A question I get asked all the time is some variation of "if you could only have one camera and 1 lens forever, what would it be?".
Well, I've been testing out a combo over the last several months that I finally feel settled with, and that's what I'll be sharing in this video.

Would u bring both the 16-35mm and 35mm on a trip or just the 16-35mm
I’ve used a wide angle for all my travels 10-18mm or 17-40mm and I recently switched to 35mm (22mm on my eos M) and I’m so so grateful because it’s been tough lately to wrap my mind around it but I’m starting to enjoy it!! Really appreciate you for putting out that 27 pictures a day challenge and I definitely would want to try that this year!
My question is how do you get in that cadence of photography and editing if I am currently not working on photography? Usually I’m at a gig and I’m used to editing 900+ photos in one sitting or something like 3-4000 photos to go through in a weekend to narrow it down to 300 or 400 photos and I’ve never got the time to do my own personal photos so I’m just as excited 😆 but I’ve been hesitant about my workflow because I’m not taking as many as I would for an event but I’m wondering is this a daily practice like a workout? Or do I completely save editing for the weekend and edit ✍️ the weekly photos like I do for wedding
You are literally bringing me so much joy to my love of photography and I’m so grateful 🥲
So good to see your channel growing so fast as someone who was here since the beginning ❤️
thank you for hanging around!
I would say the best travel fullframe prime lens combo is the a7c with a sony 1.8 (20,35,50,85) because it‘s sooo lightweight and of course it‘s not the best of the best but the capabilities of this combination are so high for the form factor.
for sure! plus the price is well affordable as well!
For me it's the Leica SL2 and the SL 50mm AA, thinking of picking up the Panasonic 16-35 sometime in the future, never used a 16-35 before so I will see how much I like it
Hey thanks for the great content!! I have the 16-35 gm as well. I’m trying to build the ultimate combo. I pretty much do all types of photography and videography. Which other primes\zooms do you recommend?
Past couple of years I've owned a zeiss 551.8 and 2470GM with an a7r4 as my set-up. It runs the best of all that i do a great potrait lens and a versatile zoom lens.
great setup you've got there!
For me my one body & lens as of right now is the A7iii paired with the Sigma 24-70 f2.8.
However when I upgrade later this year I’m gonna go A7IV & Sony 24-105 or 24-70 GM
Love that video! Thank you!
I have 20mm, 35mm and I rarely use them and I find myself using the 24-70mm much more. In Your opinion, would you sell your 2 primes and get the 16-35mm? Thank you!!
Great video! I love your content! Thanks again
thanks for watching!
Sony A7C and 28-60 kit lens. Just purchased Sigma 100-400 for some telephoto action. Although need to get a wide zoom versatile lens as well which will be my go to.
A1 + 24-70GM; if I have space, toss in the Tamron 70-180 as well.
Rocking the A7iv and 16-35GM. Love it. Also have the 90mm f/2.8 Macro. Wondering if I should bridge the gap between the 35mm and the 90mm or do something like a 70-200 for the next lens. Decisions decisions.
fantastic setup already though!
Still rocking a IXUS 75 with a broken lcd. Glad you're back, Pat! Excited for that future collab 👀
back from my break! 😬
My go to has been the A7C with the f1.4 35mm GM. Super compact and versatile with amazing bokeh.
for sure! what a lovely setup you have there!
hey pat who do you recommend for information and teachings about videography and cinematography ?
Hi Pat!
Great video.
Please what font do you use for the beginning of this video's Q&A?
I love it!
Currently running the A7Riv and 16-35GM. But looking to downgrade (or, side-grade?) over to the a7iv.
Been waiting for this one ☝️
hope you enjoyed it!
@@patkay got me thinking about my setup hmm 🤔
My favorite combo right now is the Sony a1 and the Sony 50mm f1.2 GM. If I was restricted to using that combo, I'd be pretty damn satisfied.
for sure! that 50 GM is so dreamy 🤤
I have an A6400 + the kit lens currently. I’m on the fence with either getting the Sigma 24-70 f2.8 for an all around lens or the Sony 85mm f1.8 for that prime goodness.
Buy a tamron 17-70 f2.8. And for prime sigma 30 f1.4 or the 16 f1.4 or the 56f1.4
I frequently use a Sony A7 with a Leitz Sommicron-R 50/2. Very sharp.
It would have to be a Z7 II with a 24-200 as I do mostly landscapes so I want plenty of flexibility in the focal length. If I was shooting more street or portraits then a fast 50 would do.
Mine is A7Riii + Tamron 28-200mm.
Will add one very light wide angle lens (may be Samyang 18mm or Tamron 20mm) and I am set.
ATM for me using and works best for me is Sony A7IV + 35 GM 1.4, but if to choose a lens for the rest of my life, would be the sigma 24-70 f2.8, think will be getting that soon.
what a great setup you have already though!
Mine: Sony a6600 + Sony F2.8 16-55mm (it works for most of the types of photos I shoot)
nice! small and portable!
I love the 35mm focal length as well. But, I feel the Sigma 35 1.4 DG DN is better value to the $$$. I actually have my a7riiia + Sigma 24-70 as my one camera+one lens.
Would love a photography book from you. My god you’re just different with the camera!
Hi! I'm an aps-c user(a6400), do you recommend 24mm 1.4gm as my one lens set up as it will be my 35mm equivalent prime lens instead of 35mm 1.4gm (=50mm equivalent)??? (Or if you have any other recommendation, let me know please! I'm planning to buy my first highly invested lens to go with...A little bit of information of what I do, I want to explore as many kinds of stills and videos(landscapes, portraits, cinematic videos, etc.) with only one high caliber lens. Thank you for anyone will spend some time to answer this comment!
a7 mk3 + tamron 35-150mm f2.0-2.8 is what I'm using currently and this lens lives on my camera.
nice! super versatile!
EM1 Mk2 with 12~100 f/4 (24~200 35mm equivalent)
Glad to see you posting more on RUclips!
back after my break 💪
Sony RX100 is my go to ! I use it to train my eye and composition skill
one of my faves!
For me probably my 70d (or later revision) and 18-35/f1.8
nice!
Currently a A7Riii + 35mm f/1.4GM. Nice watch Pat, which one are you rockin?
thanks! the watch is a Cartier Ballon Bleu
Fujifilm X-T20 27mm
Compact, inconspicuous, versatile, tactile, lightweight, fun. Honestly can’t imagine using another system now after switching from Nikon. Other brands just feel like computers to me. I take it EVERYWHERE and it’s not in the slightest any bit inconvenient.
✳️ You 're absolutely right Jester. The ergonomics of Fuji with dedicated dials are FAR BETTER and STRAIGHT FORWARD and tactile than Sony/Nikon/Panasonic buttons and menus you always have to deal with.
After trying my Fuji body, my friend - a pro working in real estate - sold its complete Sony kit!
I have a X-T30 with the same 27mm you mentionned. Light, compact. Easy to use. Impressive IQ. Cheap. I fits in my pockets or my bags and is with 7/7 24/24.
Don't think about it with Sony. Heavy, bulky, expensive. And ESPECIALLY: Sony don't give me the same pleasure.
✅ Fuji desserves a try!
this or the fuji x100v/x-e4 (with 27mm)
for sure! they look like great cameras!
Love this.
Im currently on the Sony a7c with the Sony 35mm1.8 (Sometimes wish I saved up for the 35mm1.4 GM but Ill work my way up to it)
you have a fantastic combination i could easily recommend to most people!
I use a Sony a9ii with a Sony 70-200 2.8 version 2. Very light and with the lens hood reversed Its compact, at least to me.
For your next question 1 body and 2 lens. My choice would again my a9ii my Sony 70-200 f2.8 gen. 2. The #2 lens would be the tamron 28-75 I just acquired and love it. Thanks ric
A7Riii & Sigma 24-70mm for me but your combo is a bloody dream haha
yours can still do most things most people would want though!
I have the a7III and the 50mm 1.8 at the moment (Absolutely no dream lens but my wallet was empty after the body purchase and I wanted to start shooting.). I‘m about to buy the Sigma 24-70 soon and I‘m hyped. 🔥
I love my A7II with my 70-200mm F4 Lens! I am more creative with lenses like this. Wide angle lenses are too difficult for me. 😅 But i try out the 14mm F1.8 at the Moment. It‘s a very interesting journey! 😊
My go to Currently is a7iii with sigma 24-70, upgraded from a6400/a6600 with 18-105
Since your updated kit has lesser focal range than your earlier kit, do you find it restricting in any way?
congrats on the upgrade!
Thanks, I do have 70-200 f4 lens for range it was actually my first/only full frame lens. It was only when I could afford 24-70 2.8 that it became my everyday carry.
Slowly building out my lenses, rather than upgrading bodies.
Took your advise about taking more purposeful photos and reviewing them to learn.
Nice watch 😁
hehe thanks!
Sony a7c + 55 1.8 zeiss. If you want a small but crazy good setup.
super high quality that setup!
Fujifilm X-E4 with the 27mm f2.8 pancake lens.
How did I know you were going 16-35mm!!
I would go with the A7RV and the 24-70mm GM II. If I could have two lenses, I would add the 70-200mm GM II. Between that camera and those lenses, it would cover 90% of what I shoot.
a7iii or a7c?
@pat kay - would you do a 2 lens follow up :)?
as in, one body, two lenses?
@@patkay exactly!
I'm also curious when you'd take out your 35mm GM Vs the 16-35 if you have the time to reply 🙏
I’m still stuck in the DSLR world mainly due to the cost barrier of shifting to a mirrorless system. My Canon 5D Mark III and 24-70mm still produce amazing pics.
Its compact, its lightweight. Its 10 grand oO. Id go for A7C+Tamron 17-28 on a budget
Nikon Z 7ii and the Nikkor 35mm
oh great!
Right now I’m eos m and 22mm (35mm equivalent)
A7c+Sony 35mm f1.8
nice!
My one body one lens is... Canon R5 and the RF 24-105 F4!
Looking at this $5000 setup and realising the low budget version is mine 😂 sony a6400 with a sigma 16mm f1.4 for most of the times. Probably gonna get the 17-70 tamron and 70-180 someday
Discord gang reporting in!
real homies
Canon R5 + 24-105 f4. Literally could do 90% of studio work with it
for sure!
If only M.Zuiko had full-frame glass...... That would be my dream.
Canon RP - 50mm 1.8 RF
nice!
@@patkay small and compact. But still a full frame. Hopefully canon releases more budget friendly lenses or they would release their mount to thirdparty lens manufacturers
Thought you'd say 24-105mm. Anyway.
a great lens, but not for me! many people would love it tho!
The new Tamron 20-40 f2.8 will make a great travel lens at only 365 grams. Even more useful focal length in my opinion, and better magnification too.
Never will do Sony for 1 body and lens. 😅 personal opinion.
Get a Fuji x-h2 with 16-55 f2.8 and keep a lot of money 😂
Or budget X-T3/4
Or Canon R8 with 24-70
Are you wearings a Ballon Bleu?
i am! limited edition one
👍💪
🙏
Ultimate one body-one lens combo? Leica M10M + Summilux 35mm 1.4
that would be great! $$$ though!
@@patkay I actually have it. Real pricey but so good.
Just suggest the most expensive setup to people, and they will inevitably look for something cheaper on their own😂 What works for one person, doesn‘t necessarily works for everyone, but people wanting a shortcut to „instagram bangers and 1M followers“ don‘t get that, unfortunately.
🛑 NOTE: you DON'T need this superlative equipment to take good pictures. 🛑
for sure! i use a pocket camera and my phone all the time too
