The biggest problem plaguing the sport is the sanctioned (allowed) cheating by pitchers. I noticed an uptick a few years ago and now its all over the sport - and the ball.
The cheating happens by the concoctions and substances that pitchers are putting on the ball, giving it a lot more spin.
If I recall, Bauer said something in the media years back - effectively saying its a problem and that MLB is doing nothing about it.
So that's a tough deal. If MLB does nothing about it, then teams will eventually demand that all pitchers need that extra 300RPM on the ball and then basically, if you don't cheat you may end up off the roster. Its BS and puts honest players in a tough spot.

I believe this scandal is bigger than most realize. When Verlander pitched at home for the Tigers, it seemed like every other home start he was on the verge of throwing a no-hitter...he was completely and consistently dominant. Then he would pitch in Cleveland or Chicago and they would light him up for 7 runs in two innings, or he would give up 4 home runs in three innings...completely out of character. You'd see some .270 hitter sit on a nasty 12-6 curveball and hit it 400 feet, or take a 96mph fastball low and away and smack it into the opposite field gap. I would always comment that it seemed like the hitters knew that pitch was coming.

The game I loved is gone (and no one will care because they didn't see it) but on the bright side, those born today won't care in a few years and the cheating will probably have morphed to something even worse. I already note all the time the attitudes about cheating that people in their teens to 20's have now. You just grow up with it so it's just a fact of life and hear it justified as " it's smart play". Whatever it was it made his face give the oh shit look. Like that oh shit I didn’t close my browser kinda situation. Anywho, I do know once the tape was off he had a terrible strike three like fooled out of his shoes. But once that little piece of tape was on during his next at bat he hit a jack.

I don’t know what to think about the whole thing. On the one hand, you have coaches and team personnel using technology to cheat. On the other hand, you have players within the organization who oblige to the coaches and use their system. Some players, like Beltran, were all for it. Some guys, like maybe Springer or something (not sure, but just using an example) don’t want to and know it’s not right but they do it because they’re put in a bad spot. It’s easy to say you wouldn’t do it if you were a player when you’re not actually part of an MLB organization that is paying you millions of dollars. I feel like players are put in a bad spot when coaches (who are supposed to set an example for the players) encourage you to cheat. For that reason, I don’t think it’s fair to ban the players or punish them too severely.

Look on the brightside, this year. We get the following games :
Oakland and Fiers vs Astros 19 times.
I wonder if there's a correlation between stats jumping and number crunching using the fangraphs tools to see -who- exactly cheated the system by looking at batter vs pitch, hard hit%, etc. I'm sure over the sample size of 2 years, there will be plenty of juicy data to see who the cheaters were, or at least find likely culprits.

Hahaha so many butt hurt trolls. The Angel's had 1 good pitcher all year and he couldn't play more than a half season. How is that Houston's fault?

Speaking of Mike Trout, he needs to slow down on the roids. He is starting to resemble the build of players from the steroid era: A-Rod, McGwire, Bonds, Sosa, Canseco...

@John D Where can I get my crystal ball to tell the future like you? You people can all hate the astros as much as you like. The fact is they have a team full of all stars and very well could make it to another ALCS if not WS. I will love it when that happens.

1919 Chicago White Sox lost World Series on purpose for money and was banned for life. Pete Rose bet on his own team to win and was banned for life. Astros cheated for years and not one player suspended for one game. Pathetic, the Astros players involved need to be booed for the rest of their career. Rob Manfred needs to be fired and majors suspensions need to be dealt and World Series title and rings need to be taken.
