Hello! I am Japanese. I went to New York in the summer of 2019. At that time, I was able to get on the R42. At that time, I couldn't take much pictures without knowing that I would retire. After all, some Americans also like railways! We will continue to watch videos, thank you.

Nassau Via Tunnel meant the Old Brown "M" Train. The M ran down 4th Av Line Along with the R to Brooklyn. Ending at Bay Parkway, West End Express. On the D Line. The Service ended in 2010 when it was to supposed to replace the V Train.
*Edit* : replacing the V train when it was time for V Line to retire. Unlike the W, it wasn't brought back to service, yes W Line also ended in 2010 bit came back in late 2017.

It says Broadway because for the (R) which goes down Broadway, and it says Nassau because for the (M) which used to go via the (J) (Z) (Nassau line) until Broad St, and then during rush hours it would extend to Brooklyn again via the (R) until 36 St and then the (D) until Bay Pkwy.

I wasn’t even born when the rectangle letter trains were there in 1969. They only used it on the A train for the retirement of the R42. Previously, it was on the F, C, E, B, D, H, J, L, M, N, Q, R, S, and W trains before it goes into the bullet signs.

I don't know if I'm completely correct, but the Nassau street (brown-colored) trains are connected to the 4th avenue line, which is the reason for the display and how the brown M made it to Bay Parkway on the D train during rush hours back in the day.

    • @TheBronxFanner
      @TheBronxFanner 4 года назад

You are, as that you are correct. Also, Nassau (brown) are the (J) (Z) trains. But, when the (M) shuttle came, instead of Orange (M) it was brown (M).

@JaePlayzTrainz The M was mostly a long shuttle to Chambers street before 2010. The V was extended over the Christie Street Connection onto the BMT Jamaica and Myrtle Avenue lines. It took the M designation because there had been an M for a lot longer than a V.

The BMT south use to be part of the Nassau st Line as far as Chambers st.
Usually, the West END number 3 ran through the Nassau Loop in either direction to and from the Manhattan Bridge along with the Bankers Specials.
Bankers Specials were usually operated along 4th Ave or Brighton lines during peak hours looping between Chambers st and southern Brooklyn.
In 1967,the Transit Authority initiated the Chrystie st Connection, that combined the IND system with the BMT south and Eastern Division routes.
With this, services over the Manhattan Bridge were all through routed to either Broadway or 6th Avenue, ending services through the Nassau Loop routes.
The replacement lines were QJ,RJ,B,D and QB.
First..the QJ was combined with the former QT/TT/15 lines to form one single line operating from 168th st Jamaica to Brighton Beach. This line replaced the Bankers Special called M Nassau st Express also.
It operated 6am to 730pm..to Brighton Beach..830pm to Kings Hwy.
The QB was the night and weekend Brighton Astoria local service that was due to be canceled..but passengers still wanted to reach Broadway from Brighton lines.
So the QB was made a rush hour service only.
The RJ was a direct replacement for 4th Ave Bankers Special, but traveling to Jamaica directly.
The BB combined with the T/TT WEST END to form the B 6th Avenue Express, operating weekdays between west 4th st midday,168th st Washington heights peak hours..and Coney Island.
Evenings and weekends, the TT service returned as the West END shuttle from 36th st 4th Ave to Coney Island.
The D train moved from the IND Culver line to replace the BMT Q Broadway Express services that operated weekdays only..rush hour Express service along the Brighton line.
No Q service at night or weekends or holidays.
The D operated from the Bronx 205th st to Coney Island at all times.
Express service along Brighton operated 7am to 8pm weekdays.
Today, the Nassau st Loop tunnel Connection is not in service...though it could be useful because of its connection to both the financial district and downtown Brooklyn..and the southern division as a whole.
The last route to use the cut in regular service was the M West end line.
Because this route didn't go where most people wanted to go..ridership dwindled to below acceptable levels.
The 2010 service cuts put forth a deceptive decision that pit one potential service against another as a "no choice " proposal.
Send the service uptown through a defunct former service from the Chrystie st project..and combine it with the hated V Queens Blvd Local..or truncate the M to Chambers st only.
The entire project was to end Nassau Brooklyn services.
The V was rerouted to Chrystie st, Broadway Brooklyn and Myrtle Avenue to Metropolitan Ave, eliminating the M line from South Brooklyn and Queens.
However, people were more familiar with the M bullet..as pointed out by the riders..and didn't want the V replacing M service.
So, the MTA eliminated the V, kept the M but still rerouted services to 6th Avenue and Queens Blvd to Forest Hills.
While the was fantastic in terms of giving riders a direct connection to midtown, the loss of downtown Brooklyn service was met with protest.
The obvious choice would have been to extend the J line back into South Brooklyn, but the MTA didn't proceed with the plan.
To this day..BMT 4th Ave Local service is solely dependent on the R Queens Blvd local Broadway Local.
    Horrible service.
Late trains..leading up to waits of 20 to 40 minutes at times.
The lack of Nassau st service is glaring.
However every push for the reintroduction has been met with "we don't care" attitude by transit operations.
Yet a recent proposal by the MTA has pushed for a new line to Redhook Brooklyn.
    Unbelievable.

DeKalb has annunciators. Those are the informational signs that light up when a train arrives. You won't see "Nassau St." illuminated anymore because no regular service goes there anymore. They used to have more signs: Brighton, Sea Beach, West End, Culver, 4th Ave. as well as, Via Bridge and Via Tunnel.

It says Nassau for trains that used the Nassau Street Loop. Trains using the Nassau Street Loop originated on the services to Coney Island and Bay Ridge. All the services merged at DeKalb Avenue station, and then split into four tracks over the Manhattan Bridge and two through the Montague Street Tunnel

Originally (before the M was rerouted via 6th Ave) M trains used to run to Bay Parkway and Brighton Beach once the QJ was dropped and became the J (see under)
(Also back in the day the QJ (a 70s route) ran to Coney Island via the Tunnel)
AND Rs (back then the RR) ran between Bay Ridge 95th and Astoria while ALSO running to Essex Street along the Nassau Line (so because there were 2 types of RRs they had to differenciate them so they dont take a RR to Broad St rather than going to Whitehall st)

at DeKalb the reason why it also said Nassau is because the brown m during rush hours terminated at bay parkway to get there it went to broad street and kept going and met up with the r train in tunnel between Whitehall street and court street and the brown m went to DeKalb and the brown m was also Nassau local and that is why it said Nassau at DeKalb but the brown m is gone and is replaced by the orange m

I don't know how old you are but it was perfectly legal to walk between cars using the storm doors. Infact they used to keep them open in the summer when the air conditioning wasn't working.

first i am very sad that u did not know a lot of what was going on the train.. we was there in vintage clothes... but the 2 cars from the museums.. where the one with the old role signs from the movie french connection... the reason everyone was screaming.. was they wanted the R42 we was on to race the other trains.. so everytime a train pulled in when we did.. rail fans went nuts to hoping that a R42 train would Race and R32 C train.. it happened a few times.. but not as they wanted.. the 2 museum cars will return back to the museum.. while all other cars will be scrapped.... which made this run.. its final... those who cars will be the last left.. in all of new york... so if u missed this event.. bummer....

The R42 went to the (A) probably because everything dies out on the (A). The R38, R40S, R44, etc. And the R32 will probably join them in about a month.
