As a Chinese Malaysian who celebrates chinese new year, can confirm everything that she said about cny is correct and we still do those things. Especially the fireworks part. And where I live, firecrackers+fireworks are so common during the midnight of 除夕夜 (the night before cny), don't expect to get any sleep until 1am when the rich people decide they have burnt enough money and sleep is important. Anyways, Happy CNY and Welcome back to Malaysia !!! (one month late but they say its the thought that counts)

As a Chinese Indonesian, this video is so accurate lol. This is exactly how my family celebrated CNY (minus the family coming over part since it's covid), but we basically do everything else. My favorite part of CNY is the dinner, since I got to eat many foods my family doesn't usually eat and obviously receiving angpao the next day. I'm happy seeing how CNY is celebrated the same way all around the world. To everyone reading, Happy Chinese New Year! May fortune and luck be with you this year :D

I'm very happy she explained Chinese New Year because sadly my school never actually really taught us about it. They did 1 time in 1st Grade, but it was a 5 minute video that was way too complicated for my tiny brain. I do have multiple friends who do celebrate it but every time I asked for them to explain they said I was insulting their culture... I am not Asian but I am interested in other cultures and how they celebrate things. Now that I understand it, I know how cool it really is and why they celebrate it! Happy Chinese New Year! 💕

i may not celebrate cny, but as a south-asian i enjoyed this dive into your culture. i could make a lot of comparisons to celebrations such as diwali and rakhi, which are both interesting in their own right.

I'm Malaysian Chinese and can confirm that this is 100% accurate except we live in Australia so finding love letters, tapioca bickies and a qipao was almost impossible. Plus fireworks are illegal lol we only use sparklers

Especially after the Taliban took over the government last year the little improvement there was for Hazara people‘s situation, like being represented in the government through a few politicians, was undone. A few months before the take-over last year, an all-girls school in a majority Hazara neighbourhood was bombed, resulting in 85 deaths. While the Taliban did deny being behind the attack, they (and other extremist groups) have historically targeted Hazaras for their ethnicity and religion

10:16 Every now and again I would go over to a little craft/farmers market type of festival thing near my small Texas suburban town and the highlight of my visits would be a box of pop pops they sold at several stands. That place was practically the only place I have ever seen them for sale in the states.

Every Malaysian Chinese New Year with my family always revolves around one thing and one thing only: Food. It's become like some sort of tradition to have popiah (it's like burritos except there's fried onions, soupy vegetables and roast duck inside) for lunch and dinner. Since we have at least 17+ people around each time, the chaos at the dinner table is indescribable. Especially when we start shouting "Yam Seng" (so loudly I bet the entire neighbourhood can hear us) while holding our drinks up. And also while they cry in despair as they gamble all their money away. It's never a surprise that right after dinner some of my family will bring back noodles and more stuff to eat everytime. And the fact that I have upheld the title as the "Popiah King" (named by yours truly) because I eat more than 20 popiahs each meal. So it's safe to say that my family could cause world hunger if health and their appetite limits didn't stop them
Another thing: The fact that I really want that shirt that makes you look like Howl 😭 (because mhm, gENdeR)

I'm an Indian and I used to live in Singapore! One thing I would always look forward to was Chinese New Year because the festivities were all so grand! There would be Chinese New Year decoration contests in schools, and we could miss out on classes for one day! My neighbors used to invite me and my parents over for steamboat, Yee Sang, (apologies if i spelt it wrong) and let us join the celebration! Its so interesting learning about different cultures and how happy and merry everyone would be
