My daughter turned me on to Beach House. They’re so easy to vibe to. Gorgeous. This is a stunner!

Honestly dream pop originated in the 80s, but Beach House mastered and perfected it by bringing in post-rock and shoegaze elements and capturing atmosphere in ways that seem effortless.

Absolutely LOVE this band. ( Side Note: I created two different FIllmore posters for them). They have a really good catalog. "The Traveller," "Common Girl," "The Hours," "Wishes" "PPP," are all worthy follow up songs. Ethereal, mesmerizing beauties. Pure definition of Dream Pop. Don't worry about mixing up the lead vocalist. Victoria has this unique voice that spans the difference between sounds. I found it hard to decide if it was an upper-register male voice or a lower register female voice She's amazing.

Always loved how this track goes almost-but-not-quite full shoegaze at the end.
Beach House is one of the more consistent bands of the past 15 years or so. All of the albums have been very good, and while they all maintain the same basic sound, there is a lot of variation within that framework that keeps them from simply repeating themselves. Even though you always know it's them, the songs and albums don't all sound the same.
2022's 'Once Twice Melody' is a masterpiece imo, a true double-album with 18 songs and not a clunker among them. In a sane musical world it would have been nominated for a Grammy.

Great reaction! Just FYI it's really mostly Victoria with the vocals, even the lower parts. She's got a really cool voice. One of my favorite bands and they're still putting out some great stuff.

Beach House puts me on another planet. I haven't been able to listen to them lately, but I look forward to the day I can. I feel like a broken record, but glad you enjoyed it. It wasn't something I expected so I was happy to see it 😊

Hi JustJP, so glad you checked Beach House out, pretty awesome dream pop revival sorta band. They're pretty heavily influenced by cocteau twins and their contemporaries, but have more modern production/vocals imo giving a different vibe. Their songs all sound similar but I don't even mind since the textures are so intoxicating. Their most popular song/probably my favorite of theirs is "Space Song" which you should definitely listen to if you get the opportunity. One of the essential songs of the 2010s amongst younger music nerds haha

I was happy to see this video pop up in my notifications. I'm generally into more progressive stuff but I enjoy Beach House a lot. While they're not super complex, you can tell they put in a ton of effort and attention to detail at perfecting their style and they execute it so well. This song is indicative of their indie dream pop type sound. And an FYI that Victoria is the lead vocalist.

Welcome to Norway! I'm pretty sure there's many people who would like to give you vinly gifts if they know you're coming to their neighbourhood. :) While we are a small country, we tend to be very proud of our cultural output.

I don’t tend to listen to modern music, but Beach House is utterly sublime. I’d also recommend The War on Drugs and Future Islands

+1 for Future Islands. Start with "In the Evening Air" and then move to "On the Water". So catchy and dramatic music... excited about the new album coming as well but you can't beat the first 2 albums in my mind. I'm biased as I was living in Baltimore at the time when Sam Sessa would always spin this band on WTMD. As a teaser... think Orson Wells fronting New Order... If that doesn't get you interested to check out a band I don't know what will...

Gorgeous, shimmering dream pop. I love Beach House - funnily enough, I only posted about them on your Discord channel yesterday! That's Victoria on lead vocals throughout this track, by the way.

Back in the smart what? Decade I threw away the CD cases
Stored em in a folder fax file system without the covers in an effort to save space
I also bought a Beach House download
    It had no identity
    But it was very pretty
    And floaty
We also went to see Napoleon Dynamite on a whim on its first day of release
These were the innocent digital peace years
Butcompared to the 70s they were too close to sterility for comfort.
    But now I hear this
Read the comments and can smile
    Well done Beach House!
The Blue Nile in the Afterlife?

Evening, Justin. Dave from Across The Ocean. I like a bit a dreamy melodic pop, and this track sounded to me like a cross between Cocteau Twins and OMD - I'd like to hear more.
P.S. my much used song ref Across The Ocean is by Meer, a melodic pop/prog band from Norway that Knut might well know.

If you get in the mood for spending a little more than an hour in the virtual Bergen Public Library with a singer, violinist and singer, pianist, and drummer (who uses his bare paws at times) - to get in the mood for Norway, maybe - I can highly recommend *A Night at the Library* ruclips.net/video/6PIP36aczlg/видео.html
(I go back there quite often. Must be obsessed. Hmm, so this is what it feels like to be obsessed? I always wondered what it must be like to be obsessed. So far I don't mind it at all. Can't see what all the fuss is about.)
(I've almost certainly recommended it before, but maybe some newcomers to these pastures might chance on it and find themselves enjoying the trip.)

  • @kevind4850
    @kevind4850 5 месяцев назад

Overall, it left me conflicted. Yes, it has a dreamy quality throughout, yet at the same time, the percussion and some changeups were dissonant notes that made me want it to go more in one direction or the other. If I take your interpretation of someone enjoying an about-to-be-foreclosed pool, that makes sense, but still irritated me.

Another lot I've not heard of... That said, it was ok for what is was, that ethereal shoegazy type stuff. Nice when you're in the right mood, which I am on occasion. Checking out their blurb they seemed a little late to the party. I remember most of this stuff from late 80's, 90's. Not that that matters, just an observation.

"Everyday consumer product" compared to whom? My guess is that 99% of everyday music consumers don't even know stuff like this exists.

@@robgrano6814 ...compared to less common stuff! In any case, 99% of everyday music consumers only know what they hear on TV or radio. Most don't look any further than that.
