I went to Bideford on holiday and had a fantastic 2 weeks but the highlight of my stay was coming across John's shop.

This is a lovely piece of film, wonderful to see John speaking and showing recent works. I regard myself as privileged to own a few of John's pieces. They are fun at one level, really attractive, yet grounded in a profound grasp of human experience too. He shows funny observations and moments of loneliness, tragi-comedy as well as humour. Thank you John, you enrich our lives!

It’s funny, because woodland owners I’ve spoken to who have Lime trees consider there is no market for the wood. It is regarded as worthless, and just left to rot.
I ask if they’ve heard of Grinling Gibbons (1648-1721). Most of his most famous pieces were carved from Lime. His work is regarded as the pinnacle of carving genius.
If carvers and landlords could only get together, there could be a valuable synergy.
