Thanks Doug. Taking a Wed evening wood carving class. I finished a few 18th cent. type carvings and now I want to spend a lot of time carving caricatures so I ordered a number of these books. Can't wait to start.

Wow I thought I had a lot of books on carving. Plus most of the carving magazines, plus chip chats you doubled mine. They are the right way to go. Thanks ps amazon has a lot of basic free books so far a lot of them look like the same book by different authors its really sad. Really pay attention before you buy

Aside from carving you will also need to learn how to sharpen knifes and chisels(Doug has videos about sharpening on his channel) , if you don't now it already. But once you master both there are no boundaries in what you can carve.

Hi Doug. Great video. Did you know the book "Head Proportions Made Simple by Ivan Whillock" is being sold for prices in the hundreds mostly. I found one for around $30 (I live in the UK). It might be a great book but nowhere near the value being asked for it. Do you know of another good book for heads and faces? Judging by the number of people I have seen discussing the problems with head and faces I think this could be an opportunity for someone as skilled as you to publish your own book. Anyway, as always I enjoyed this video. Thank you.

I had about 10 years of woodworking magazines, last December I went to get one with a Santa Claus carving? Lo & behind the entire collection disappeared into the Bermuda Triangle. Actually my wife threw them away without asking. Not the first time some of my stuff has disappeared and she swears she didn't do it even though I have the evidence on my ring video camera.

It is common for ppl to ask about your “favorite”. Allow me to disgorge my unsolicited opinion on the value of the value of talking about favorites. I don’t go for it. I harbor no Hatred of the concept. In fact I think ppl say it without really wanting to know your Literal favorite. It’s more of a conversation starter or a way to get someone who knows something to tell them about it so the next time the subject comes up THEY will be the person whose depths can b e plumbed for Their favorite something or another. There are a few more thoughts but I’ve already tuckered myself out and will save the rest of my thesis and findings for another session.
