  • Shafts, Smooth Rods, and Screws...Of course I am talking about robot drive systems. The front idler shafts of my Antweight combat robot have been a problem since the very beginning. Today, I am taking another look at a solution using shoulder bolts as drive shafts.

    Hoping that now the bolt is recessed a bit more into the wheel, there is also a bit less chance for getting a direct hit from another weapon.
    3:58 if your topology isn't too bad, you can probably select edge loops like this by holding control+alt and left clicking on one of the edges (the line between two vertices that are part of the loop).

      That’s an interesting point about the recessed drive shaft. I’ve got armor to help prevent those kind of hits, but it is a valuable tip for other robot designs.
