  • Good day you awesome #Leica Camera geeks! Even in the fanatical world of Leica, where nothing can be secret for too long, there are still hidden gems and bargains to be discovered. This legendary Leica lens that has been criminally overlooked, even by Leica fanatics. This lens is the 35mm f/2.8 Leica Summaron.
I have to admit that I too have overlooked this lens for many years. I got rid of my 35mm f/2 Summicron-M V4 many years ago and since then I've been on a mission to get another 35mm f/2 Summicron for my Leica M cameras. But taking a look at the prices for the 35mm f/2 Summicron-M today, I can tell you it's beyond my budget and what I'd be willing to spend on a 35mm f/2.
I had been curious about the 35mm f/2.8 Summaron for years, mostly because of the passionate cult following it has on rangefinder forum (RFF) but I always skipped out on buying one simply because I believed the 35mm f/2 Summicron to be better. I only got the Summaron because I found a great deal on it but now after using this lens for the past few months, I no longer feel the need for the Summicron.
In this video, I shoot the 35mm f/2.8 Summaron exclusively with my M Monochrom CCD. I used to find the name "Summaron" funny sounding and thought it was inferior to the Summicrons. I no longer laugh. I respect this lens and find myself in love with it!
