Damn you witty man with a beautiful voice selling us games like it's your job. But seriously, your reviews are so VISUAL and easy to follow, really helps to find games for my level!
While I haven't seen all your videos (yet), this has some EXCELLENT still image/video work. Superb quality, and I laughed out loud with your "best thing about this game" because it's bang on. One of my favourite games, great review!
My husband and I are big Tiny Towns fans. I know the appeal of the bingo-style mechanic is that more players doesn’t extend the playtime; however I think it plays best at 2. It becomes a different game with more players. At 2 you can still navigate your plans around the other player’s. At higher player counts you’re mostly trying to guess the plans of the group so that you can make the same building but hopefully in a better layout that will get you more points. I think there’s more player autonomy at 2p and it’s less reactionary. It’s probably an 8.5 for me at 2p and a 7 at higher player counts.
Thank you for the recommendations at the end for similar games but that suit different puzzle styles. Came here from your Isle of Cats video and now checking out the cube one you mentioned.
Fantastic game and great review. I got to play this with the designer at GenCon 2019. Family fun, easy to learn, a true gateway game especially for young kids. Expansions are out there but not needed for this highly replayable game!
This is by far my favorite gaming channel. I've found many great games through your videos and have many more on my wishlist. My wife would love this one, buying immediately!
Yeah I'm not sure where I went wrong with this game. I had to quit after about 15 minutes. The pieces, placements, and all the buildings was a bit too much for people like me
Tiny towns, i can see why this one is super popular. But for me personally, its a little bit frustrating to play. I also kinda suck at this type of puzzle game.
well, I think the fact that is so short really helps not to get frustrated. made a mistake? laugh about it and just roll with it, it's gonna be over soon anyways.
Yeah, super mean. I dont mind it so much as the play time is short. A first turn mistake the buries you on something like food chain magnate is way worse
Such a great game. Very well done on the review because I feel like there aren't too many rules if any you left out. Such a fun puzzle in solo mode too and if you get any or all of the expansions, you'll likely never have the same game twice
Not tried it sorry, so not sure. That does sound more forgiving though. I'm not sure the harshness is an issue as such, more of a feature that will not appeal to all.
The biggest flaw of the game is that with most card combinations, there is pretty much only one viable strategy and everyone kind of goes for it. trying to be the odd one out is super risky, as you'd need cubes none else picks and you'd probably have to aim for super risky large buildings, which is just a giant gamble.
@@3MBG ah apparently the variant is in the back of the rulebook (I’ve not played Tiny Towns so this is based on a review). There is a deck of cards that feature 3 of each resource. Each turn you draw top card, everyone gets that resource. When the deck has 3 (?) cards left it’s all shuffled back in. Was related to Welcome To or Railroad Inc in a “make the best of what you get” style, rather than a more player interactive (but predictable) style that you get with the main game.
You sold me to try this game, which I have been dismissing for a while now xD Btw, I was trying to check for the podcast and noticed there is only two episodes from last year. Did you ended up giving up on that idea?

Best boardgame reviewer on RUclips. You deserve more subscribers!
kia ora Bennie, much appreciated.

Cheers. There's like a whole game compressed into 20 seconds at the video start that took ages to shoot. So thank you.
@@3MBG I was wondering if that was a full game or not!! How many pictures total??
49 :)

You sounded very excited to say that it has a solo mode lol

Great review Jarrod! I struggle with games based on spatial relationships - so this one didn't resonate with me when I played it. Thx!

I kinda hear you, I think the concept is 10/10, but the game execution is very weak.... Bringing the game down to like a 6/10 at best
Is like they try really REALLY hard turning an app game into boardgame form
@@Yaoau YES! Very much so.
it will become better with more routine. Reading where to place the buildings to score the boni hepls too...
Awesome review 👍 thank you!
This seems like a really tight and mean old school Euro. Eliminating oneself with an early error seems just on par for that kind of game.
Yeah, super mean. I dont mind it so much as the play time is short. A first turn mistake the buries you on something like food chain magnate is way worse
@@3MBG Couldn't agree more. Imagine being forced to play a game for 3 hours after realizing you have no chance of winning - that's Food Chain Magnate.
i wish everdell and catacomb cubes plays 6.. this is our go to for 6 player city building
6 is tricky, you really need simultaneous actions like this or 7 wonders to stop it slowing down too much. Mosaic i think works at 6 despite that
@@3MBG neat, another recommendation. will check it out

Yeah, it was just complex enough to fit everything in without padding i think.
Does the fortunes expansions fix any issues for you? Like using coins to avoid a cube you don't want to use?
Not tried it sorry, so not sure. That does sound more forgiving though. I'm not sure the harshness is an issue as such, more of a feature that will not appeal to all.
this really looks quite clever.
It's so good. It's the only board game my wife and I have played on the last three weeks.

Had some games where one or 2 buildings just seemed "not worth it for the effort" as well
What do,you think of the variant where all resources are random? I know for SU&SD this was a must option.
Not played it, but how were they randomized?

Yeah, at least in its current format. We were about to start again when lockdown/covid started and i just havent picked it back up
I will wait for some update on that regard. Thanks
Another fantastic review...you always make me want to go out and buy another game!!
Sounds like cartographers
I played it once, it was a pass for me, but I think my partner my like... For me it feels like Azul somehow.
I got this last month and I've played a TON since then
Sold after 2 plays, not our type of game - and that doesn't happen often.
Yeah, im not sure how long i'll keep it. Ill see how it goes at family game nights
Quick and fun
Nice review, but not my type of game
