    This has been a pleasure to watch as you've journied north. I'm amazed that this is Mark's first long distance trail. What a trail to start on! The CW has the reputation of being the hardest LDP in UK and for the right reasons. Thank you so much for filming your journey and congratulations!

      Thank you for watching and being interested in our trip David. I fought either of us would have managed it without each other. Mark has youth on his side and did have little experience I have plenty of experience but lack enthusiasm and drive these days so we made a good team. I think the central section in poor weather was definitely the hardest.

    What navigation system were you using Dave, OS app? Assume you obviously had map and compass as back up. Some of those spots look like they could be quite treacherous if you got disoriented.

    • @DaveGoodman1959
      @DaveGoodman1959  9 месяцев назад +1

      Hi Ed,I just wrote a long reply hit the wrong button and lost it😂yes used OS app, compass and just the maps in the guide book. Rather than taking maps. Only used the compass to cross the Glyders range as the screens on our phones stopped working due to the heavy rain and cold. We still didn’t need the map as the compass just kept us going in the right direction stopping us coming back on ourselves. Although I have been onto the Glyders many times in the past it was still very very disorienting in those conditions with no visibility. When I got back I bought a waterproof pouch from Tredlite gear which you can use a phone through so I don’t have that problem again.
      The maps in the guide book we felt could get you out of trouble but we never needed to use it to do that.
      Anyway great to hear from you again and thanks for asking a question.

      @@DaveGoodman1959 thanks for the reply Dave. Actually , just after I asked the question I saw the bit in the video where you mention the phone getting wet. I was curious what you were using as the CW looks like it takes you into some challenging environments. I have to admit when I did the CWT I decided to invest in the Garmin 66sr as I was worried for the same reason as what happened to you. The device is pretty bombproof and took all the shitty weather Scotland had to throw at me. Some people think they look antiquated but so practical and ridiculously accurate as work off 5 satellites. The battery life on the new 67 has something like 180 hours of continuous battery life which is pretty amazing.
      Funnily enough I’ve been hassling Harvey maps about when they’re gonna do the CW 😂and they say they’re hoping to have it done later this year 🤞.

      @@edwardstroud8245 hi Ed, I’ve yet to manage a longer trail in one go I’ve normally had enough by about 10 days. I did the CWT 15 years ago with my Dad, he was 73 sadly passed away now. Yes I’ve had the Notch for 3 years and been very pleased with it, I really like the dynema and I was certainly worried about it at first as seems so delicate. It does stand up to a windy night very well, obviously not a storm though. We had plenty of bad weather on our trip but it’s easy to choose to camp low down which I prefer in inclement conditions. As you can see in this section we camped in the valleys as the weather was really bad on the mountains.
      It’s definitely a much harder hike than the CWT as it’s up and down all the time. I think the central section is the most difficult as feels very remote and a little forward planning is required for food.
      Anyway I wish you all the best with your adventure.

      @@DaveGoodman1959 Hi Dave. For me the hardest thing about the CWT was actually the boggy conditions and having wet feet the whole time. Plus I was restricted with time so had to move fast to complete it. Probably like you in the past, family commitments make these kind of trips quite difficult logistically. I really want to take on the CT in one go but we’ll see how my wife takes to the idea 😂🤔 . I get the feeling that although the CW is longer there are more opportunities to stop and pick up provisions, so I figure as long as I have three days worth at any one time I should be fine. On the CWT I carried 5 days for one section.
      Currently I have the MSR access 2 which is very solid but about 1kg heavier than the notch Li.
      Great that you were able to do the CWT with your dad. Those kind of experiences are unique and live with you all your life. My son is 14 and I want to take him on a throughly hike soon. Not on the scale of the CW quite yet 😂.
