Well in the original story of Goldilocks and the Three Bears is a English fairy tale. From early to mid 19th century England. While Puss in Boots in the real story is a French fairy tale in the Shrek universe he talks in a Spanish accent.
The showed actual red blood, talked about some real heavy subject matter, put out strong messages, they added perfect adult humour and they created one of the most compelling and genuinely menacing “villains” in dreamworks history. This movie and literally EVERYONE involved in its creation deserves awards.
I that's what I'm saying. Sure DreamWorks ain't new to showing blood into movies(el dorado) but they haven't done it in so long and this kind of cinema is so scared to do it, it feels refreshing
It isn’t that Puss isn’t afraid of death by the end. It’s that he IS afraid, but will keep fighting because he values his life and the ones in it. When he realized Puss had changed and recognized his own mortality, he no longer felt he deserved to die.
I personally think Puss fighting for the life he’s been given and facing Death is how he became truly *fearless.* He now respects Death and how much one life truly means. Him accepting his morality and valuing it while also knowing he isn’t invincible is the key he needed to live up to the spirit of his legend, even though he hardly seems to care anymore since he’s been humbled.
You know death is powerful when he can exist and not exist Throughout the movie only puss can see him then in an environment where everyone can die they all can hear the whistle and before the fight against him he walks onto the star through the magic surrounding it. The same magic that instantly disintegrated one of jacks workers. Then disappeared off the star
Best movie in the shrek franchise. And easily one of the best Dreamworks has ever done. I hope they continue to push the envelope like they did here, they’ve don’t such a service to the animation industry.
Honesty yeah. I agree this is prob my fav dreamwork as well. Feel like the humor in shrek is just unmatched and that’s why people love it soo much and I totally get it honesty. I love the message this film and it’s one of my fav films I’ve see in a while
I recognized the voice actor for Papa bear almost immediately. Not that I knew the actor's name. But after tlike three or four lines my brain just went "Hey that's Mister Beaver from narnia"
One of the best animations in a long time. Dreamworks is demolishing Pixar and Disney. Also, Wagner Moura did a great job as the Death's voice, it fit the character very well.
Dude, Encanto didn’t even come out that long ago. Disney and Pixar fail to make a classic for a year and all of a sudden they’re “demolishing” Disney. Up until now they had Boss Baby and Trolls (clearly more corporate decisions) whereas they were allowed to do more with this one. Disney and Pixar has had plenty of classics before, just like Dreamworks has made one now. A better thing to hope for is that new movies push boundaries more, and stop dumbing animation down for children/canceling things cuz higher ups think kids won’t like it.
@@ma.2089 of course Disney and Pixar have a ton of classic animations, but the new stuff looks very, idk, kinda woke, and I hope Dreamworks don't go into that way.
@@sadland ....Velma was not created by either Pixar nor Disney though? And the problem with it certainly isn't its "wokeness". It's just a terrible show made by a terrible person who hates animation.
Great reaction. One of the best movies of the year. Love the characters and the villains So I heard that if you hear a whistle from nowhere that is the grim reaper
Thank you. It was so enjoyable! Every character was great and well done. That's quite worrying I swear after watching it I couldn't stop hearing it randomly throughout my day 😂.
@Basic Vision SAME BUT GUESS WHAT when I left the cinema after the movie, I went to the bathroom, I thought it was empty. Most stalls were open. While I was using the bathroom, I deadass heard someone whistling that tune AND I LEGIT SHAT MYSELF 💀💀💀

How many notice death in the corner of the number cards when they are showing the 8 lives montage? Probably not noticable on a first watch because it's before he shows up.
I don't think that the Death we see in this movie is just Death of the cat world. I do believe he is just Death. He is very clearly trying to frighten Puss, which is made more evident when he finally let's him go because what he said in Spanish at that moment was "Why in the hell did I go and play with my food!" So I think the wolf form is his way of doing that. If you really think about it, the best option for scaring a cat would probably be a large and menacing canine predator. Maybe I'm wrong, it's just my idea of why he looks the way he does. He could just always look like a wolf, which in itself is still really menacing and cool.
@@Ozymandias2x Very true. But like I said in my original comment. I do wonder if he just always looks like a wolf, or if that's specifically just to frighten Puss.
To think this movie almost didn't happen because off puss in boots voice actor having a heart attack yeah he almost died but i guess that just adds to the method voice acting
What I want to know is how the three bears went from being caged when fairytale creatures were being rounded up by the orders of Lord Farquad (in the first Shrek movie) to where they are in this movie.

Maybe Papa bear found another Mama bear for Baby bear, that’s a possibility. Even though Mama bear would be a stepmom to Baby, he’ll still considers her the bear who raised him alongside with his dad.
Remember, this was a sequel to an 11 year old spinoff film from a sequel. With any other studio, it would have been horrible. Disney can't even manage a decent sequel most of the time. Dreamworks does it and gives us one of the best movies of the year (animated or otherwise), the best animated film in like 5 years, and one of the best films they've ever done. I've watched it several times and it's still enjoyable. Even getting through the Avatar sequel once felt like a chore, and I gave up on that horrid CGI Pinnocchio film Disney served up. I hope they are well and truely embarrassed by that one. Don't forget that this was Dreamworks' second film of the year. Bad Guys was really well done too. Not at this level, but still a really well done film. There's another Shrek film coming as well as a fourth Kung Fu Panda film. They set the bar darn high. If they even can get close again we have some really good films to look forward to.
The amount of times I've watched this movie now, I do find it starts to feel a bit slow in the middle, perhaps just because the jokes have been heard, there's no surprises. But no matter how many times I watch it, the opening scenes... the giant feels so epic, the wolf gives me chills with his intro. Those two scenes particularly, are so amazing
