    Thanks for the credit, I did not expect it :D As you've noticed, I'm not really a "content creator", and I really don't plan on becoming one (not deleting that obscure Polish football meme a.k.a my other video either) but I had some more time over the Christmas break and since I've been trying to give this advice to people here and there on different forums, I thought I may as well spare the hour and just record a quick round-up of some of the things which can be done to mitigate the weird feeling of AMS2. I'm happy for anyone who finds these tips useful.

    I almost give up on AMS2 since the last major update. Cannot get rid of the same floating, driving on ice feeling no matter what settings I do. I simply got tired of it. Seen Papryk's video yesterday but wasnt able to give it much attention until I find Mike today and found out these 3 simple steps. Tried it the same time and no doubt i was back on AMS2 again!!! With a few tweaks on FFB and immediately it's like night and day difference. Thanks so much Mike and credits to Papryk's for sorting out this issue.

    I watched Papryk's video yesterday and was on the fence as well, but these tips make the game so much more enjoyable. My tip is to put the tire volume at something like 20, low enough to not hear the scrubbing, but high enough that you can hear the tires screech if you lock up. I'm no pro, I do that sometimes :) The custom FFB feels great on my T300

    I tried all these settings but tbh I preferred the defaults and went back to them.
    1) maybe I'm just too used to it, but tyre sounds are important for me as a tool to rely on when I'm going over the limit. I can see why one might want to tone them down because the limit in AMS2 is kinda... floaty. But I still like to hear it.
    2) Removing all head movement just makes everything super bumpy... I am using legacy head movement but with just a tiny bit of movement to muffle the bumps.
    3) The custom FFB was rather meh to me. The FX adds unneccessary effects, like engine vibrations, so I immediately turned it off. I like how immediate rest of the feeling was, but there was too much countersteer to my taste - it felt like the wheel was fighting me everytime I started turning it.
    I don't want to look like a hater - just saying that these setting may not necessarily work for you... they did not for me.

    Great for those who feel that's something wrong, but all this is very subjective and down to personal taste. Regarding tires sound, I'm totally the opposite, I crack the volume of tires up and low the rest (nothing to zero though) and honestly that's something I appreciate in AMS2 and thing it does better than the competition because there is levels to the tires noise. There is a sound for them just rolling over the tarmac, there is a sound for them sliding, there is sound for them scrubbing, the is a sound for them slipping and there is a sound for tires locking up. But hey, for each their own and if those tips makes you appreciate more the game and have more fun just go for it.

    • @kevin_m
      @kevin_m 9 месяцев назад +1

      I have had camera settings as Mike suggests for ages, and use default ffb. I feel the same as you about tire sounds. I like the grip info I get from that. But maybe I’ll compare a previous fast lap and see if I can match it w tire sounds off. 😊

    • @Slakass55
      @Slakass55 9 месяцев назад +1

      Cranking up tire sounds just makes plain sense. It is the ONLY thing between your vehicle and the tarmac. For anyone that's driven a street car hard, you absolutely must listen to what the tire is doing, especially when taking corners on the very limit - which is tough as you must turn the tunes down, which feels really odd but anyway.
      Someone on youtube has a video on how to remove the TC sound, which some apparently confuse with a tire slide. Sounds to me that if those folks were to leave the TC sound alone and crank up the tire volume that they'd be able to distinguish the difference, instead of gutting the game.

    Great tips here Mike! I turn off the "head movement" in absolutely every sim. It gives me motion sickness and the way sims slowly move the dash up and down to try and replicate elevation change is terrible. For me personally it's very distracting and I have never felt anything remotely close to that in my real world driving.

    • @DanDiMaggio

      Also, how much better is that ffb custom file than default +? I used to use custom files in AMS 2 but ever since they updated default + I have felt the need for customs anymore. I'll have to check this one out!

    • @bertram-raven
      @bertram-raven 9 месяцев назад +2

      It's a personal preference. I turn it off, but many don't like it that way. The most important point is any screen movement should match the feeling you are getting. Indeed, there are many reports of those turning off head movement feel more motion sickness than when it is off.
      Like I said - it is all very personal.

There is definitely a huge disconnect and you feel like you are hovering above the road. I'm sure over time you'll get used to it, but first impressions after a long hiatus is quite jarring

    I posted here in another reply, but to be more visible, here it is: I also found pitch to have a big importance on the "center-wheel" effect some (including me) complained about. Lower the car's pitch until the wheels/front axle of the car are at the bottom of the screen. That's where 'I feel' the FFB and having the wrong pitch (wheels/front axle more towards the top/middle of the screen) make it feel there is an axle/wheel beneath our seat. Hope it makes sense.

    I turned down the tire volume and it does make a difference to my perception. I already had the same settings for the camera. The FullFFB I didn't have and it is really good (version 12 now). I have a Moza R5 so of course the Pithouse settings will also affect the FFB. I am in the habit of setting the in game FFB too 100 and then adjusting the Pithouse Game Force Feedback Intensity downwards. So after watching your video I set the in-game FFB to 47 and put the Pithouse one to 100 thinking that this would deliver the same feel as the way I do it. It doesn't. I actually prefer my way of doing it. It would be interesting to hear from you your Moza settings so I can try to duplicate somehow what feel you actually get. I know this comment seems all confusing for which I am sorry. But any and all information about how people set up the FFB for AMS2 is useful I think.

I would really like to see you compare same car / same track between AC and AMS2 and describe the feeling differences. I have a VRS wheelbase and have my AC dialed in. I use Brands Hatch to test out new cars. I cannot get AMS2 to feel similar to AC and I'm not sure if it is even possible.
    If you could do a couple of same car / same course laps and describe what you feel on AC and what is missing in AMS2 that would be awesome. I just cannot put my finger on it, and not sure if it is a settings problem or just a difference between how the two game engines work.

      I know you;re not asking me but a major thing missing is the sense of weight shift to the cars, Meaning slamming the brakes and doing a hard turn isn't punished by oversteer. Any other sim does that. Also the pivot point comes from the center of the car, not the front wheels. Very unnatural, especially in high downforce cars.

    • @SimRacing604
      @SimRacing604  9 месяцев назад +1

      Great question. The best analogy I can make is that the base FFB profile is a song, and the custom FFB file is a cover of that song. And the sliders are the bass, mid, treble. So the FFB profile (Default, Default+, Custom) has a unique feel, and the sliders make adjustments to that unique feel. No amount of adjustment of the sliders will make the Custom FFB profile feel like the original. Hope that makes any sense.

      The real difference lies in the customisability, especially simple with the FullFFB file mentioned in the video. For me, personally, the best aspect of it is the option to change vertical forces by editing one value since I really hate having my entire cheap wheel stand jump if I happen to not hold my feet firmly on the pedals when going over a bump. I usually also disable the engine effect in the FX section and play with the scrub values a bit, and the possibility of doing that is what definitely makes it worth a try if you've got the time to experiment a little bit and personalise the settings for yourself.

    Why dont all of the Dormula Hightec Don't have DRS?

    • @bertram-raven
      @bertram-raven 9 месяцев назад +2

      Because not all of the cars they represent have hydraulic only suspension. Indeed, the DRS is just the front lifting - there is not opening of wing slots etc.
      There are plenty of videos from Reiza which explain this, as well as the details in the car menus themselves.

    something must be off if we need to fiddle with some custom ffb profile to make it feel plausible. rf2, ac, acc, all work just fine out of the box. There must be something buried deep in the fiziks that still needs to be addressed.

    • @EdisonArias
      @EdisonArias 9 месяцев назад +1

      I use default+ and I'm fine, I don't really know the need for fiddle with it, but then again so many hardware and usually people want the Sim to feel as they like, I interpret that as trying to make every Sim feel the same way and I personally find that boring, but I'm slow and casual so I don't really cout 😅

    • @justpostedagain
      @justpostedagain 9 месяцев назад

      I think AMS2 makes it relatively easy to fiddle with, so people fiddle. Default is fine for me.
      By way of comparison. There is a 70 page thread on the rF2 forums about fiddling with FFB settings. And that is generally acknowledged to be the best sim on that front.

      No, Default/Default+ works great for a lot of people. For others, a custom file could be the key (not everyone likes the same)

      I don't mind. I'm not a "creator" and I just wanted more people to get a chance at an improved experience with the game so having some actual "sim racing youtubers" pick up on these little tips and sharing them sounds like a win to me albeit I wouldn't mind for an invitation to experiment with the custom FFB settings to be included (especially with JP's file which makes it extremely easy) and, of course, an acknowledgment that the default setups are usually extremely oversteery and people should be aware of that before they blame everything on "bad physics".

    • @Theoloop
      @Theoloop 9 месяцев назад

      @@papryk3102 fair enough I guess. I agree that it’s needs to be common knowledge so more people can enjoy the sim. Maybe even new defaults on the game especially the camera. I disagree via setups though personally , alot of them are understeery and frankly inconsistent between cars. Defaults need work for sure either way.

    I use a custom FFB profile - everyone should. The Default and Default+ profiles attempt to feel "okay" for a wide range of wheels. Just like ALL other sims, you need to tweak things to be as you want.
    It is good to see a high-profile RUclipsr showing this. Note: ALWAYS check notes in the custom FFB file. The LFB, FX, and DAMPING sliders may not related directly to their indicated function in the menu. For example, even with a DD2 on 100% my profile requires I use GAIN to reduce the range, LFB to tune Fast-Bump effects, FX tune Slow-bump effects, and DAMPING to move effects balance. YMMV.
    *IMPORTANT* - always restart AMS2 after changing the custom FFB settings in the file. It will not be reloaded automatically - it is currently only loaded at start.
    There are ways to blow away anything you feel from AMS, rf2, ACC, and AC - so far you have done about half of them 🙂

    People say AMS2 isn't a PC2 mod yet that FFB file was developed for PC2 and AMS2 uses it because they have the same FFB and physics issues.
