Wow this is so strange to see the glades all abandoned. I used to come here with my dad as a kid, this evokes a lot of memories. The only real reason for closure was to save money.
Wow I used to go here a lot as a kid, I'm sad it's closed the way it was done out kinda like a beach with the shallow and going deep, I used to love the wave machine, it makes me sad that I can't take my children to it ☹️
Blast from the past. I used to go there all the time as a kid. Maybe 12 to 14 years since I was last there. Sad to see it has become this. But thank you for taking the time and risk to film it. Got some great childhood memories of the place.
I grew up in Kiddy, and remember this place being built in 1984-5 and then getting the day off school to see Princess Di open it around Easter '86. It was on Central News! Later it would be a big part of my childhood - walking into town with mates in the early 90s to go swimming there on a Saturday afternoon, and the roller disco (which I believe was still going right until the end and was the place to be during high school, before we were old enough to get into Mirage!) Then later on, renting out the sports hall on a Sunday evening for a kickabout. All these leisure pools are closing now. They were very much an 80s thing and were great for getting kids used to the water, but apparently now people want to pound up and down doing lengths because since the stupid obesity thing got the govt involved, sport isn't meant to be fun anymore, but something to be taken deadly seriously. The glades cost millions to build, was a nice modern building with all the exposed brick (compared to the soulless glass boxes they throw up now) but wasn't even open 30 years. This is the sort of criminal waste that Tory councils love, but Wyre Forest does seem to be amongst the worst for it. As other have said, why not refurb it instead of building a brand new one in a place you have to drive? Why not refurb Crown House as council offices? That's the history of Kiddy from the 1950s on, short sighted decisions and half-arsed plans that line powerful pockets at the expense of the town, it's heritage and facilities. I left 20 years ago and have never regretted it.
Thanks for posting this vid, I had no idea it had closed much less been removed from existence. Seeing it empty and still like that is nostalgic and melancholy. I have loads of memories of being taken there with my sister in the early to mid 90’s. We’d go every Sunday and then go to the Maccies in town afterwards. It’s a pity it’s gone now.
It's heart breaking watching this, this was so many our of childhoods :( Used to go every Saturday afternoon then to maccies (where Poundland is now) anyone else? :( Also all the birthday parties that were up in the ballpit area up stairs. Man, miss those days so much! It feels like this was the last part of my childhood and now even that's gone. RIP Kiddy, you'll never be the same.
Knew it was going too happen a leisure centre outside glasgow called the playdrome now closed and awaiting demo had the squash court pool partys wave machine flume and inflatable ring flume used too have the same alarm on the door really easy too set off great video tho these places could go on with a facelift as great leisure centres but the council just spent millions on new building with out these great features
@@XhristinaMacey Thanks for replying mate, I get concerned about people's safety when alone, you don't know who's about and I remember the Crystal Leisure Centre in Stourbridge - used to go there as a teenager with my friends, it's still running to this day but customers say it needs decorating!! I remember the Glades so well! went every Saturday, even showed up on the last day it was open. First time I went was around about 2010, I learned to swim in this place! Seeing this brings all them amazing memories back, I was and still am so devastated they demolished such a happy place to be and have done nothing good with it since. So so sad I feel like I'm gonna shiver! I only went there back in July before it closed, it was so good I went to my friends party there back in 2013 and it was a great place. I wonder whether you were allowed in there because it looks to me like a few people have proven in since it's closed and also the squash court there lol! It almost made me cry. Shame Crystal leisure centre and Dudley are going to be shut down and one built in Lye. No accessible swimming pools with flumes in the West Midlands now. Shame ;(
It's not just sad, can we have a statement from Wyre Forest Council as to why a perfectly good leisure centre has been allowed to deteriorate like this? Local Authorities are the first to say how tight money is yet they can waste taxpayers money in so many ways. Top marks to the people who have exposed this scandal, thank you for posting it. For me it is particularly sad, as we used to go here with our beautiful daughter, who died many years ago.
Colin the police tried to make out I was being anti social posting this video with a BS letter through the post , nothing more than council agenda with big fat brown envelopes being the order of the day with these occultist shit heads . thanks for stopping by the channel

What a waste my children used to love going there they are now in their late 30s and early 40s.Thanks for the video bought back some happier times. It reminded me of seeing the Titanic after it had sunk.
Don't worry, speculators and developers will convert it into flats that ordinary people like us won't be able to afford just like everywhere else. What's not to like? Yay!!
Great video, At the deepest end of the pool was a wave machine, I don't know if she remembers but I saved a young girl from drowning, Unfortunately the life guard hadn't noticed, she was in a bad way after I had dragged her out, But was a ok after coughing up the excess water 10 mins later, Good job I was watching, Also was a regular at the gym there, Good Times.
It’s so shit that the builders knocked it down. I remember last time I came here I was about 9 it’s a shame they knocked down because I would have went there just to see it again one more time. I do miss the place I really do
Who is definitely the place to be in the 80s I have many happy memories too I just wish I made a better job of filming but we can only move forward in life
This reminds me of cascades swimming pool in Gravesend Kent England where I used to go as a kid in the early to mid or even late 2000s. It was open in the 70s and had palm trees, huge tubes and a wave machine. It's still open. Love how you are filming while drinking beer and still filmed the place after the alarm went off. Prue dedication.
indeed it is, I remember Lady Di opening these baths in the 80s was a proud day for the area, we used to travel there on the train from Stourbridge before the crystal
What a shame to close such a nice place! Really enjoyed this video, we have a place just like this (still open) around Lancaster, that place would take a couple of weeks to get back up and running, what a waste!
councils up and down the country making themselves rich with forced public tax while the rest suffer, we need to send them to the gallows and watch while there necks are stretched, thanks for stopping by the channel
Turns out the reason why this shut down is because it moved to (I think Stourport) but now that one is actually going bad so the owner of Glades made a big mistake. Why did this have to happen, Glades is one of my favourite childhood places and I miss it?! :'(
I went here a few times when I lived in Kiddy for a short while. Anyone remember the oval shaped rapids section? And the tidal waves that would activate now and then? I almost drowned here by walking into a deep section, but magically learned to swim. Good memories at this place. Sad it’s been closed.
yes the pool in stourbridge is very similar i remember getting sucked into the wave machine bars which used to scare me. Than k you for sharing your thoughts with me best wishes
Glades was built just before the crystal in the 80s fun pools were amazing , instead of building on this the councils have closed them all and replaced them with tiny box pools
What a massive place to just get abandoned, and all those floodlights still burning in the pool area was crazy! I'm guessing all the handrails in the building were brass?
So sad to see this... Why do they have to move so far away from Kiddy (as in walking distance) so many memories in here... I went swimming when I was small here and the gym before it closed 😭 I still haven't been to the new one, I'll have to try it soon 😊
This place had a really cool set of flumes. Real shame that they shut down this place because when I went here just before they shut it down, I had a blast :D
Me too it was such a vibrant and happening place I’ve got lots of happy memories there x I wish I’ve done a better job of the video but I can’t go back and change it now
We prefer this one as its perfect for my toddler to be splashing around in the shallow waters. They said its all about saving money, but then again where all those money going to anyway? What a waste closing down such a great facility for kids and adults.
yes I did scare my mates off , I put an extra sounding alarm over the top of the vid which makes people think the vids fake . thanks for stopping by the channel .
Great vid, thanks for sharing. That was ballsy hanging around after the alarm went off but I'm glad you did! You mentioned the Police contacted you about the video. Did they threaten you with charges for trespassing?
lol yeah it was all a bit embarrassing for them really the local council and the police both wrote me telling me to take the video down and told me I had broken in, my reply was arrest me then to which they didn't as no crime had taken place. was a good one but my camera work and edit was poor with this one. cheers Leighton
I went there today, they've been knocking the place down over the past few weeks, but I managed to film a video there today before it fully closed down, video out Tuesday
Why knock something down just because you can't be bothered to make it better? What's the betting the new 'Glades' will suffer the same fate in a few years time, when all that's wanted is the land its on & how much money can be made from selling it? It was a community resource which could have still served this community in some form or another (with a bit of thought...but who seems to have that amongst planners nowadays?) And don't get me started on Crown House... why move the Council offices out of town when, with some TLC (and consideration for local people) it could be used so well.
It's a crying shame that this was closed. It was a fantastic pool for taking kids for a relatively inexpensive trip out, and perfect for toddlers due to it's 'beach effect' which allowed little ones to paddle and get used to the pool. The new pool (Stourport Road) is just a standard swimming pool and caters only to those who wish to swim up and down - nice for them, VERY boring for children. And frankly, there was no need for it - there is at least one gymn in Kidderminster that has a swimming pool to cater for the 'only want to swim lengths' crowd. I tend to ignore the new Kidderminster pool and take my little one to the Crystal in Stourbridge instead.
I totally agree with you , you know The Crystal is condemned and is just a matter of time before it too becomes like the Glades . thanks for stopping by
I didn't realise that the Crystal had been condemned too! What a disgrace; no fun pool in the area to take a child for a little splash. I have very little interest in taking my little one to a bog-standard swimming pool. Anyhow - thanks for the video :)
I'm sorry, but watching clips from when Kidderminster was thriving puts me in a bad way mentally, mainly because ... I just feel so bad for the next generation of children because there's nothing for them to do, everyone bangs on about the new gen will be more ignorant and worse, this is why? Play centres, playgrounds abandoned because of fear of child predators. Parents are scared to take their kids to the park because something might happen to them, it's kinda sad in a way. Also they have to do it because the trust in people is gone. The parents think their kids have things to do, this is one example of that statement being false and they're wondering why they're on social media or browsing on their phones. There is one thing that troubles me is why did it shut? The last I saw of this was, it was being refurbished, but now you're implying it's abandoned... so sad. I went here for a swim in 2007 maybe with my school and quite honestly, it was the best trip I ever went on. Now it's gone *sigh*.
Shame this place no more as it was a nice pool. Before my time but heard some good bands used to play there. Should have kept it open and put bands on again
Indeed they should have what a terrible waste, they didnt like this vid and tried to get YT to pull it down because it shows all the power on in the building lol glad YT sided with me, its deffo not one of the best vids I have ever done but its maybe the best subject matter x
so so so sad I remember the last time I went there it was 2013 that my cousin b day but I use to go weekend with my cousin which was 2010 so sad to say it flat now
Remember the day that the whole town turned out for the opening ? Lady Diana opened the Glades, it's a town memory, now rubble..
I remember that as well
Wow this is so strange to see the glades all abandoned. I used to come here with my dad as a kid, this evokes a lot of memories. The only real reason for closure was to save money.

Me too it was such a vibrant and happening place I’ve got lots of happy memories there x I wish I’ve done a better job of the video but I can’t go back and change it now
@@XhristinaMacey I loved the slides and I’m sure it had waves there. 1988 - 1990
Basically breaking and entering and trespass
Without the breaking anything just entering trespassing yes 👍
I went here before. It was so much fun!
I agree, have a good one
@@XhristinaMacey i don't understand why they shut it down 😒
Nice video! Looks like it was a cool place back in the day.
ive bean there when the pool was open it was shit xD
History Rambler Mark it was great 😄

Me too
Hasn't it been knocked down now though??
I'm only asking because i havent been past there since i moved away.

ahhh my childhood :((
Mine too ❤️ so many memories wish I’d have done a better job filming
Just noticed my comment was 6yrs too late hehe
Yes a old vid
The memories of that place. The new one is rubbish in comparison.
indeed, the council took all the fun away
This is an excellent video I Macey x
I wished id have made a better job of this one, cheers for the kind words Michael
Really sad, why has it been closed it was a great sports centre ...used to come here quite often a few years ago.
We prefer this one as its perfect for my toddler to be splashing around in the shallow waters. They said its all about saving money, but then again where all those money going to anyway? What a waste closing down such a great facility for kids and adults.
I used to love this place!
looks like would have been amazing
i jumped out my fucking skin when that alarm went off lol i swear my heart stopped hahhaha
yes I did scare my mates off , I put an extra sounding alarm over the top of the vid which makes people think the vids fake . thanks for stopping by the channel .
Cool find,
thanks for watching .
What’s the music
Chris Grey fragmented records
I remember doing a refurb on this place in 2008, possible last one before it closed
It was a great place
Andyjb6 I agree they should never of shut this place down. I used to go there as a kid and used to take my kids until recently. It's a crying shame!
Yeah, I went to Crystal since 2012, The place was good, The slides were good and there was waves there too. I ♥ THAT PLACE SO MUCH THOUGH.
I remember going there at Ashley Burf it is such a shame when they closed it down.
Yes the place should have been improved or replaced
WHY THE HELL DID U DO THAT, THATS REALLY NAUGHTY!?
do what ? I just documented an interesting place which now sadly no longer exists
Alisha - shut up !
What a shame i thought this place was modern and cool
I did too x thanks for sharing your thoughts 💭👍
Leisure Centre Forest Glades in Kidderminster but for right now was closing down in 2016 and then has moved to Silver wood Way has opened.
Thank you for the info William
Every time I go to the dentist next door to it I think that WHY CLOSE

Shame this place closed especially since they're not even doing anything with the land its just an empty overgrown field

Me too
Shame this place no more as it was a nice pool.
