enjoying the way you didn't go 'ok this is number 5'
Idk if I ever complained but I do prefer the 1v1 formats on Shuffle Up and Play. Unfortunately I only count for one view. I just find commander a little bit overwhelming. I love Cardmarket's videos for that reason.
So the only reason I clicked out of that Legacy video early on is because I had no idea what was going on and a lot of the cards were being played without anything being explained. And like, I get that if you're neck deep in Legacy you're already gonna know a lot of the staples, but I'm not so it really did feel like when they played cards on Big Bang Theory and only said their names. All the other formats on SUP I've quite enjoyed and would love to see more of, so long as they read the card to explain the card lol.

one video for each. So each format can shine and have more details for that format

Souls of the Lost seems like it has a good friend via Cruel Somnophage
As a Greasefang player, Im excited for Bitter Triumph!
A 2 mana Hero's Downfall that puts Parhellion II straight into my bin? Yes please!
And if I'm hellbent, I fan still just pay the 3 life for a 2 mana kill spell! Card's good!
I somehow missed this when it came out. Saw it when I watched the top new commander video.
I would expect to see it do much more work protecting a Sheoldred or big dino than a
First time watcher. The 3 minute rant to start the video is Gold. Hahaha
Spicy Prof hits different
Looking forward to the vintage cube episode.
Lol The Professor is being spicy AND I AM SO HERE FOR IT!
The professor out here roasting control players, roasting people that don't like commander, roasting the legacy format for having such a low player count... So many hot takes in this episode I think I got a sunburn!
If you watch the Prof content he's annoyed that most mtg content is commander tho..
I pray this man is featured on the game knights lost caverns of ixalan precon battle
I have been looking forward to the cube draft all week.😊
I do like the change, actually- not only did I love the SUP episode, but I think there's always overlap.
I think it's worth to separate out Pauper picks, though- it's wildly different due to prioritizing different cards that most people will skip over during preview season
Edit- also enjoying the way you didn't go 'ok this is number 5'
prof calling people out, I love it!
Idk if I ever complained but I do prefer the 1v1 formats on Shuffle Up and Play. Unfortunately I only count for one view. I just find commander a little bit overwhelming. I love Cardmarket's videos for that reason.
Ixalan is my favorite! So hyped!
The Professor be like... im the professor
Legacy content. Yes. Vintage cube?! YES!!!! Sharing with friends ❤❤
